1. Access virus ti tutorial – trance gate

In this latest tutorial i show how to make a gated pad or “Trancegate” using the Virus Ti.

You can use this effect with virtually any combination of waveforms or effects, but for this one i stuck to a classic trance style gated pad.

So i used the Virus’s unique oscillators once again for oscillators 1 and 2, the Hypersaw . A pulse on osc 3, an octave down changed it up a bit. The gated rhythm is all achieved with the arpeggiator. quite easy to set up and a very useful effect. A short sequence repeated over and over at a quick rate, 1/16, is needed to create the sound. all of the other effects are optional. The ones i chose were for the purpose of making the sound wider and fuller. They were, Stereo widener, hyper chorus, classic delay and a reverb. Adding the Arp note length to Soft Knob 1 enables you to change the note length on the fly, useful for live playing or modulation inside your DAW.

2. Access Virus Ti tutorial – Dream pad

In this Tutorial i show how to make a lush and very wide pad using the Virus TI.

I always try to use Basic waveforms when i make pads as they are the purest and give the pad a “Glassy” Feel, For this reason i used a sine wave and a triangle, and also hypersaw for some added harmonics.. any effects that make a pad wider are welcome and with the virus we have many to choose from. The stereo widener is designed exactly for this purpose and the modulation i do on the comb filter with an lfo adds yet more depth.

All in all a gorgeous sound, with the neat touch of added reverb and chorus assigned to the aftertouch, within the matrix section. if your making this sound for yourself try adding other effects to the aftertouch and see what you come up with..

3. Access Virus Tutorial – 1 oscillator lead

In this tutorial i show how to make a rich powerful lead using only 1 oscillator. This patch really showcases the clarity and rich qualities of the Ti’s oscillators.

It is quite a simple patch to make, but the modulation in the matrix and the effects is what makes the sound feel big and wide.. The sound is versatile, and could be used in many different styles of music.

I made a simple trance beat to show 1 example of how it could be used.

4. Access Virus TI – Supersaw Trance Lead Sound Design – How To

This is a tutorial of how to make a Supersaw Trance Lead. I wanted to show off the Hypersaw wavetables, which offer 8 de-tunable saw waves per oscillator. With the 3rd oscillator as another saw this is quite a powerful patch. What gives the sound its warmth is the Analog boost and distortion, while the delay .and reverb make the sound even wider. The sub oscillator and extra unison voices fill out the rest of the sound nicely. A good example of why the Virus Ti is used by many of the top Trance producers today!!

5. Access Virus Ti – Sample and Hold Part 2

In this tutorial i show how to make this sound, which has a “glitchy” Acid Style feel to it.

I used the Arpeggiator underneath the patch to set a quick groove. I chose the WhizzFizz wavetable and Wave 45 as they have quite Metallic high end qualities which work well with the FM modulation.

The Hypersaw for oscillator 1 and the sub oscillator give the sound some body. It is LFO 1 set to Sample and Hold which really makes the sound.

It is set to modulate filter 2, Chorus Delay and FM amount, it is these three that give it the “Acidy” feel. Both the envelopes for the Amp and filter are short and plucky to help the lfo bounce the samples around.

The distortion can be turned up or down to make the sound dirtier.

All in all it is quite a versatile patch, you can use the mod wheel and softknob 1 to modulate the patch while the lfo and Arpeggiator keep the sound rolling

6. Access Virus tutorial – Sub Heavy Deep House Bass

In this tutorial I show how to make a “Sub Heavy” Deep House Bass.

The patch is really deep and low. Most Deep house basses have a high end part and a low end. The high part of this patch is taken up by a grain complex oscillator called Fluxbin.

This was chosen for it’s grit.. The other two classic wave forms were a Square and a sine wave. These are commonly used for basses and are what give it the really deep feel. The main tool for sculpting the sound is the filter envelope. The band pass coming 2nd in the series of filters lets us aim at the sub part of the sound. a litte distortion and some delay in the effects section help the early, higher part of the sound stand out. The patch is completed by the analog boost in the character section, aimed at the sub to make it sound fuller. A nice patch with not to much modulation in the matrix section. you can control the volume of the sub to how you need it by simply turning down the oscillator 3 volume.. In case you would like a more subtle Bass..

7. Access Virus tutorial – “Jubei” Style Sub Bass

In this Tutorial i show how to make “Jubei” Style Sub Bass.

This is following up on a personal request i had. in the tracks of his i listened to they wall all really deep and clean Sub Basses, but in places the opened up using filter modulation to reveal a more gritty brighter sound. This is what i wanted to achieve with this patch.

To get the main body of the sub i used 2 classic wave-forms commonly used for sub basses, a Sine and a Square. There’s no real secret in making a good sub bass. just make sure you are pitched down by 2 octaves and cut off as much from the highs as you can with a low pass filter!!
To get the grit in the sound as it opens up i used another classic waveform wave 39. two types of distortion were used , a light distortion between filter one and two. and onion overdrive in the effects section. because the sound is cut off really low with the filters , you only hear these and the other effects use as the filter opens. I assigned both the filters to open with the mod wheel so you can open and close the sound whilst playing the sound live! These type of evolving Sub basses are growing more popular to the “Dark” drum and Bass producers. you can vary the sound up yourself by changing the wave form used in oscillator 3. as long as you stick to the sine / square combination for oscillators 1 and 2.
