One thing that is really hard to achieve with a guitar amplifier simulation plug-in or hardware is the interaction in a room between the guitar and an amplifier turned up loud. Enter Acoustic Feedback – because this plug-in does precisely that. Whether you just want single notes to keep hanging a little longer and gently fade to sustained feedback or you want instant and rampant howls for your noise rock, Acoustic Feedback is your friend.

Acoustic Feedback comes bundled with a limited version of the White amp from Vintage Amp Room.

13. MVintageRotary

by MeldaProduction

MVintageRotary

MVintageRotary is a perfect sounding rotary simulation based on the famous Leslie® cabinets. Unlike the original, this one also features more advanced features. Designed for organs, but perfect for keyboards, guitars and many other instruments.

3 Great Algorithms with Advanced Features

MVintageRotary not only sounds like (or maybe better than?) the original, it lets you control stereo width, amount of the dynamics, internal dampening and much more. All of it sounds as natural as possible. And if you are ready, you can get even deaper – synchronize the rotation speeds to the tempo of your song, change rotation direction and more. You can control the slow/fast switch using MIDI sustain pedal and modulation wheel of course, but again, you can do much more than that…

High Quality Amp

Part of the typical organ sound is the analog distortion, which MVintageRotary emulates with pristine accuracy. Well, not only that, you can bring in some more hardcore digital distortion and the available drive levels are of course much higher than in the original, courtesy of digital processing!

14. Toneforge Ben Bruce

by Joey Sturgis Tones

Toneforge Ben Bruce

Ben Bruce, lead guitarist of Asking Alexandria, is well known for his wide variety of guitar tones. By combining select elements from each Asking Alexandria production along with key features from Ben Bruce’s live setup, the brand new Toneforge model nails the entire range heard on Asking Alexandria’s albums.

“I love how versatile it is. Guitarists who use this product will not be limited to any one particular genre. You can go all out heavy and write riff after riff, or you can dial it back and play some tasty blues licks. The clean Channel is superb and is capable of delivering crystal clear, crisp tones or can be dirtied up enough to still sound clean and soft but provide players with the grit and balls reminiscent of early Jimmy Page licks.” – Ben Bruce

Toneforge – Ben Bruce offers rhythm and clean channels, four stomp boxes (overdrive, stereo delay, rotary, and reverb) as well as Joey’s uniquely designed mixing DSP to take your guitar sound from direct input to final mix. It also includes a built-in Impulse Response loader for simulating your own cab / mic setups.

“I was able to take my favourite elements from working with Ben and Asking Alexandria and put them together into this special Toneforge model. Huge rhythm tone, tight overdrive, and great effects for leads and ambient type material!” – Joey Sturgis

16. Metal Amp Room

by Softube

Metal Amp Room

Metal Amp Room was designed to bring you the most brutal, evil and aggressive guitar sound that is possible to squeeze out of your DAW. It may even contain backward messages. Run it in mono for a tight and focused sound, or let it take up your entire stereo width by the use of two panned microphones.

We should probably add it to our end user agreement that by installing Metal Amp Room to your DAW, you agree to having it posessed by a dark and evil force. Plus you may want to consult an exorcist if you should ever wish to uninstall.

Just kidding. Metal Amp Room won’t make your computer screen spin (and you won’t want to uninstall it either), but it was designed with the intent of letting you metal heads get the most fiercely brutal high gain guitar sound possible out of your DAW.

Metal Amp Room was co-developed with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and tailored to his needs. The continuous mic placement from Vintage Amp Room is here as well, but this time with twin mics and adjustable stereo panning. Get a huge stereo sound with complex adjustable phasing effects, a plain old one-mic-right-against-the-cone, or anything in between.

Included is also a fantastic gate, great for palm muting galore. It opens insanely fast – faster than any hardware gate – and its release (how fast it closes after being opened) is program-dependent. This means that fast playing will give you an extremely fast closing gate, while slow playing will yield a slower release.

The cabinets were measured in the In Flames studio (previously known as Studio Fredman) by Tue Madsen (producer of Dark Tranquility, Sick Of It All, Mnemic) and Patrik Jensen. Among the presets, you will find Tue Madsen’s own personal favorites.

Features

  • Raw and authentic metal guitar amp sound
  • Made in collaboration with Patrik Jensen (The Haunted) and producer Tue Madsen. Cabinet simulations made in the In Flames studio.
  • Program-dependent guitar noise gate
  • Two cabs with two mics per cabinet
  • Easy to use balancing stereo mic preamp for balancing the two mics
  • Flexible & continuous click-and-drag mic positioning
  • Fully automatable parameters

About Guilty Pleasure

Toneforge Guilty Pleasure is a unique blend of pedals, amp & cabinets intended to create ripping high-gain guitar tones. The amp and effects work together in a way that’s almost impossible to get a bad sound out of the plugin. Everything in this plugin was designed to work together to forge the ultimate high-gain guitar tone.

Toneforge Guilty Pleasure is also the first in the Toneforge series to offer users multiple guitar cab options each with 4 mic settings, as well as an impulse response loader – allowing you to load your own speaker / mic IRs into an already powerful plugin.

19. Toneforge Jason Richardson

by Joey Sturgis Tones

Toneforge Jason Richardson

Toneforge Jason Richardson is our most metal guitar tone solution. This audio plugin offers three fresh new guitar amp designs, two custom cab captures and three creative pedal-based effects – all derived from the guitar tones created with producer Taylor Larson on Jason’s album “I” and all meeting Jason’s exacting standards.

The Toneforge series, developed by Joey Sturgis, is a series of meticulously crafted virtual guitar (and in other models, even bass rigs) combined with mixing tools designed to take you from direct guitar input to a final-mix guitar tone. In this model, Joey created a custom equalizer optimized for tweaking a variety of guitar playing, and a unique dynamic processor designed to control down-tuned guitar low-end with finesse.

Jason Richardson has made a name for himself and his guitar skills in bands such as All Shall Perish, Born Of Osiris, Chelsea Grin, and now as a solo artist releasing a very well-received solo album in 2016. Now, Joey Sturgis Tones is excited to bring Jason’s tone to the masses with his signature Toneforge model plugin.

The Toneforge Jason Richardson plugin is available for all DAWs in VST, RTAS, AU and AAX formats in both 32 and 64 bit for Windows and Mac machines.

20. MRotary

by MeldaProduction

MRotary

MRotary is the ultimate rotary simulator, which can deliver not only the great vintage sound, but also futuristic algorithmic sound featuring up to 6 speakers at once. You can design your own cabinet using any material from wood to glass, process the rotary signal using fully featured dynamic equalizer and much more.

2 Algorithms with Up to 6 Speakers

MRotary may sound like the real thing, but it can be very surreal as well, or futuristic if you wish. There are 2 algorithms available – first the simulator algorithm based on the Leslie® cabinets, and second the purely mathematical algorithm. You can choose or morph between both. You can even use a different one for each of the speakers and you can have 6 of them in a single cabinet!

Unique Material Based Cabinet Simulator

The cabinet simulator in MRotary doesn’t just give you a few prerecorded models the usual simulators do. Instead it lets you choose properties of the cabinet – its size and material, placement of the microphones and more. You can design a cabinet from wood, steel, even textile. You can even make different parts of the cabine from a different material…

Fully Featured Dynamic Equalizer

MRotary even provides a true dynamic equalizer borrowed from MAutoDynamicEq, so you can not adjust the bass and treble to your liking, but thanks to its dynamic engine you can for example enhance the stereo width by expanding dynamic range of each channel. Sounds tricky? Not at all, just drag a band’s vertical node up…

High Quality Amp

Part of the typical organ sound is the analog distortion, which MRotary emulates with pristine accuracy. Well, not only that, you can bring in some more hardcore digital distortion and the available drive levels are of course much higher than in the original, courtesy of digital processing!

21. Eden WT800

by Softube

Eden WT800

There are a handful of classic names in bass guitar amplification, but few have the combination of pedigree and sheer modern versatility that comes with the Eden WT800. Featuring a full range of tools from compression and 5-band EQ, to easy bi-amping and an ‘enhance’ knob for quick and effective scooping of mid-frequencies, the ‘World Tour’ amp really can do it all, around the globe.

Innumerable pro players, including Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Mike Gordon of Phish, have come to treat this amp as essential. It’s great for the grungey dirty vintage sounds, of course, but for the heft and clarity required by modern hip-hop, R&B, pop, metal, and jazz, there aren’t many that can compete.

Our plug-in is fully endorsed and authenticated by Eden and features physical modelling of two of their best-loved cabinets, a 1×15 and a 4×10, each miked with four different high-end classic microphones, selected and positioned by Troy Antunes, producer and bassist famous for his work with Pharrell Williams and Justin Timberlake.

And with a three-channel mixer section, you can blend the two cabs with the direct signal to find just about anything you could ever want to hear.

With a far more sophisticated EQ than many competitors, a built-in compressor, and a specially designed and optimised ‘enhance’ knob, which boosts the high and low frequencies while cutting the mids for that ultra-modern ‘scooped’ smiley-face sound, the WT800 represents the best-of-the-best, in sound quality and versatility alike.

Features

  • Fully-featured bass amp simulation to cover every need, vintage and modern
  • Faithful modelling of class-leading, top-quality equipment
  • Five-band EQ
  • Make-sound-better ‘enhance’ knob
  • In-built compressor
  • Not one but two cabinet models
  • Easy bi-amping; select your cutoff frequency and send your low and high frequencies to different cabinets
  • Choice of four classic microphones per cabinet, expertly selected and placed
  • Great for rough stuff, but amazing for hyper-rich hi-fi modern tones

23. MCabinet

by MeldaProduction

MCabinet

MCabinet is a revolutionary cabinet simulator mainly for guitars and bass, but can be a great creative sound design tool as well. Instead of thousands of IR files it lets you focus on the sound itself and gets you a virtually infinite number of cabinets!

Great Sound, Simple Controls, Creative Results

A cabinet is an essential part of the guitar sound. Professional guitarists are usually either using physical cabinets, or bought thousands of impulse response files of these cabinets. In either case it is an extremely clumsy hit and miss process.

MCabinet is based on statistical analysis of these real cabinets. It lets you start with a profile of thousands of these IRs and start being creative from there. It provides 4 so-called resonators, which can give your new cabinet a unique tonal or resonant character, and 2 wideners, which provide a natural stereo widening and potentially a little ambience. Finally MCabinet lets you post-process your new cabinet using simple knobs such as flattening or tilt. And there’s a dynamic equalizer as a cherry on top, just in case.

Exporting IR is a Piece of Cake

Just in case you want to use your new cabinet using a HW amp simulator, which allows loading an IR file, MCabinet can do that with a few clicks.

How about some creative sound design?

MCabinet is mainly designed for guitar and bass cabinets, but it can actually work with just about any kind of sound. You can analyze a profile of any set of samples and see where it gets you. Or you can use a flat profile and exploit the resonators and wideners on any audio you want. It’s the creativity that matters these days!

26. Bass Amp Room

by Softube

Bass Amp Room

Bass Amp Room was designed to handle all your bass amp needs, from dirty rock to modern clean. It consists of a model of a bass amplifier, three distinctive speaker cabinets with click-and-drag mics, and a blendable DI section with tone controls and a limiter.

Bass Amp Room has got everything you need to create a unique signature sound in no time. It’s well thought out, and the high quality building blocks will help you produce a huge range of sounds. The Bass Amp Room is all about getting a sound you know you can trust, and getting it quickly.

Although it was originally designed as a guitar amp, the 70’s amp that has been modeled has proven to be an excellent choice for bass players. A thick and solid preamp distortion without any fizziness lets you crank it up without losing the low end. The power amp has a more traditional power amp distortion (controlled by the Master Volume knob), which at extreme settings will give you all the dirt you can handle. The High/Low switch wasn’t a part of the original amp, but was added to give you a cleaner and fatter sound when necessary.

There are three different cabinets in Bass Amp Room. The 8 x 10″ is an industry standard for fat and solid bass tones with lots of low end and lots of definition. The 4 x 12″ may be a good choice for rock sounds with its focused and hard sound. And lastly, while an open back 1 x 12″ may not be the first cabinet choice that springs to mind for bass, this is something that works extremely well in the studio.

Many engineers like to blend in some DI signal from the bass in the mix, and to facilitate this we have added a DI section that does precisely that, and more – we also put in three tone controls and a limiter.

27. Vintage Amp Room

by Softube

Vintage Amp Room

Straightforward and simple, Vintage Amp Room emulates three great and classic guitar amps in a complete studio set-up with speaker cabinets and fully flexible microphone positioning. It’s easy to use for live performances and recordings, as well as for re-amping and last-minute tweaking.

The three guitar amplifiers we simulated in Vintage Amp Room are timeless classics that have deserved their place in the history of guitar based music. So instead of simulating tons of amps, we set out to get these three done right instead.

The amps are simulated in a true studio environment with fully flexible click-and-drag microphone positioning. So not only did we simulate the sound of guitar amps in a nice studio, we simulated the entire workflow.

Vintage Amp Room has none of the added gadgets or weird-sounding presets sometimes found in amp simulation software. It provides you with the ultimate tool to create your own guitar sound. Because after all, only you know exactly what sound you want.

White

Based on an all-round great amp that set the industry standard for classic, distorted rock n’ roll sounds. The genius is its simplicity. It’s stripped down to the bare essentials – all tubes, only one channel, and no reverb or any other built-in effects. Sound-wise, it goes from mad screaming preamp shred, to warm, speakers-about-to-break power amp distortion. Perfect when you need a characteristically distorted edge and a powerful roar.

Brown

One of the most versatile amplifiers in music history. It’s been used in all kinds of genres, and for all kinds of instruments, thanks to a sound that is clean, crisp and clear, but also warm, thick and punchy. Brown can produce anything from the clearest country-style sound for steel guitars to a dirty, bluesy guitar noise. It works for both funky rhythms and bassy, mellow chords. It’s got a notoriously warm sound with a massive bass and a shimmering treble. Versatility embodied, it can do more or less whatever you want it to.

Green

Packed with character and produces a pleasant guitar sound with warm yet intense power amp distortion. Its edginess makes it shine through in mixes, without drowning out other instruments.
Green is based on a very adaptable three-channel amp model. All three channels sound fantastic, but if you want to add a little quirkiness, we especially recommend the vibrato/tremolo one. The original amp has been widely used during the last forty years, from classic pop recordings in the 60’s, through to today’s users, playing mostly independent and alternative rock.

Features

  • Three great-sounding vintage amp models
  • Raw & authentic sound
  • Real studio workflow
  • Flexible & continuous click-and-drag mic positioning
  • Fully automatable parameters
  • 3-D rendered photo-realistic user interface
  • Compatible with all effects that work with real amps
