The Aurora Choir is an elegant and powerful choir sample library in VST3/AU format, and represents somewhat of a milestone for Aria Sounds, being the culmination of many hours of work, study and tweaking.
The library contains both Soprano and Alto female singers with 3 modes:
- Legato – playable scripted legato (rather than recorded legato) where the plugin will crossfade pitch bend between two notes to create an organic transition between notes
- Poly – turns on the Polyphonic effect allowing you to play chords with the voices.
- Short syllables – standard latin sounding phrases such as “Di,” “La,” Sol”, Rae”, “Il” etc. that can be combined in a convenient sequencer to create longer phrases. Simplyarrange your phrase in the sequence, and play away – the choir will automatically sing the syllables you enter.
The plugin is fully resizeable – simply click on the 3 dots in the top left corner to change the UI zoom amount from 50% (half size) all the way up to 250%.
Note: This plugin features the same content as the Kontakt library version, but has been converted to plugin format
Note: All Female Vocals
Four Mic Positions (48kHz / 24 Bit)
The choir was recorded in a mid sized hall, for a pristine and clear sound, with four mic positions used to ensure that no part of the vocalists’ glorious sound was wasted. Choose from, or create your own personal blend from the four available positions.
The positions are ordered from closest to furthest, and you even have the option between close condenser mics, and close ribbon mics (for a darker and warmer sound). If an even more reverberant sound is what you are after, there is a reverb slider on the interface, and you’ll also be pleased to know that this library takes external reverb very well.
All of these microphone positions come with identical controls as follows:
- Volume – controls the level of the microphone relative to the rest of the mix
- Pan – set the pan position for a microphone individually
- Send 1 – controls the amount of Effect Send 1 mixed into the microphone position
- Send 2 – controls the amount of Effect Send 2 mixed into the microphone position
Two independent FX slots
With Aurora Choir plugin you get two independent send effects slots where each of the 4 microphones can be routed to. These FX slots has 5 various FX to choose from:
- Reverb – this is a standard analogue reverb with controls for Wet Control, Damping, Stereo Width and Room Size.
- Delay – this is a standard delay effect with controls for Time Left / Right, Feedback Left / Right and mix.
- Chorus – a chorus effect with controls for Rate, Width, Feedback and Time.
- Phaser – a phaser effect with controls for Freq.1, Freq.2, Feedback, Mix, LFO Depth and LFO Speed.
- Convolution – a convolution reverb with 34 Presets covering everything from Arenas to Wooden Rooms to classic Plates.
Presets: The Aurora Choir plugin has a presets page where you can save any preset for instant recall later.
Additional controls:
Aurora Choir plugin comes with standard features such as pan, pitch and volume. The following features are also included:
- Velocity – Keyboard velocity controls the intensity of the vocal sounds via two distinct sampled velocity layers.
- Pitch Bend – the pitch bend wheel lets you bend notes up or down by a set amount. You can set the maximum amount of pitch bend that is applied globally in the Settings panel.
- Modulation Wheel – use this control (CC1) to smoothly increase or decrease the volume of a sustained vocal sound
This version of Aurora Choir is smaller in size compared to the Kontakt version due to the file compression used in the plugin and also the fact that it doesn’t need to use sampled legato, but instead uses scripted legato. This essentially crossfades between two samples pitch shifting one up and the other down to create the legato effect instead, resulting in less RAM usage and less storage required.
