1. Scheps Omni Channel

by: Waves

Scheps Omni Channel

The Channel Strip. Perfected.

Designed with Grammy-winning mixer Andrew Scheps (Adele, Jay Z, Metallica), this flexible channel strip delivers Andrew’s time-tested combinations of compression, EQ, saturation colors and more – all crafted to work together beautifully and cohesively.

Channel strips are the mixing world’s most efficient tools, providing all your basic processing – EQ, compression, gating, and often more – in one modular, easy-to-manage unit.

Mixers choosing which channel strip to work with often face a dilemma, however: Channel strip plugins based on vintage mixing consoles can sound amazing, but tend to tie you down to a very specific and limited sonic color. Modular channel strip plugins let you mix and match diverse processors with flexibility, but the different processors might not work together cohesively and won’t necessarily interact as a true channel strip.

Scheps Omni Channel gives you the best of both worlds. Through years of mixing diverse music genres, Andrew Scheps has perfected certain combinations of go-to processors – some based on classic hardware units, some being innovative modules developed from scratch – each with its own unique character. They are all now provided to you in one flexible yet fully cohesive channel strip plugin.

Scheps Omni Channel features six modules that you can use in any order you like:

  • The Pre module provides three types of analog saturation, letting you add diverse colors of harmonic distortion as well as filters and thump (resonance) controls.
  • The Compression module features 3 completely different compressors ranging from fast to slow and smooth, with a unified control set so you can quickly compare them. A Wet/Dry control allows you to parallel compress within the module.
  • The EQ module is a 4-band equalizer; each band providing a distinct musical sound that holds up on its own or can be switched to fully parametric if surgical EQ is required.
  • The DS2 module is so much more than a de-esser, with two full-range bands and four filter types allowing it to ‘de-anything’ – remove any offending frequencies, not just S’s or T’s.
  • The Gate module gives you all the standard controls (threshold, attack and release) for gating/expansion, but also lets you adjust the maximum noise reduction to maintain a consistent noise floor.
  • If that’s not enough, Scheps Omni Channel features an insert slot that can be positioned anywhere in the chain, where you can insert an additional Waves plugin of your choice, including an extra instance of any of the Scheps Omni Channel modules.

For live sound, Scheps Omni Channel offers zero latency and fullest discrete control over each stereo channel. Select controls of the compressor, EQ and filters are mapped conveniently to the eMotion LV1 live mixing console, serving as the console’s channel strip.

Finally, you get a set of ‘Focus’ presets, created for different sources, which highlight the most important controls you should be focusing on to achieve your current task.

No matter what musical genre you are working with, Scheps Omni Channel will help you stay focused while you mix, quickly audition sonic characters with just a few clicks, customize your signal flow easily in one interface, and be confident that the sounds you fashion ‘sit’ together beautifully and cohesively.

2. Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain

by: Waves

Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain

A modular mastering chain plugin modeled after the EMI TG12410 Transfer Console used in all Abbey Road’s mastering suites since the early ’70s to this day. Use the Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain to create custom processing chains with a flexible flow and the TG magic on the master bus, or on individual tracks/groups in a mixing session.

The distinct solid-state transistor-based sound of the TG12410 has proven itself time and again over many decades. Whether it’s used for mastering as a complete console, or for mixing with only select modules, the TG brings nothing less than magic — the same magic heard on albums like Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, Nirvana’s In Utero, Radiohead’s OK Computer and Ed Sheeran’s “+”. Thanks to this Waves/Abbey Road collaboration, the TG12410 is available outside of Abbey Road Studios and you can now bring the very same magic to your own productions.

Just like the original console, the TG Mastering Chain plugin is made out of modules (or cassettes):

  1. TG12411 Input Module
  2. TG12412 Tone Module (EQ)
  3. TG12413 Compressor/Limiter Module
  4. TG12414 Filter Module
  5. TG12416 V.A.L (Spread) Module (stereo component only) incorporated into the Output Module.

Modules can be interchanged (except for input/output modules) and switched on/off to allow for a flexible processing flow and creating custom chains. Individual modules can be used on different tracks and group buses in a mixing session, as well as on the master bus in mastering sessions.

The compressor/limiter module offers two flavors — Original and Modern — and is coupled with 48 dB/Oct linear-phase sidechain filters to help you take complete control over your sound.

  • Original — aggressive and “dirty” just like the ’70s and exactly how we modeled it.
  • Modern — an original Waves and Abbey Road design based on the TG topology, that will help you get pristine sound with higher levels of perceived loudness.

Alongside the TG Mastering Chain is the Meter Bridge component (separate plugin), offering a new approach to metering. Open one Meter Bridge component on any channel and get access (via drop-down) to all Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain instances in the session. Get a clear reading of VU, PPM, Phase and Peak at a glance, and stay focused on the music.

With different processing modes (Stereo/Duo/MS) and monitoring modes (Stereo/Mono/L/R/M/S), the Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain plugin is truly a powerful tool. Use it in the studio or for live sound with a dedicated Live component.

3. SSL E-Channel

by: Waves

SSL E-Channel

The SSL E-Channel delivers the incomparable sound of the Solid State Logic 4000-series console’s all-discrete design and its Class A, VCA chip. It’s a slice of the world’s greatest hitmaking machine, in your computer.

The equalization section of the SSL E-Channel is based on the renowned Black Knob equalizer, developed in 1983 with legendary producer George Martin. It features a High Pass Filter, Low Pass Filter, and a four-band parametric equalizer.

The dynamics section features a soft-knee compressor / limiter and an expander/gate modeled on the SSL LS611E. Like the original, it can be placed before or after the equalization section, and makeup gain is automatically applied to maintain a steady output level.

4. EMI TG12345 Channel Strip

by: Waves

EMI TG12345 Channel Strip

Waves and Abbey Road Studios bring to life the legendary TG12345, the first-ever solid-state console from EMI which epitomized the sound evolution of the late ’60s and early ’70s and helped shape groundbreaking recordings by the Beatles, Pink Floyd, and many others.

Thanks to meticulous component modeling, the Waves/Abbey Road EMI TG12345 channel strip plugin captures every celebrated feature of the one-of-a-kind original console: the input mic preamp, down to every last detail of its harmonic distortion, hum and noise; the bass and treble EQ bands from the mic cassette; the presence EQ band from the console’s group/main section; the lush-sounding spreader; and to top it all off, the console’s famous compressor/limiter, with its distinctive, irresistible sound.

The plugin offers routing options that cover the entire TG12345 line, from the one and only MK I desk on which it was modeled, to the final MK IV models.

In addition to the console’s original features, new elements have been added to accommodate modern mixing needs, including a high-pass filter on the compressor’s sidechain, a mix control in the dynamics section for easy parallel compression/limiting, a drive control, and much more.

Whether used for tracking, mixing or mastering, in the studio or live, on an individual channel or on a master bus, the Waves/Abbey Road EMI TG12345 will give your mixes the beautiful compression and the unforgettable crisp, bright and rich sound of a true classic.

5. CLA MixHub

by: Waves

CLA MixHub

The first plugin of its kind, CLA MixHub captures the smooth console workflow and rich analog sound of legendary mixer Chris Lord-Alge. Mix up to 64 tracks – all from the same plugin window – using channel strips modeled from CLA’s personal console. Mix musically, within the context of a song, as swiftly and effortlessly as your ideas come.

Plugins normally work on only one channel at a time. CLA MixHub is the first plugin to work in buckets – groupings of up to 8 channels, in up to 8 buckets in total. In other words, you can mix up to 64 channels from one CLA MixHub plugin window. By mixing tracks side by side in the MixHub’s buckets, you’ll gain a mixing perspective that lets you immediately hear how one track’s processing affects others within a song.

The Sound
The channel strips are meticulously modeled from the ground up with the latest technology, directly from Grammy-winning mix legend Chris Lord-Alge’s personal console – the console that Chris has used to mix a huge number of hits, from Green Day, Muse and Sugarland to Keith Urban and many more.

The Workflow
Once CLA MixHub is inserted on the channels in your mix, you can assign your tracks to buckets and begin making adjustments on the fly: mixing dynamics, EQ, saturation and more at a free-flowing pace without needing to switch plugin windows in your DAW.

While mixing, you can flip between two plugin view modes: Bucket View, with control of up to 8 channels at a time, or Channel View, focusing on a single channel’s processing chain.

Each channel consists of 5 sections: input, dynamics, EQ, output, and an insert point. Each processing module can be expanded to reveal additional functionality.

Input Section
The input section handles high- and low-pass filtering and switchable harmonic distortion. The “line” control models the line amp in Chris’s console, adding light saturation. For more extreme drive, kick in the mic pre. This, in effect, is like running a line-level signal through the console’s microphone preamp.

Dynamics
The dynamics section includes two flavors of compression: the console’s built-in compressor, as well as Chris’s favored “Bluey” compressor. Also included: a gate, expander and ducker with a “hold” control and flexible sidechain options for shaping a sound’s envelope – as Chris calls it, it’s a ‘super-gate.’

EQ
The EQ section includes 4 bands of parametric EQ, from wide bells to narrow boost and cuts, loaded with the console’s original ballistics and Q characteristics.

Output
The output section includes a VU meter and plasma-style PPM meter, plus a stereo imaging control and an output fader.

Insert Point
In CLA MixHub’s channel view, the insert point can be used for adding an additional Waves plugin to your MixHub’s chain, making it a one-stop solution for your entire mix.

Chris Lord-Alge on CLA MixHub:
“Mixing in buckets means the world to me. It’s one of the secrets to my success and to my fast-paced, decisive mixing. By creating this plugin, I’m able to give others access to that same quick workflow in a plugin, pushing the envelope of in-the-box mixing to the next, CLA-approved level.”

6. REDD

by: Waves

REDD

London’s Abbey Road Studios were at the epicenter of a seismic shift that rocked the world of music during the 1960s, and changed the course of popular culture forever. The Beatles, The Hollies, Pink Floyd and countless other luminaries made musical history at Abbey Road Studios, trailblazing a revolution that resonates to this day.

And at the heart of it all: The REDD consoles, custom-designed, built by and named for Abbey Road Studios’ in-house Record Engineering Development Department. Renowned for their silky smooth EQ curves, extraordinary warmth and lush stereo imagery, there’s something magical about the REDDs that sound like no other consoles.

Waves meticulously recreated the color, character and tonal complexity of the original desks: The REDD.17 which still belongs to Abbey Road Studios, and the REDD.37 console now owned by Lenny Kravitz. The result is an impressive pair of plugins that deliver the dimension, depth and richness of these console classics.

7. SSL G-Channel

by: Waves

SSL G-Channel

When purchased as a single plugin, SSL G-Channel is available only for Waves v9.91 and later. See the Tech Specs tab below to ensure your system’s compatibility.

The power of the complete Solid State Logic SL 4000 console series is now at your fingertips with the SSL G-Channel, a plugin that consolidates the equalization and dynamic controls of the SSL G-Series consoles into one convenient tool.

The G-Channel EQ module delivers the original hardware’s characteristic pre-boost dip, pre-cut rise, and broad Q for extreme frequency manipulation.

The Dynamics section features soft-knee compression and limiting, a gate/expander, and automatic makeup gain for rock steady output levels. Together, they deliver the one-of-a-kind sound and convenient routing flexibility that have made the SSL G-Series console a control room classic.

8. Kramer HLS Channel

by: Waves

Kramer HLS Channel

Developed in association with legendary producer/engineer Eddie Kramer, the HLS Channel was meticulously modeled on a Helios mixing console just like the one he used in historic sessions at London’s acclaimed Olympic Studios. (In fact, we actually managed to get our hands on the Helios from the Rolling Stones mobile truck, which was used on a slew of classic recordings during the early ‘70s.) In addition to modeling the Helios EQs with their sweet saturation, high-end presence, and fat low-frequency boost, we even modeled the unique behavior, coloration, and drive of the console’s preamps. To top it all off, the HLS Channel features a precision-modeled VU meter that recreates the sensitivity, ballistic behavior, look and feel of the original.

9. eMo D5 Dynamics

by: Waves

eMo D5 Dynamics

5-in-1 Multi-Dynamics with Parallel Detection

The first plugin to use Waves’ groundbreaking Parallel Detection technology, Waves eMo D5 delivers the power of five state-of-the-art dynamics processors—Gate, Leveler, DeEsser, Compressor and Limiter—in one easy-to-use interface.

Maximum Clarity

Thanks to Waves’ Parallel Detection technology, each of the five processors responds to the original signal and to each of the other processed signals simultaneously. This lets you instantly control the total dynamic change introduced by the different processors, ensuring that your final sound achieves maximum clarity without over-compression.

eMo D5 also provides a combined gain reduction meter for the Leveler, Compressor and Limiter, making it even easier to monitor and control your levels.

Maximum Efficiency

eMo D5 is a Swiss army knife for your dynamics. With its single-page GUI, you’ll be able to set up a dynamically balanced mix with maximum efficiency, saving tremendous amounts of time by not having to open and tweak different dynamic plugins.

Use It Anywhere

With its zero latency, low CPU consumption and pure sound quality, eMo D5 is a natural for both live and studio engineers.

10. Renaissance Channel

by: Waves

Renaissance Channel

Renaissance Channel puts the best of Renaissance processing in one place: a complete channel strip combining EQ, compression and gating. The sound behind many modern classics, this is the channel strip of legends.

Renaissance Channel takes the precision of R-EQ, the tightness of R-Comp, the magic of R-Vox, and combines them into one of the user-friendly channel strips available. This feature-rich processor gives you serious control over your tracks and makes it difficult to get them sounding bad.

R-Channel features separate sidechains for the Gate and Compressor, with independent filters and source selectors.

R-Channel also features a double-precision 64-bit floating point internal audio path throughout the processing chain, all the way to the channel’s output. This eliminates the possibility of internal clipping in the EQ or compressor, without loss of resolution.

With an updated interface that is more intuitive than ever, this a “one-stop-shop” channel strip that will continually bring your music to life.
