1. Scheps Omni Channel

by: Waves

Scheps Omni Channel

The Channel Strip. Perfected.

Designed with Grammy-winning mixer Andrew Scheps (Adele, Jay Z, Metallica), this flexible channel strip delivers Andrew’s time-tested combinations of compression, EQ, saturation colors and more – all crafted to work together beautifully and cohesively.

Channel strips are the mixing world’s most efficient tools, providing all your basic processing – EQ, compression, gating, and often more – in one modular, easy-to-manage unit.

Mixers choosing which channel strip to work with often face a dilemma, however: Channel strip plugins based on vintage mixing consoles can sound amazing, but tend to tie you down to a very specific and limited sonic color. Modular channel strip plugins let you mix and match diverse processors with flexibility, but the different processors might not work together cohesively and won’t necessarily interact as a true channel strip.

Scheps Omni Channel gives you the best of both worlds. Through years of mixing diverse music genres, Andrew Scheps has perfected certain combinations of go-to processors – some based on classic hardware units, some being innovative modules developed from scratch – each with its own unique character. They are all now provided to you in one flexible yet fully cohesive channel strip plugin.

Scheps Omni Channel features six modules that you can use in any order you like:

  • The Pre module provides three types of analog saturation, letting you add diverse colors of harmonic distortion as well as filters and thump (resonance) controls.
  • The Compression module features 3 completely different compressors ranging from fast to slow and smooth, with a unified control set so you can quickly compare them. A Wet/Dry control allows you to parallel compress within the module.
  • The EQ module is a 4-band equalizer; each band providing a distinct musical sound that holds up on its own or can be switched to fully parametric if surgical EQ is required.
  • The DS2 module is so much more than a de-esser, with two full-range bands and four filter types allowing it to ‘de-anything’ – remove any offending frequencies, not just S’s or T’s.
  • The Gate module gives you all the standard controls (threshold, attack and release) for gating/expansion, but also lets you adjust the maximum noise reduction to maintain a consistent noise floor.
  • If that’s not enough, Scheps Omni Channel features an insert slot that can be positioned anywhere in the chain, where you can insert an additional Waves plugin of your choice, including an extra instance of any of the Scheps Omni Channel modules.

For live sound, Scheps Omni Channel offers zero latency and fullest discrete control over each stereo channel. Select controls of the compressor, EQ and filters are mapped conveniently to the eMotion LV1 live mixing console, serving as the console’s channel strip.

Finally, you get a set of ‘Focus’ presets, created for different sources, which highlight the most important controls you should be focusing on to achieve your current task.

No matter what musical genre you are working with, Scheps Omni Channel will help you stay focused while you mix, quickly audition sonic characters with just a few clicks, customize your signal flow easily in one interface, and be confident that the sounds you fashion ‘sit’ together beautifully and cohesively.

2. CLA Vocals

by: Waves

CLA Vocals

Chris Lord-Alge on CLA Vocals: “The most important part of any song is the vocals. The CLA Vocals plugin makes this part of mixing an absolute joy. I have taken the very best settings which I use in my everyday mixes and crafted them into this chain. It works great on all styles of singers and, best of all, they will want that sound every time! You also get three flavors of the top six effects you need: the right amount of bass, treble, compression, reverb, delay, and chorusing/doubling.”

3. CLA Epic

by: Waves

CLA Epic

Mix with Epic Depth: Complete Reverbs & Delays by Chris Lord-Alge

Add epic depth to your mixes and productions: The complete suite of mix legend CLA’s 4 go-to delays and 4 go-to reverbs, based on his best studio gear – all in one plugin that lets you blend, layer and internally route the effects.

Studio legend Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, Muse, Bruce Springsteen) is a master at creating epic space and dimension in every song. And now he is giving you the key to that depth: his entire suite of reverbs and delays, in one epic plugin.

CLA Epic features Chris’s 4 go-to delays (SLAP, THROW, TAPE, CROWD) and 4 go-to reverbs (PLATE, ROOM, HALL, SPACE). All modules are based on Chris’s settings for his favorite studio hardware, which he uses in various combinations in every one of his mixes.

Whether used on vocals, drums, synths, guitars or other instruments – CLA Epic opens the gate to more depth in your mixes and productions.

Blend Reverbs & Delays the CLA Way

The key to CLA’s depth of sound is the way he blends multiple effects creatively – sending multiple delays to multiple reverbs on each track, and controlling the exact blend with his console faders.

CLA Epic gives you all these rich possibilities in one plugin. You can now blend CLA’s most epic reverbs and delays in the same creative manner. No need to open different effect plugins to get a rich landscape of sound: At any time, you can activate any or all of CLA Epic’s 8 effect modules, and blend them easily using the plugin’s console-type faders.

To make things even easier, CLA Epic always loads with Chris’s default settings for each effect. You can go deep and tweak all the familiar parameters (as well as some surprising ones). But first, simply load the default modules, blend in the different effects, and hear CLA magic in action.

The Secret to Depth: Send Delays to Reverbs

Chris Lord-Alge has an extra secret for mixing with depth: he sends his delays to his reverbs, so that the delays become part of the overall sonic landscape.

CLA Epic lets you send any delay to any reverb, in addition to the option of running the effects in parallel. With the click of a button, you can choose to send each delay only to the Output, only to (any or all of) the reverbs, or to everything at once. Effects routing that would take hours in your DAW now takes seconds.

Over 350 Epic Presets to Get You Started

CLA Epic comes packed with 50 powerful presets by Chris himself – for your vocals, drums, guitars and keyboards. Not enough? The plugin also includes over 300 presets by Greg Wells, Michael Brauer, and dozens more top producers and engineers.

4. Infected Mushroom Pusher

by: Waves

Infected Mushroom Pusher

Created with leading electronic music duo Infected Mushroom, Pusher is an innovative multiband sonic enhancer and limiter/clipper that delivers Infected Mushroom’s “secret mixing sauce.”

Pusher brings together high-end processing and Infected Mushroom’s decades of mixing experience to give you enormous possibilities for boosting frequencies, enhancing sounds, and mastering full tracks for any genre or style. Whether you’re preparing your music for a release or to play out in clubs, you can use Pusher to add grit to your drums, add brightness to your instruments or push your whole mix to the max – all in a matter of seconds. Pusher is also low-latency, so you can freely use it in the studio or live on stage.

Pusher can be used on individual sounds, on busses/groups, or for mastering:

  • Low – Enhance low frequencies and choose where the processing begins based on note or frequency. Perfect for getting kicks and bass instruments to drive through the mix.
  • Body, High – Enhance the mid and high frequencies
  • Magic – Excite and boost the dynamics of all frequencies at once. Good to use on drum groups or full mixes
  • Stereo Image – Widen the stereo image of higher frequencies
  • Push – Push your mix to the max by clipping or limiting. Perfect when mastering.

A Word from Infected Mushroom:
“We wanted to combine our mixing and mastering tricks that we’ve been working on for 20 years into one plugin. Pusher will make almost anything sound better in a matter of seconds”.

5. CLA MixDown

by: Waves

CLA MixDown

Finalize your mixes with the ultimate mix buss plugin from Grammy-winning mixing engineer Chris Lord-Alge (Green Day, Bruce Springsteen, Keith Urban, Muse).

For over 30 years, Chris Lord-Alge has been the mixer of choice for rock royalty, from Aerosmith to U2, Foo Fighters to Muse. One of the secrets to his signature sound have been his unique punchy, smooth, in-your-face mix buss chains – and now they are all yours in the form of the CLA MixDown plugin.

“I perfected my mix buss chains over many years and 20,000 mixes,” says Chris. “I’ve taken my two favorite chains and put them under the hood of this simple-to-use, supercharged champion of a plugin. CLA MixDown features two flavors of my mix buss compression sound, plus console overdrive and a finishing EQ with the perfect bass and treble curves.

“You can use CLA MixDown on your master channel, or you can use it the CLA way – on a master aux. You can add it after you finish mixing to secure your mix with that final touch, but I recommend you insert it before you start mixing, and then mix ‘through’ the plugin, which will help you tailor your mix and get the best sound. Either way, it will dramatically enhance your overall mix and save you precious time toward getting that final mixing touch!”

6. CLA MixHub

by: Waves

CLA MixHub

The first plugin of its kind, CLA MixHub captures the smooth console workflow and rich analog sound of legendary mixer Chris Lord-Alge. Mix up to 64 tracks – all from the same plugin window – using channel strips modeled from CLA’s personal console. Mix musically, within the context of a song, as swiftly and effortlessly as your ideas come.

Plugins normally work on only one channel at a time. CLA MixHub is the first plugin to work in buckets – groupings of up to 8 channels, in up to 8 buckets in total. In other words, you can mix up to 64 channels from one CLA MixHub plugin window. By mixing tracks side by side in the MixHub’s buckets, you’ll gain a mixing perspective that lets you immediately hear how one track’s processing affects others within a song.

The Sound
The channel strips are meticulously modeled from the ground up with the latest technology, directly from Grammy-winning mix legend Chris Lord-Alge’s personal console – the console that Chris has used to mix a huge number of hits, from Green Day, Muse and Sugarland to Keith Urban and many more.

The Workflow
Once CLA MixHub is inserted on the channels in your mix, you can assign your tracks to buckets and begin making adjustments on the fly: mixing dynamics, EQ, saturation and more at a free-flowing pace without needing to switch plugin windows in your DAW.

While mixing, you can flip between two plugin view modes: Bucket View, with control of up to 8 channels at a time, or Channel View, focusing on a single channel’s processing chain.

Each channel consists of 5 sections: input, dynamics, EQ, output, and an insert point. Each processing module can be expanded to reveal additional functionality.

Input Section
The input section handles high- and low-pass filtering and switchable harmonic distortion. The “line” control models the line amp in Chris’s console, adding light saturation. For more extreme drive, kick in the mic pre. This, in effect, is like running a line-level signal through the console’s microphone preamp.

Dynamics
The dynamics section includes two flavors of compression: the console’s built-in compressor, as well as Chris’s favored “Bluey” compressor. Also included: a gate, expander and ducker with a “hold” control and flexible sidechain options for shaping a sound’s envelope – as Chris calls it, it’s a ‘super-gate.’

EQ
The EQ section includes 4 bands of parametric EQ, from wide bells to narrow boost and cuts, loaded with the console’s original ballistics and Q characteristics.

Output
The output section includes a VU meter and plasma-style PPM meter, plus a stereo imaging control and an output fader.

Insert Point
In CLA MixHub’s channel view, the insert point can be used for adding an additional Waves plugin to your MixHub’s chain, making it a one-stop solution for your entire mix.

Chris Lord-Alge on CLA MixHub:
“Mixing in buckets means the world to me. It’s one of the secrets to my success and to my fast-paced, decisive mixing. By creating this plugin, I’m able to give others access to that same quick workflow in a plugin, pushing the envelope of in-the-box mixing to the next, CLA-approved level.”

7. Scheps Parallel Particles

by: Waves

Scheps Parallel Particles

Discover new tone shaping possibilities with the signature sound of Grammy®-winning producer/engineer Andrew Scheps (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Adele, Metallica, Jay Z, Black Sabbath, Lana Del Rey).

“This plugin is about attitude, energy and emotion,” Andrew says. “You can find the sound you want, without having to figure out which of the traditional tools will get you there. It is as much an attitude shaper as a tone shaper, so you can focus on how you want your tracks to feel.”

Scheps Parallel Particles captures Andrew’s masterful know-how and experience in the form of four simple-to-use controls, each of which represents one of Andrew’s go-to mixing processes:

  • Sub is a harmonic generator that creates lows and adds sub frequencies that were never there before. By working more with resonance than EQ, it’s a great way to create a presence in the low end without things getting out of control.
  • Air focuses on those elusive air frequencies and brings them to the forefront. Like Sub, it is a harmonic generator which creates innovative resonances that do not exist in your source. Traditional EQ can sometimes magnify unwanted noise or artifacts; but this control circumvents this issue by synthesizing the top end from existing lower frequency material.
  • Bite is designed to create sonic vitality and emotion. It controls the front ends of the notes (those that reach your ear first), but it also has a big impact on the release. It can be used on anything to make your sound more aggressive. A singer will sound more energetic, a snare drum will have more attack, a bass guitar will sound more present, and so on.
  • Thick adds solid body to the signal, evening out the lower mids and midrange, creating a feeling similar to that of a microphone being a little bit closer, or the room ambience being darker.

Separately, these controls work in very different ways to shape the vitality of the sound. In combination, they can really let you dig in and make huge changes in a subtle way.
