How it Works

Detect

Scaler 2 can listen to incoming MIDI or audio data and detect the key your music is in. After this, it will suggest chords and chord progressions that will fit with your song. Scaler 2 can send MIDI to a virtual instrument in your DAW, and it has 30 onboard instruments to play with as well.

Chord Sets

Scaler 2 comes with over 200 song and genre-based chord sets and over 200 artist chord sets to inspire new progressions and melodies; plus, choose from hundreds of scales and modes to get your creative juices flowing. Simply drag the chords you want into the sequencer to build a pattern that’s unique to you.

Explore

Explore alternative chords that’ll fit with your progression, with loads of voicings, chord extensions and variations on particular chords to help you choose the perfect feeling with every step of your song.

MIDI Capture

New Audio Detection Technology means you can detect and analyse chords and scales from existing audio sources. With MIDI Capture, you can record Scaler 2’s output – whether you’re clicking keys or chords, or playing progressions – in order to drag the resulting MIDI to outside the plugin.

Keys Lock

Lock keys to your chords to create complex melodies by intuitively moving around on your MIDI controller. Humanize Scaler 2’s performance by introducing variations to velocity and/or timing. Voice Grouping lets you automatically invert notes to restrict playback within certain octaves or by using open voicing.

Edit

Edit Mode lets you dial in Duration, Octave, Inversion and more parameters per chord, and there are new ways to edit chords when right-clicking. DAW Sync links your chord patterns to your DAW’s playback, making it easy to audition new progressions or alter existing chord patterns alongside your DAW project. Pad View makes it easy to construct entire arrangements, moving chords and whole progressions on a higher level.

Modulation

Scaler 2 makes Modulation Suggestions for movement between your current key and a destination. The majority of suggestions have been sourced from professional musicians, and some are generated algorithmically.

Performance

With Performances, Phrases and Rhythms created by real pianists and musicians, Scaler 2 isn’t just about creating chords and arpeggios – it can lay down melodies as well. Over 200 Expressions let you experiment with riffs and melodies, which can be locked to notes of your scale or a chord.

Most DAWs – Chord Prism is recognized as a VST Instrument within your DAW.  It does not produce any sound, but can be set up as a MIDI Output to another instrument within your DAW.  You can then record your selections to the Chord Prism track, which will control the playback of another instrument track.  You can also export the midi from Chord Prism to other instrument tracks. Multiple instances of Chord Prism can be used within a project.

Maschine and Reason – Since these DAWs do not allow for routing MIDI from one track to another, Chord Prism allows you to load an additional VST Instrument within itself. You can scan your VST instruments into Chord Prism’s library or drag and drop individual VST instruments from their folders on your computer to the Chord Prism Library.

Logic Pro – Chord Prism can be used just like native Logic MIDI Effects, where it is placed in front of the instrument in the signal chain.

All were painstakingly recorded by top engineers using the best equipment. You get a wide array of dynamics, articulations, and performance techniques. New instruments in version 6 include the Notion Harpsichord along with the Lakeside Pipe Organ and Olympus Micro Choir sounds from our friends at Soundiron. But that’s just the beginning of Notion’s playback features.

Interactive tools make entry fast and intuitive.

Enter notes with ease using Notion 6’s interactive fretboard, keyboard, and drum pad. It’s the fastest and most convenient way to capture pitches, drum parts, and guitar fingerings. You can even customize the number of guitar strings on the fretboard and the order of entry for each voice for the drum pad. Lyrics can be entered in directly or pasted from any digital source. Want to get your hands on your score? Notion 6’s new Powered by MyScript™ handwriting-recognition feature for Mac, Windows, and iOS lets you write directly into the score, automatically converting your input into digital notation.

Choose chords from a generous chord library and create your own chords. It’s simple to enter the chord name or voicing you want to appear in your score. Choose from standard chord symbols and fretted chord symbols and design custom chord symbols and diagrams. Chords remain on the fretboard for repeated entry, and the software can recall recently used chords. Capture MIDI parts and edit them with your score.

Recording MIDI performances and editing MIDI data is easy in Notion. Viewing MIDI and standard notation together makes the experience unique and intuitive. Choose keyboard, guitar, or drum entry, and dial in exactly how Notion will follow your playing. Enter in real time or in step time, then view your MIDI performance data in Notion’s Sequencer Staff.

Better yet, use the Sequencer Overlay, which allows you to see notation and MIDI performance data on the same staff. Using drag-and-drop, edit each individual note’s velocity, duration, start point, and end point. For precise values, double-click each note and customize the note’s numeric values directly. Notion combines the power of MIDI sequencing with the clarity of standard notation in a unique and powerful way.

If you compose to picture, Notion 6 is your new best friend.

Film, video, and TV composers have specialized needs that just start with a synchronized video window. Notion’s video window includes a timecode view, and you can add hit points and select the volume, frame rate, and start time. Transport buttons let you control your score from the video window with fine frame control. Unlike other scoring software, Notion can handle all of the most important modern video file formats, including MP4, WMV (Windows only), H.264, MPEG, MOV, AVI, M4V, and 4GP on Mac and Windows. And Notion is the only major scoring program that handles video natively on 64-bit Windows.

Don’t just play your music: perform it, too.

Notion lets you play back a score following metronome marks, but you can also perform your scores live, continuously controlling tempo and velocity. Jump in and out of repeats, vamp measures, fade in and out, and navigate live from your computer keyboard or a MIDI controller.

To top it off, Notion 6 comes with the Notion Score Library, a collection of public domain scores in the Notion format.

Powerful Mix Engine by the folks Who Defined Digital Mixing.

PreSonus changed live sound with our StudioLive® digital mixers. We turned the production world on its ears with our Studio One digital audio workstation. While you might not expect advanced mixing capabilities to appear in ordinary notation software, Notion 6 is far from ordinary.

Get truly professional mixes with up to eight stereo buses through the built-in software mixer. Import an audio file to mix with your score or to transcribe from. Process your sounds through eight effects inserts with reverb, guitar-amp simulator, and EQ, compressor, and limiter plug-ins drawn from PreSonus’ Studio One DAW. You can also use your favourite VSTs. Yes, Notion is a professional notation program—but it’s clearly much more!

Serious studio integration.

While Notion exceeds all other notation software with its mix capabilities, you can take compositions to the next level by connecting Notion to a leading DAW through superior real-time audio/MIDI streaming over ReWire. Or create a music production powerhouse by pairing Notion 6 with Studio One 3, where you can now send audio, note, track, VST and score data directly between the applications. The workflow between Notion 6 and Studio One 3 is unprecedented, as both applications can run side by side on the same computer or on any computers on the same network.

Deliver professional scores and polished performances.

While many Notion layout and notation choices are made automatically so you can focus on creating music, sometimes you need to fine-tune your score’s appearance for easy reading and a professional look. Notion 6 provides new layout handles that let you drag notes, measure lines, time signatures, and more, while avoiding accidental respacing. 6. InstaChord

by W.A Production

W.A Production InstaChord

A MIDI Processing Plugin that helps you play chords and chord progressions faster and easier.

The foundation of a great song is based on its harmonic movements and chord changes which often is called chord progression. A change in chord progression can have a drastic effect on the mood or direction of a song. Even those with a background in music theory can experience repetition and stagnation. Using richer chords and new chord progressions can take the song to a new level and make it sound unique and professional.

Whether or not you are an experienced musician or just a beginner, with a vast chord bank and amazing playability, InstaChord has something to offer to you.

  • If you’re a songwriter or a producer It will help you speed up the workflow and song creation process. Find the best progression and use a single midi pattern to play all of them.
  • If you’re a player it allows you to play some of the hardest chords, in any musical key and combination of notes and different voicings, using just a few keys on your controller. Or jam and practice over them without spending much time creating a jam track.
  • If you’re a student or a teacher you can use the plugin to learn and study the chords and use it as a reference and hear them in action.

Find the chords that work well together and build a perfect chord progression for your next song with just a few clicks. You can transpose all the chords to any other key you want using the ‘transpose’ button.

In addition to having access to chords and being able to set a progressions, one of the other great thing about InstaChord is it’s playability.

Features

Chords with different voicing

We have Included almost all the common chords (maj, min, sus2, 6th, 7th, etc) in 5 different voicing (basic, 1st and 2nd inversions, guitar and wide). Each voicing mode has a unique sound due to the order of notes and might be a better choice to fit with the other chords in the song.

Playing chords

There are a lot of ways that you can play the chords. You can Hit or strum the chords with different combination of notes, speeds and directions. For example a key can be assigned to strum top 3 notes of the chord and another one to hit 2 middle notes.

You can also play individual notes of the chord separately. So it’s possible to arpeggiate the chords or strum them manually as well.

Hold mode

This feature allows the fretting hand (chord changer keys) to control the sustain. So as long as the chord key is held down any note you play will ring out, just like a guitar or using a sustain pedal.

Chord Keys

Set up to 24 different chords and switch between them using the chord keys.

Action Keys

Set your own functions for the 24 action keys provided and tell them what you want them to do. Play a full strum, hit first two notes, transpose, etc.

Transpose

Transpose the current chords to any other key you want with just a few click. This is also useful when playing live when the key of the song changes.

Flexibility

Endless possibility of customization for any kind of applications. InstaChord is highly customizable and users can change things to match their needs.

Set your own favorite action key setup out of vast number of action options and lock it so it won’t change when loading a new preset.

The position of the chord and action keys on your controller, each in two separate octaves can be moved up or down placed in a more comfortable position.

Factory Presets

40 carefully designed presets included with the plugin. These presets with professional chord progressions might come in handy starting you’re new song.

7. InstaScale

by W.A Production

TOP RATED

W. A. Production is rolling out another innovative tool to assist you in your song creation adventures. Play your instruments using the brilliant idea of relative notes, rather than the old static approach. Explore the world of scales and expand your creativity in a way that you never have before.

What is it?

Instascale is a newly invented, scale oriented instrument with only 16 keys to play with. But wait, is that enough? Turns out it’s more than enough. Unlike the standard keyboard instruments where each key can only play a single note, Instascale has a set of smart keys, each one capable of playing different notes. The new note will be based on the given scale, last note’s position and the action of the key assigned to it.

Instascale is available as a MIDI processor plugin that can be used in any DAW that supports VST instrument plugins (with MIDI routing) or AU MIDI effect plugins, given you the freedom to play any instrument you choose without any limitations regarding the sound and hardware.

What can I use it for?

  • Learning. With all the scales included in the plugin and various information displayed on the interface, Instascale can be a valuable source to study and learn different scales and modes very quickly.
  • Ear Training. Get familiar with the scales in different keys and modes without having to know how to play them. Train your ear to recognize intervals and distances quickly. Using the home feature you can stay on a certain note and see what feelings it creates compared to the other notes of that scale.
  • Serious playing. Instascale might seem like a strange and unfamiliar instrument at first but don’t be fooled, like any other instrument with enough practice and dedication you can play a kind of mind blowing music that you could have never done with any other instrument out there.
  • Experimenting and getting inspired. Considering that you can never hit a wrong note with Instascale, just play random keys and get inspired by the unpredictable but musically pleasant results. Happy accidents always happen. You don’t even have to use your MIDI keyboard, you can use your drum pad/kit, map the pads to the correct keys and start playing. You’d be surprised how cool it feels and sounds.
  • Breaking the rules. The foundation of the plugin is based on doing things differently, knowing the rules first and then breaking them. So let it inspire you to go even further and find new ways to create music without limiting your mind to the concept of black and white keys and minor and major scales. The plugin guards the rules but lets you change them, bend them or break them. It lets you change the scale, root and home notes on the fly, do crazy runs, it even allows you to create your own experimental scales.

We are sure you will find Instascale fun to use whether it be as an educational tool to learn scales or expand your current knowledge, as an outlet for creativity, as a quick reference, or to be applied to your live set. Just like the creation of music, the possibilities within Instascale are endless and at your fingertips.

How does it work?

Instascale works as a VST instrument and AU MIDI effect plugin. It receives midi data from the controller and swaps it with the processed one. In VST mode the output can be routed to any other instrument in the host application using the available routing functions in that host. The AU version works as a midi effect only in hosts like Logic Pro x that supports the type. There are 16 playing keys that will be used to play the target instrument. What these keys do and where they’re placed on the controller can be customized. They can have static offset values like ‘Home’ or a relative ones like ‘+2’ or ‘-3’. Using this offset value and the previous note, the plug-in calculate the actual note the key plays. you can read more about the playing keys in the manual. In addition to playing keys there are some control keys that can be used to change and control some of the parameters of the plugin like scale and octave directly from the MIDI controller.

Features

  • Relative Playing. Experience the idea of relative notes and new possibilities to play musical instruments.
  • Scales. A list of commonly known and used scales such as Major, Minor, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, Spanish, Arabic, Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Blues, In Sen, Hirajoshi and more.
  • User friendly Interface: There are a lot of elements on the interface such as different readouts, virtual keyboards and graphics which help the user have a better experience and get the most out of the plugin.
  • Edit or Add Scales. Users can edit existing scales or add their own scales (Full version only).
  • Home Note. The home note can be changed from the root to any other note on the scale making it possible to play different modes or accompany chord changes.
  • Playing Keys with lots of options. For each of the 16 playing keys, there are two menus. The mapping menu, and the action menu. First one determines where the key is placed  on the controller, and includes a list of MIDI notes. The second menu determines what the key does and includes some static and some relative options like ‘Home’, ‘Repeat’, ‘+1’, etc. You can read more about the playing keys in the manual.
  • Control Keys. There are several control keys that can be set and used to improve live performance. These keys provide an easy access to control and change the scale, octave, root and home parameters using midi notes on the controller.
  • Root -/+, Scale -/+, Home -/+, Octave -/+. When assigned to a midi note, these keys can be used to change the Key(root), Scale, Home Note and Octave by switching up or down the values.
  • Scale, Root, Home, Octave Switch keys. These assign a series of midi notes to be used to switch between specific values just by hitting a single note. For example by setting Root Switch to ‘C2-B2’, C2 on the controller will set the key to C, C# will set the key to C# and so on.
  • Poly: Multiple notes can be played simultaneously. Same notes can be stacked on top of each other to build chords. For example in C major, Home key plus two stacked +2 key will produce C major chord (C+E+G). The order of notes are important. So even if you’re using MIDI editor in your DAW and placing them at the same point in time or even on top of each other, the first note created will be the first one processed and so the second note’s value is based on the first ones.
  • Octave Shifter: Shifts the output octave up and down. Input octave can also be shifted to a more preferable playing position or to match the host’s labels, using ‘C2’ menu.
  • Pass through mode: By changing the mode to pass through, users can bypass the plugin play the target instrument normally.
  • Map Playing and Control Keys: Instascale allows users to change the default settings and map all the keys to desired midi notes. Different keys can have the same offset value making it possible to set interesting playing modes.
  • User’s manual, online tutorials and support. To get started and learn more about the plugin you can check out the manual and video tutorials. You can always contact us if you had any questions.

9. deCoda

by zplane

deCoda

Decode. Practice. Master. Repeat.

Decode Any Song In Seconds

deCoda can decode any song so you can learn to play it in minutes. In seconds deCoda will tell you the key, tempo, chords where the verses and choruses are and more.

Using deCoda is as simple as adding your favourite song and letting deCoda help you figure it out. Inspired and informed by those working in the music and recording industry, deCoda offers features that make learning a song more effortless than ever.

deCoda has been built by zplane. zplane technology is used to make many of the biggest hits in the world by top artist and producers, and that same know-how is used to power deCoda.

Musical Navigation

deCoda’s knowledge of a song’s beat, tempo and structure let you navigate in musical terms rather than in samples or seconds. Explore the song in parts, bars or beats just with a keyboard hit or touch screen swipe. Automatically have a section loop and expand these loops just as quickly. Concentrate on your instrument, not the navigation.

Chord & Structure Recognition

deCoda decodes your song’s musical data such as beat, tempo, key, chords and song structure. Using AI, deCoda makes educated guesses for each providing a good starting point for your edits. In some cases, you won’t need to make any edits!

Piano-roll With Spectral View

The piano-roll shows the melodic content of your song and lets you pick the notes that you can use for transcription. Results can be played back and exported as MIDI to your DAW or notation software.

Focus

Focus mode lets you highlight the instrument in the stereo mix that you want to hear. And, when you’re done figuring out the part then switch to inverted Focus mode to remove the instrument and practice with the backing track.

Change Tempo, Pitch or Both!

zplane’s elastique Pro is one of the best and the most used time-stretching algorithms in the world. And of course, it’s also inside deCoda. You can slow things down or speed them up and change the key to make it fit your instrument or voice. deCoda also detects the tuning frequency of the song and matches it automatically to your preferred tuning frequency – no manual setup needed.

Metronome

Need a metronome for practice? If you want deCoda can add a metronome, clicking in 4th, 8th or 16th beats – always in sync with your song. It can also add a 1 or 2 bar count-in and even identify a potential upbeat, so you will never miss the first note again.

Internal Library

Everything you drop into deCoda will be kept safe in the internal library. No more hassle figuring out where to save a project or finding the corresponding audio file. Just type the song’s name into the search bar, and in no time you’re where you left off last time.

Sharing

Need to share a project with a bandmate, producer, friend or a student? No problem, just export the project, and all including the audio will be one easily shareable file. Also, you can export the slowed version of the loop you’re working on to put it on any playback device. And just send the notes you’ve figured out to a MIDI file or directly to any notation software of your choice.

Light/Dark Theme

Wherever you’re using deCoda, zplane has the theme to suit. Sitting in a cafe doing your transcriptions, the light theme will give you the necessary contrast. While the dark theme will reduce eye strain when practising in the studio, basement or figuring out a song at night.

10. reMIDI

by SongWish

reMIDI Looping User Interface

MIDI Sampling Is Finally Here

reMIDI (pronounced ‘remedy’) is not another music theory MIDI effect plugin. It’s the very first MIDI sampler. It literally cuts to the core of the problem of finding inspired musical materials by providing harmonies and melodies that are proven to work – enabling you to sample the royalty-free compositions of past greats (Bach, Chopin, Gershwin, etc).

More in the mood for modern? No problem – You can use reMIDI to get the most out of your purchased royalty-free MIDI loops.

If you can sample audio to help kickstart productions, why not sample midi? You can isolate melodies more easily than audio recordings and you can even extract all the chords used! Best of all – you get to choose the instruments.

reMIDI comes with over 1700 royalty-free midi files in the factory library to sample from. But you’re never limited – you can even expand the library by sampling from your own midi!
Connect reMIDI to your favourite virtual instruments and hit the keys/pads on your midi controller to effortlessly find the building blocks for your next track.

You can edit midi notes exactly how you want by dragging out any slice that reMIDI serves up. Make each loop your own. You can even use it to help create a top-selling loop/chord pack.

How Does reMIDI Work?

reMIDI is a plugin instrument capable of outputting MIDI as well as audio. With regard to the latter, a simple sine wave synth sound is built in for scratch work, so you can quickly find a loop for export as a MIDI file entirely within it.

Obviously, though, the idea is to trigger other instruments via reMIDI, and how this is set up depends on the host DAW. For VST hosts (ie, Ableton Live), reMIDI loads as an instrument plugin onto a MIDI track, the output of which is sent to a second track (hosting the target instrument) using the DAW’s routing system.

For Audio Unit hosts (ie, Logic), the included reMIDI_MFX MIDI effect plugin is loaded up instead. This is identical to the regular reMIDI, but sits in front of the target instrument on the same track, outputting MIDI directly to it. It’s certainly the more elegant of the two approaches, although it only captures the raw triggering notes to the track, not the chords output by the plugin.

Features

  • Sample from over 1700 complete compositions with masterfully chosen chords, progressions, and melodies
  • Go beyond robotic arpeggiators by triggering natural midi sequences
  • Easily audition automatically sampled slices of MIDI that loop perfectly at the touch of a key
  • Drag sampled chords and progressions out to your DAW
  • Easily work with MIDI without using a piano roll/note editor
  • Trust the musical wisdom of master composers – they offer timeless hooks, motifs, themes, and variations – all waiting to be discovered by sampling
  • Over 150 composers (Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, Gershwin, etc)
  • 8 different genres (Baroque, Classical, Folk, Hymn, Jazz, March, Renaissance, and Romantic)
  • Save your own sample sets to the preset bank for later use
  • Easily cut the tempo in half or multiply it by any factor while staying in sync with your DAW
  • Assign any VST / AU instrument to reMIDI to control your favourite synths
  • Once you find a loop or a chord progression from a MIDI file you can keep searching the same file or other files for variations
  • Instantly transpose all the notes for endless remixing possibilities
  • No tedious manual slicing. Just set your starting point and slice size and reMIDI chops up the entire file into even parts
  • Use multiple instances of reMIDI to build a complete band of virtual instruments (drums, bass, keys, and leads). With this setup, you can conduct a whole band with one finger!
  • The built-in MIDI file browser makes it a breeze to instantly preview sections of full compositions or MIDI loop packs. Find inspiration in a flash
  • Browse the factory MIDI containing hundreds of high-quality files organized by style and composer

12. Phrasebox

by Venomode

Phrasebox

A Phrase Arpeggiator for Creating Expressive Sequences from MIDI Chords

Turn simple chord sequences into expressive melody lines and musical phrases. Simply design your phrase in the piano roll, and Phrasebox will playback the pattern using whatever notes you input.

You have complete control over how the phrase is played. Select notes in pitch order, or use the special selectors – such as the loudest/quietest or first-played/last-played. Your phrase will be played back with sample-accurate timing.

DAW-Like Control

Phrasebox isn’t like traditional step sequencers or arpeggiators – you have full control over the timing and length of notes as you would in your DAW. Alongside velocity controls, you can also adjust each note’s transposition, and even select a random chance that the note will play.

If your transpositions end up falling between the notes of a scale, you can enable the “Lock To Key” feature to make sure your riffs are always in tune.

Controller Editing

Alongside note patterns, you can also send MIDI controller data. With up to 8 assignable controllers, you can design everything from piano parts using the hold pedal, to automated synth filters and pitch bends to make the perfect melody line.

Generation

If you want quick access to an unlimited number of phrases, you can use the built-in generation tools to quickly get inspiration. Simply set how you want the notes and controller data to be generated, and Phrasebox will create a unique phrase pattern with just the click of a button.

In Detail

Phrasebox is a phrase arpeggiator that gives you control over the playback like never before. With its DAW-like piano roll, you can create expressive, layered melodies that aren’t limited in timing and length compared to traditional step arpeggiators.

The notes of the piano roll correspond to the pitch order of notes, with “special” notes (like the loudest or quietest notes played), which let you control exactly which notes you want to play. It also features a lock to key option so your transposed notes are never out of key, and the included controller window lets you also send MIDI CC data out to your instruments.

Phrasebox also features generation options, so you can generate unlimited unique phrases at the click of a button.

System Requirements

Mac

  • OSX 10.7 or later.
  • VST & Audio Unit
  • 64-bit only

Windows

  • Windows 7/8/10
  • VST
  • 32 & 64-bit

Important Note: Due to MIDI routing limitation, Phrasebox is NOT compatible with Reason, Machine or VST3. Please download the demo version to test whether your DAW is compatible.

13. Liquid Notes For Live

by Re-Compose

Liquid Notes For Live

Liquid Notes for Live is a songwriting assistant tool for editing complex harmonic progressions. It offers a controllable range of alternatives for chords and harmonies in singletrack or multitrack MIDI arrangements and makes the theory of harmony fully accessible to you. A powerful harmonic analysis atomizes even complex multitrack songs and detects their various musical elements and their correlations. Musical adaptation (resynthesis) builds meaningful musical context from various input data (e.g. melodies, bass lines, chords, loops, rhythmic patterns etc.). This information is presented in a simple and clean user interface: Chords appear as rectangular boxes, with a vertical slider and two rotary knobs for changing chord functions, substitutions, and their tensions, respectively.Color codes indicate the conventionality of the chords in the harmonic context. This enables you to build up a MIDI arrangement in Live or to load an existing project, and to utilize the music intelligence of Liquid Notes to arrive at the sound and emotional message you are looking for. From variations of an entire song or just certain segments of it to spicing it up and making it sound different from others, Liquid Notes adds the intelligence to Live that helps you to apply such changes with a click of the mouse only. Any change to your arrangement is made in real time for all tracks, and is immediately audible for the user. Liquid Notes uses the Max for Live standard in Ableton Live 9 to run as a MIDI effect.

Features

The following is a list of features that represent the main capabilities of Liquid Notes for Live:

  • Multitrack control over chord types, functions and tensions.

Friendly Workspace

Orb Composer has been made to allow you to use it easily, the interface is clear, simple and all main functionalities are reachable from here. In one window, you can see the clips, the options and all the main features without going on fastidious submenus.

What you can do in the block area:

  • Different Bar Items
  • Different Bar Items
  • Draw curves
  • Manually create your instrument clips
  • Import Midi Melody
  • Create own Chords
  • Create Chord Progressions
  • BPM
  • 5 Magic buttons
  • Complete clip edition

Different Bar Items

For each music block, pick a bar item, representing the block’s structure with the musical phrases and the bars symmetry. It can be set very easily in order to create complex or simple music structures.

Curves

You can draw curves of “momentum” and “intensity”. For orchestration, you have an additional “Space” parameter. Momentum is related to the horizontal density of notes. Space is related to the number of instruments playing at the same time. Intensity is a complex high-level parameter which depends on each instrument/articulation combination, dynamics, register and polyphony.

As Density increases or decreases the number of notes per bar. Higher density results in more notes per bar. Lower density results in fewer notes per bar.

Time Signature

You can use the following time signatures: 4/4, 3/4, 2/4, 5/4, 6/4, 5/8, 6/8, 7/8, 9/8, 12/8.

Import Melody

For block item, you can import your own melody (MIDI format).

Chord Progressions

Create as many chord progressions as you want or use the chord progressions library, organized in moods.

Clips

Each clip represents a little music segment played by a unique combination instrument/articulation. All the fine-tuning parameters are available per clip, which gives you an infinite amount of tuning.

Other

  • Creation of instrument clips: Create, delete and edit easily your clips.
  • BPM: Pick the BPM you want.
  • Tonality/Mode: Set the tonality you want, with full mode control, including music modes.
  • Sequencer functionalities: An easy-to-use playbar including Play/Play looped, stop.

5 Magic Buttons

17. Liquid Music & Liquid Rhythm Bundle

by WaveDNA

Liquid Music & Liquid Rhythm Bundle

Create Song Ideas Instantly with the Liquid Music & Liquid Rhythm 1.7.0 Bundle

Liquid Music is a powerful software plug-in that helps you instantly produce original song ideas. No more waiting around for inspiration to strike. Simply create inspiring beats, chord progressions and melodies using a unique visual workflow. It’s the quickest way to inspire new ideas and conquer writer’s block. No more piano-roll tedium, no more MIDI noodling—just exhilarating, effortless creation on your terms.

  • Paint melodies, harmonies and chords using the revolutionary Sketch tool.
  • Make unique beats instantly using a collection of rhythmic building blocks.
  • Tweak and evolve song ideas in real-time using five layers of control.
  • Available in VST / AU / AAX / Max for Live plugin formats.

Five layers of Musical Control

Liquid Music separates music into different parts or “layers” that you can tweak and customize to build the perfect track. Each layer offers unique tools for morphing and evolving your music until it’s just right.

Sketch

Sketch is where all the layers come together into one intuitive musical shape. Simply click and drag to create original harmonies, spark new song ideas and draw the shape of your music. Want your music to build? Draw a cresting peak. How about a big EDM drop? Plunge your mouse down and draw a valley. And if you don’t like what you hear, just erase and start crafting your next idea in seconds.

Key

The key of your song impacts more than the notes—it determines what “mood” your track will have. Will it be an upbeat frolic through flower pastures with a major scale? A forlorn dirge in a minor key? Or maybe a trippy experimental journey of exotic tones with Ultralocrian or Phrygian b5 modes? Liquid Music has them all—and more. You can even transpose (move the notes up and down) to better suit your vocalist—no music theory degree required.

Chords

Chords are an important part of every song. But with hundreds to choose from, how do you pick the right ones? Lucky for you, the Liquid Music Chords Layer provides two powerful tools for finding the perfect chords.

Chord Suggester: The WaveDNA team journeyed deep into the land of known progressions and packaged them into the Chord Suggester—a tool that recommends complimentary chord changes and helps you build progressions. It’s an awesome tool…it better be…some of the team never made it out.

Chord Sequencer: Think of this tool like a drum sequencer—except for chords. It’s the easiest and fastest way to create clever chord progressions without hours of frustrating trial and error. Just pick a chord to start, and then choose complimentary chords from the recommended list. Or select chords at random—sometimes the chords you least expect can create the defining sound for your song.

Voices

The more voices you use, the richer and more complicated the melodies and chords will be. Use the Voices Layer panel to add just the right amount of harmony. Even customize how thick the harmonies are at specific parts of the song and create cascading arpeggios. You can also import a melody into Liquid Music and use the Voices Layer to add harmony to it. It’s your music, your choice, and your voice.

Rhythm

Rhythm. You either have it or you don’t, right? Not anymore. Liquid Music’s Rhythm Layer includes a host of tools based on WaveDNA’s acclaimed Liquid Rhythm software—so you can experiment with new beats and add the right groove to your song. Customize your beats with tools for adjusting note duration, velocity, timing effects and more.

You’ll be able to create unique, elaborate beats using note patterns and clusters—entire bars at a time. Browse the extensive list of rhythmic patterns to add rhythm in seconds.

Genetically Modified to Inspire

Liquid Music is based on years of research and development and provides a unique workflow for creating intricate melodies and original song ideas, without requiring any theoretical understanding of music or instruments. WaveDNA’s proprietary technology structures raw MIDI data into musical components and layers that can be reorganized in new ways. The complex algorithms WaveDNA have designed allow Liquid Music to guide, suggest, and generate new combinations that are highly musical and inspiring.
