Real-Time Spectral Transformation

ElectroNylon is based on spectral modelling, a realistic modelling technique that involves scanning real instruments.

ElectroNylon is an electric piano and a nylon guitar, and everything in the middle. A unique instrument made out of the spectral models from a nylon guitar and two electric pianos (reeds and tines based).

Real-time spectral transformation takes harmonics and formants and blends them mathematically. ElectroNylon allows you to do this transformation in real-time with no CPU-usage increase.

Heavily used by The Doors on live shows, Rhodes Piano Bass is an icon of the rock and funk music. We did a recreation based on Spectral Modeling, offering the real sound and feel of the instrument in just 30MB. Carefully crafted.

Detailed recreation of every single mechanical noise and main timbre. No velocity switching since is not sample-based.

THE RHODES BASS PIANO

Late in the 60’s Fender Rhodes released the bass version for his Rhodes Piano. Bass Piano was used on many records and live shows.

Equipped with the same tines and pickups system you can find on a regular Rhodes MK1, the Piano Bass offers a deeper and warmer, with reinforced low frequencies.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SPECTRAL MODELING?

Every sound in nature can be split into simple sinewaves. From thunder to a trumpet. Spectral modeling is the technique to analyze and recreate sinewaves spectra to recreate the exact timbre and behavior of an instrument.

According to Julius O. Smith (Standford) Spectral modeling provides a sound representation much closer to the perception of sound by the brain because your ear and brain are in fact spectral decoders.

MODEL T SOUND

This was one of the most affordable and common eletromechanical piano produced in the late 70’s. Based on reeds, it generates a warm, bell-like but dark tone. It does not includes sustain pedal, due his simple mechanics and easily replaceable pieces. But we included the option to activate the sustain pedal on our modeled recreation.

Also we recreated mechanics sound, very present in every sound. (Controlable individually on our instrument)

AN 80S CLASSIC

Late in the 70’s was launched a simple yet powerful electromechanical piano. Manufactured betwen 1977 and 1982, this classic electr-mechanical piano was one of the simplest EPs in the history. Based on reeds, ands sticky pads, the it offers a “Reed” like sound but with a much more present mechanical noises due the proximity of the mechanics to the keyboard itself. It does not offers a sustain pedal or volume/tone controls. Despite this his tone makes extremely effect-friendly as many of the vintage EPs

WHAT EXACTLY IS SPECTRAL MODELING?

Every sound in nature can be decomposed into simple sine waves. From a bird tweet to a trumpet note. Spectral modeling is the process of analyzing and creating a sound by stacking simple sine waves.

SPECTRAL MODELED ELECTRIC PIANO

We decoded and analyzed a vintage electric piano sinewaves spectrum for every note and every velocity, and recreated it manually. When you play a note on Markus, the exact same sound for the original instrument will be generated (no samples involved)

And we did it manually. Every single harmonic was tuned by ear. Like in acoustic piano tuning, the final touch is always made manually, and no tuning software or algorithm is able to replace that.

DECODING THE ELECTRIC PIANO GENOME

Every sound in nature is a complex spectrum of harmonics. The combination of those harmonics makes every sound unique and easy to be identified by humans. Doing the reverse engineering for finding the harmonics that makes a tine-based electric piano sound like a tine-based electric piano is a complex task. We disassembled tine-based electric piano timbre into the minimal parts a sound can be split. And reassembled into a fully expressive virtual instrument.

WHAT’S NEW ON VERSION 1.5? This is more than an update.

We redesigned the entire harmonic spectrum and behaviors. Bells are more natural, low range is darker and overall velocity responses were improved.

RARE VIRTUAL ELECTRIC PIANO

The recreation of the rare and famous Hohner Eletra Piano T used by Led Zeppelin in “Stairway to Heaven”, “Misty Mountain Hop”, “No Quarter” and “Down by the Seaside”.

BETWEEN RHODES AND WURLITZER

Where it all begins. Hohner created The Electra Piano T in the early 70’s and was followed by other electric piano manufacturers. It uses forks strucked by hammers and electronically converts vibrations transmitted to a transistorised amplifier.

Sound can be described as a half-way between Rhodes and Wurlitzer, but with a vintage dirty touch .

Glassy is an electric piano module inspired by the lovely digital-electric piano sounds from the late ’80s and ’90s. Recreated by spectral modelling and offering 20 studio-quality Digital Pianos in just 35MB.

There’s no ’90s without these sounds. And Sampleson brought them back in a studio-grade virtual instrument, using a different approach.

Most of the Digital Electric Pianos were made upon FM and additive-like synthesis. Sampleson used spectral modelling to recreate a create those unique timbres and to propose some new ones.

We’ve captured everything from a melodica. Even the key noises and air sounds. And we captured articulations from real playing.
