by Discovery

I Love Tibet (Discovery)

A classy collection of Tibetan samples with a specially included movie. The faithful performances of sacred instruments & voices.

In the Tibet Autonomous Region under the occupation of China, extreme human rights violations have continued, and their traditional Buddhist music is also in peril to disappear. Soon after his arrival in India in 1959, Dalai Lama re-organized the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, and their tradition and culture are still maintained by many Tibetan exiles settled in the town.

For recording the genuine Tibetan samples on this library, Discovery visited the refugee settlement under the Tibetan Government-in-Exile located in Dharamsala, Northern India.

I Love Tibet is a sample pack with 644 MB of 16bit/44.1kHz recordings of loops, one-shots, multi samples made using varied cross-section of instruments – indispensable sacred percussion, wind instruments and sutras to the Tibetan Buddhist music – together with some more traditional percussion, string and wind instruments and Tibetan Opera which are familiar to Tibet people. Users will enjoy the instrumental performances included as a special movie as well as the live performance by monks in a temple on the disc.

Tibetan Buddhism stands for Tibetan culture. For the memorial service held in temples, many instruments are used for making God and Buddha pleased with sounds. The instruments to play the Buddhist music are roughly divided into percussion and wind instruments. The percussion is consisted of drums such as “Nga” or “Damaru” and metal percussion like cymbals called “Book Chen” to keep rhythms. The wind instruments include Tibetan flute called “Gyaling”, a huge and loud Tibetan horn called “Dhunchecn”, a Conch horn called “Dhung”, etc. Those sacred instruments are thoroughly represented here, and also the essential emotional voices to admire God & Buddha called “Mantra” and “Chant” in multi-tones recited by a lot of monks are also provided. For multi-sampling files, stringed instruments called “Drayen” and “Yanzin” are available in Kontakt format and Tibetan percussion including cymbals or bells are presented in BATTERY format. More over, the additional special movie (4 min 40 sec.) presents a Tibetan folk song, folk dances, native costumes, and Tibetan people with friendly smiles. “I Love Tibet” features such a classy and mystic music world of Tibet.

Indonesia The Magic (Discovery)

Jakarta, Java, Bali, New Guinea, and Sumatra
The Republic of Indonesia is located in the Malay Archipelago, the world’s largest archipelago, between Indochina and Australia, and between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Under the supervision of master sound producer Makoto Kubota, this special collection captures the musical magic of Java and Bali.

The most well known Indonesian music, Gamelan is an ensemble of instruments indigenous to the islands of Bali or Java (gamelan means orchestra). An ensemble is composed of small bronze metallophones tuned to a four or five – note scale, various gongs, flutes, drums and other percussion. Thanks to Makoto, valuable Sundanese Gamelan having the strong local color is offered in ACID format on the disc. Enjoy the comfortable and powerful samples. Gamelan is supplied both as ensemble and solo on the disc.

Jegog is also a world-famous Indonesian instrument. Jegog plays very low tone, and the ensemble is more powerful than ever before. The music is very fast, loud, rhythmic and precise. On this library, the music is offered as multi-samples so that both solo and ensemble are available.

Set of drums as Tabla is called Gendang in Indonesia. This library supplies a unique Gendang remodeled by the musician. The biggest attraction is the rich sounds and the way of playing created just by his two hands. The disc offers useful rhythm patterns and single shots.

In addition, Kecak known as Indonesian voice percussion is highly dynamic, rhythmically chant. This library offers the casual version Senggak sung by fewer people than Kecak, that was taken over in Sunda Islands.

The natural sounds produced in Hokkaido are rich, warm, and delicate, but they can evoke power and strength when combined. This new library contains the beautiful music and voices of Ms. Umeko Ando, an acclaimed Mukkuri (Jews harp) player among Ainu musicians. 9. Shamisen (Discovery)

by Discovery

Shamisen (Discovery)

This painstaking work faithfully reproduces the shamisen’s unique tones, from delicat reverberations to impassioned, soul-stirring phrases.

There is a historical “period drama” boom among the younger generation, fueled by the film and music industry. One theory holds that the driving forces behind this boom are director Hayao Miyazaki’s most recent works. These animated features feature historical “old Japan” as their setting, and have been record-setting national hits within Japanese audiences. These successful films have granted us a fresh opportunity to see our country in a different light.

The instrument known as the shamisen can be traced back to the biwaand other similar instruments derived from China; there is arguably no sound to which the Japanese ear is more accustomed. The shakuhachi has little intonation, and the koto, while gorgeous, has no lightness. A mere three strings of the Shamisen spun of silken threads express a vast range of human emotion with rich feeling.

16 Bit 44.1Khz

106 Inspiring Shamisen Loops

BPM: 80 – 150

Acidised Wav format

Please Note: This sample pack contains Shamisen Loops only, any other Music and percussion elements heard in the Demo are not included.

10. Koto (Discovery)

by Discovery

Koto (Discovery)

Its 13 strings bring elegant and spiritual sounds that mimic stillness and motion as does the 4 seasons of Japan. You will feel as if it is you who is playing these warm, dynamic tones.

An ancient Japanese musical instrument comes into the spotlight again. The Koto is not only used in traditional music, but also modern day composers have also used the instrument in collaboration with orchestras since the early 1900’s. Koto captures the pure sound of Japan and will flood your ears with various sounds.

Koto was used in old Japanese court music to sooth the body. It has been said that this instrument could purify you mind, body, and soul. There is an opening in the bottom of the Koto which releases the sound that seems to penetrate your body.

The DVD-ROM was recorded with the player facing the Koto using the correct posture and emotional display to achieve the high quality 44.1 kHz/16bit sound. You can hear many basic play techniques such as types of chalking, finger slides, pizzicato, and arpeggios all inside 1023 files.

The Koto sound is as quite as the moon, cherry blossoms, and the surface of water. It has a lightness of flying butterflies and the sputtering of fish, but has the strength of thunder. Its 13 strings bring elegant and spiritual sounds that mimic stillness and motion as does the 4 seasons of Japan. You will feel as if it is you who is playing these warm, dynamic tones.

The overflowing rich sounds of the Koto were by no means for the enjoyment of music. During a time of ruins and decay of ancient times it may have been known as an intellectual sound source. But with the Koto’s inspirational sounds from its creator resonating with mankind will bring harmony into the new age.

17. Hachion Sound – Shamisen (Hachion Sound)

by Hachion Sound

Hachion Sound - Shamisen (Hachion Sound)

“HACHION” is a project that aims to blend traditional Japanese musical instruments such as the koto, shamisen, shinobue, shakuhachi, and taiko with contemporary sounds of today.

The shamisen or samisen (meaning “three strings”), is a plucked three-stringed instrument. Its construction follows a model similar to that of a guitar or a banjo, with a neck and strings stretched across a resonating body. It is is played with a plectrum, called a bachi.

The sound of a shamisen is similar in some respects to that of the American banjo. As in the clawhammer style of American banjo playing, the bachi is often used to strike both string and skin, creating a highly percussive sound.

The lowest string is purposefully laid lower at the nut of the instrument, so that it buzzes, creating a characteristic timbre known as sawari (somewhat reminiscent of the “buzzing” of a sitar, which is called jivan).

The construction of the shamisen varies in shape, depending on the genre in which it is used. This product uses the most traditional and common type called “Tsugaru-Shamisen”

19. 17 String KOTO (Hachion Sound)

by Hachion Sound

17 String KOTO (Hachion Sound)

“HACHION” is a project that aims to create a new sound source by sampling traditional Japanese musical instruments handed down from ancient times such as koto, shamisen, shinobue, shakuhachi, and taiko, mixing that with contemporary music, principally EDM and electro sounds.

Our activities are focused on creating new values, by connecting the Japanese culture and the world music which has an unlimited potential.

The 17-string koto is a traditional Japanese musical instrument, a zither with seventeen strings. It is a variant of the koto, which traditionally has thirteen strings.

The instrument is also known as jushichi-genso, “seventeen-stringed koto” or “bass koto” which has a deeper sound and requires specialized plectra (picks worn attached to the player’s fingers with which the strings are plucked).

The bass koto is similarly made from the Paulownia tomentosa (kiri) wood but the thickness of the wood so taken is approximately twice that of a single koto. They give a much deeper sound.

Short sounds + Loop materials + Processed FX materials

Three patterns are recorded, in order to respond to the different needs.

  • Short sound material (contains the whole scale of the koto)
  • Loop material (contains traditional phrases)
  • FX processing material (contains FX sounds that match with electro beats)

The sounds recorded are played by a professional player, in a high quality recording environment.

The “master” Koto / Shamisen player Asako Mochizuki gives an authentic sound maximizing the charm and grace of the instrument.

Koto is about 180 centimetres (71 in) length, and made from kiri wood (Paulownia wood). They have 13 strings that are usually strung over 13 movable bridges along the width of the instrument.  To play the instrument, the strings are plucked using three finger picks (thumb, index finger, and middle finger). Players can adjust the string pitches by moving the white bridges before playing. The 13 notes are tuned to a non-western pentatonic scale, while it can sound delicate and pretty, by using the plectra it can also sound steely cutting edge.

Inside this original brand new authentic Sample Pack expect to find One shots, Loops and Processed FX Sounds all labelled with key for total flexability.

Three patterns are recorded, in order to respond to the different needs.

24. BIWA (Hachion Sound)

by Hachion Sound

BIWA (Hachion Sound)

“HACHION” is a project that aims to create a new sound source by sampling traditional Japanese musical instruments handed down from ancient times  mixing that with contemporary music.

Our activities are focused on creating new values, by connecting the Japanese culture and the world music which has an unlimited potential.

The biwa is a Japanese short-necked fretted lute, often used in narrative storytelling. The biwa is the chosen instrument of Benten, goddess of music, eloquence, poetry, and education in Japanese Buddhism.

This Biwa is a plucked string instrument and also like the Shamisen,  it is generally played with a plectrum called Bachi. While they both may sound a like, a good way to express the difference of these sound taste would be that if Shamisen was described as an Acoustic Guitar, then the Biwa would have the Classical Guitar sound taste.

Sound source obtained by sampling the actual Japanese musical instrument Biwa, performed by Makiko Morimoto.

  • Short sound material (contains the whole scale of the Biwa)

  • FX processing material (contains FX sounds that match with modern day sounds
