1. StereoSavage

by Plugin Boutique

StereoSavage

Broaden Your Horizons

Achieve the stunning stereo your mix deserves. StereoSavage provides an innovative stereo toolbox, combining tried and tested studio techniques with emulations of modern and classic tools that will bring your mix to life.

Generate stereo from mono with the ‘Vox’, ‘Delay’, ‘Expand’ and ‘Split’ programs. Place sounds precisely in the stereo field with the ‘Width’, ‘Pan’ and ‘Rotation’ adjustment tools. Create movement and chorus-like effects with the ‘LFO’ function, and retain a solid low end with the adjustable ‘Bass Bypass’ tool.

StereoSavage includes all of these features in a single plugin for the first time, offering the flexibility to enhance your track with dramatic effects, or add the perfect subtle finishing touches.

Audio Demos

Most of the examples start with an untreated example showing the original sounds before stereo savage was applied. The only difference between the untreated sounds and the treated sounds is the addition of the StereoSavage plugin.

Benefits:

  • Create stereo from mono sources for richer soundscapes.
  • Control the placement and width of stereo sources. Separate instruments within the stereo field.
  • Use the rotation effect for an incredibly natural sounding pan.
  • Get lush wide vocals in seconds.
  • Quick simple controls for achieving a ‘big sound’.
  • Add motion and excitement with modulation.
  • Retain great mono compatibility with the bass bypass feature.
  • Reduce the number of vocal takes required for rich, tight, backing vocals.

Effects

Generate Stereo from Mono:

  • Vox: Get that classic wide vocal sound: huge leads or rich backing choirs. It’s also brilliant on synths, guitars and has hundreds of other uses.
  • Delay: Use a simple delay on a channel to pan or widen a sound, this is great for percussive parts.  It also has a huge benefit for club mixes where you want to pan some percussion without making either channel quieter!
  • Expand: Add some aggressive early reflections to make sounds stereo and engaging without adding any unwanted movement.
  • Split: Splits the sound up into multiple frequency bands and pans those bands left and right. Compared with the other three modes it is exceptionally natural sounding.

Stereo Adjustment

Stereo Adjustment Features:

  • Width: Make it wider, make it wider than wide…or bring it in so other sounds draw focus.
  • Pre: Move the panning before widening for super-wide auto-panning.
  • Rotation: Super-natural panning.

Add modulation to key controls for movement and excitement. Use the sync to ensure all modulation happens in time with your track. Check out the audio demos to hear this in action.

Bass Bypass

Essential for maintaining a solid low end signal by allowing the bass to be passed through the plugin unprocessed. The gain knob can be used to compensate for differences in level that may arise as a result of the stereo processing.

Metering

Metering Features:

  • Goniometer: Ultra precise goniometer for visual display of the stereo placement of your sound.
  • Phase Correlation: Keep a close eye on this to prevent any potential phasing issues.
  • Input / Output: Use the input and output peaks to help keep things balanced.

2. Little MicroShift

by Soundtoys

Little MicroShift

Big Wide Vocals

Massive Vocal Stereo Width. Classic studio trick with classic studio sound.

Super Wide. Super Easy.

Need some width for your background vocals? Want to make a lead guitar or synth sound larger than life? Little MicroShift gives you three different flavours of a classic stereo widening trick at the push of a button.

Little MicroShift uses a special recipe of pitch shifting and delay that varies over time to create rich stereo width. It’s incredibly simple to use and perfect for spicing up important instruments, or for blending background vocals subtly into a mix.

MicroShift

Make It Wide

The classic studio trick for super-wide vocals – with a powerful new twist.

Need some width for your background vocals? Want to make a lead guitar or synth sound larger than life? MicroShift gives you three different flavours of a classic stereo widening trick at the push of a button. It uses a special recipe of pitch shifting, and delay that varies over time, to create rich stereo width. It’s incredibly simple to use and perfect for spicing up important instruments, or for blending background vocals subtly into a mix.

Hardware Vibe

We designed MicroShift to nail the vibe of sought-after hardware pitch shifters like the Eventide H3000 (which featured algorithms originally designed by Soundtoys’ founders) and the AMS DMX 15-80s. So now you can have the big, wide sound of the original hardware with a simple and refined interface that makes getting those tried-and-true sounds faster and easier than ever.

Expanded Features

While MicroShift is dead simple to use, we also let you precisely adjust the character of the width you’re adding to your tracks. Change the amount of time-varying delay with the Delay control. Adjust the amount of micro pitch shifting with the Detune control. And the Focus control lets you sculpt away low and mid frequencies that might make some tracks sound muddy.

A Little Taste is All You Need

When you buy MicroShift, you also get our original mini version of the effect, Little MicroShift. And it’s anything but little. 4. PanMan

by Soundtoys

PanMan

Rhythmic Auto Panner

Rhythmic auto-panning with cool classic features, new tricks, and analog colour.

Panning. You wouldn’t be alone if you thought of it as nothing more than the simple act of moving sounds from left to right and back again. But it can be so much more. PanMan opens up a Pandora’s Box of panoramic possibilities. Recreate the sounds of classic hardware panning boxes. Trigger panning with the dynamics of a track. Create complex rhythmic patterns and dizzying sweeps. With the full range of Soundtoys modulation tricks at your disposal, PanMan turns the simple act of panning into something incredibly creative and powerful.

Classic Auto Panning

PanMan incorporates features inspired by classic auto-panners. There are classic auto-panners? Yep! And we tracked down these obscure boxes, like the Spanner and PanScan, to study what makes them tick. One thing we just had to run with comes from the PanScan: the trigger divider. This quirky feature lets you set the number of trigger events it takes to move to a new pan position. For example, you can set it to scan from the left to right in three triggers. Trigger the panning by clicking with your mouse, automate the trigger with your host, or even set a threshold to have it respond to incoming audio. You can even filter the audio going to the trigger so it responds to just low, or high, frequency events. And of course, we didn’t stop there: we’ve added 7 different analog modes that add saturation and real analog vibe when you push PanMan hard.

Modern and Musical Tools

Like our other modulation effects, PanMan also offers advanced rhythmic tools that let you create your own signature pan effects. Two different rhythm modes give you tons of possibilities: Step mode lets you chose a new position on each beat and sync it to your host, while the Shape mode lets you choose from a library of custom panning shapes or even draw your own. Open the Tweak panel and you’ll find a bevy of creative options—you’ll be amazed at how versatile PanMan can be.

For panning effects that follow the feel of the music, you can even set the threshold control and trigger PanMan using the dynamics of your track. Move the width, speed and offset controls based on the rhythm of the audio. Create sounds that sweep whenever the snare drum hits. Change the speed of the panning based on the loudness of a vocal. With PanMan, you’ll come up with creative new pan-based effects you didn’t think were possible.

Features

  • Create custom auto panning effects, locked perfectly to your song’s tempo
  • Choose from 6 different panning modes including LFO, step and random
  • Recreates the clever “trigger divider” feature from the vintage PanScan hardware
  • Design your own rhythmic patterns and panning waveshapes
  • Set the threshold to let your music’s dynamics control speed, offset and width
  • Add vintage tone with 7 different analog emulation algorithms

5. StageOne

by Leapwing Audio

StageOne

Enhance the soundstage of your stereo mix, and even bring your mono recordings to life.

Need to open up a stereo mix, individual drums, piano or guitars and making them wider without sounding phasey and keeping mono-compatibility? Or add depth to dry recordings without changing the tone or timbre? Or turn a mono instrument recording into stereo, much bigger than ever before? It’s possible now!

  • Width: Width ‘stretches’ the stereo field, off-center content will move towards and beyond the speakers. Phantom center is left untouched, everything around it gets stretched or remapped to a wider stereo field.
  • Depth: Depth adds directionally optimised reflections to create an enhanced sense of depth in the sound field
  • Mono Spread: Mono spread utilises a unique filter design to convert a mono signal into a pseudo-stereo signal
  • Simple yet Beautiful Design: Beautiful Retina interface with unique design, focused on the optimal workflow

Features

Width

When you have a stereo recording with too dense off-center panned sounds and you just want to spread it out to the side; a newly developed Width control algorithm allows you to remap the stereo field towards and beyond the speakers, while keeping mono compatibility!

Depth

We developed directionally optimised reflection patterns that blend naturally with any type of signal. You can simply move up the Depth slider when you want to add a deeper perspective to your mix. It works well with any source that sounds flat and sticks to the speakers. You have to hear it to believe it.

Mono Spread

The magic behind mono spread is a unique filter design that turns a mono source into pseudo-stereo, so you can take a mono guitar, or even vocal and make them bigger, while keeping perfect mono compatibility.

System Requirements

Mac

  • Mac OSX (10.9 +)

Windows

  • Windows 8, 10 (64-bit only)

Formats

  • AAX-Native
  • VST
  • VST3

6. CenterOne

by Leapwing Audio

CenterOne

Adjust your phantom center signal without changing the panorama or spectral characteristics.

Feel like the vocal is just a tiny bit too loud, but don’t want to change any of the stereo spread. CenterOne allows you to bring the phantom center in a stereo signal forward or backward without changing positions of any panned signals.

  • Phantom Center Manipulation: Bring the phantom center signal in a stereo stream forward or push it back by up to 9dB without changing any of the panorama
  • Extract Left-Center-Right: Convert a stereo signal into an LCR stem in a unique bit-identical way
  • Simple yet Beautiful Design: Beautiful Retina interface with unique design, focused on the optimal workflow
  • Extremely Good Filters: The highest quality audio processing algorithms available

Features

Center Prominence

Feel like the vocal is just a tiny bit too loud, but don’t want to change any of the stereo spread. CenterOne allows you to bring the phantom center of a stereo signal forward or backward without changing any of the panned signals.

Extract Center Channel from A Stereo Source

CenterOne also gives you LCR plugin outputs so you can decide to put an effect on just the center extracted channel. Mixing LCR back together gives you a bit-identical copy of the original signal.

No MS-Technique

CenterOne’s “Center Prominence” algorithm analyses the precise location of the sound sources in the stereo signal for a careful processing of each bit of your audio, respectful of the original location of the sources. The alternative MS-technique that attempts to change the level of the M part of the signal, fails to achieve a good performance due to the inherent drawback of the lateral sources leaking into the M part of the signal split.

System Requirements

  • Mac OSX (10.9 +)

Windows

  • Windows 8, 10 (64-bit only)

7. MStereoProcessor

by MeldaProduction

MStereoProcessor

MStereoProcessor is an advanced multiband stereo analyzer and enhancer plugin. Using MStereoProcessor you can make your recordings and mixes sound more professional by easily controlling stereo image and the necessary perception of depth and space.

It is a necessary tool to finish your recordings. It lets you look at and listen to the stereo field and its mono compatibility, ensuring your recording is truly placed into the center. It can widen, shrink and excite stereo field on 4 separate bands.

Features

Global panorama, widening and exciting – for starters you can modify the panorama and widening of the signal itself. The algorithm is totally transparent and mono compatible. Finally you can apply a broadband exciter to improve the clarity of each band.

  • 4 bands with separate widening and exciting – while it is often desired to have bass stereo field minimal as opposed to treble, MStereoProcessor lets you process all bands separately. You can modify the stereo field from mono to a 200% increase and even perform delayed stereo enhancement. Both algorithms are fully transparent and mono compatible. You can also apply an exciter to improve the clarity of each band. MStereoProcessor provides 3 types of crossover (analog, linear-phase, hybrid), so you can choose the optimal band separation mode for your particular audio material.
  • 2D stereo field analyzer and channel peak meters – integrated analyzers give you an accurate view of the output stereo profile, which you can use to ensure the recording is accurately wide and has correct direction.
  • Mono/stereo field check – you can easily check if your recording is mono compatible and what the stereo content actually is.
  • Mute and solo for each band – you can always listen to each band and check that each spectral part of the recording is perfect.
  • Extremely advanced and easy-to-use user interface – our products are always designed to enhance the workflow. You can easily change all values, fine-tune each control in multiple ways. Easy orientation in a standardized GUI, textual editing and smooth visualization with almost unlimited zooming are standard in all of our plugins. 11. Voxengo PHA-979

by Voxengo

Voxengo PHA-979

… professional focused sound in your mixing session

PHA-979 is a professional audio AU and VST plugin which allows you to apply an arbitrary phase shift to sound material.  What is meant by the phase shift here is simultaneous shifting of all frequencies across the active frequency range of the signal by the given value in degrees.  This is achieved by linear-phase design.

PHA-979 is useful during mixing sessions, especially when working with the sound material recorded through an array of microphones.  In many cases this allows you to solve various phasing problems arising from the microphone placement chosen during the tracking session.  In other cases this process may help you to align drums and other instruments to each other bringing punch and time coherence not attainable by the ordinary time-aligning alone.

Beside the phase shifting, PHA-979 features positive and negative time delaying that eliminates the need to move in-track events in the sequencer when doing time alignment over any set of recorded tracks.  PHA-979 also provides mid/side channel balance and panning controls that permit you to record stereo microphone pairs into a single stereo track without resorting to dual mono recording (on separate tracks) which usually becomes time-consuming in a further editing.

PHA-979 features multi-band analog-style correlation meter that greatly simplifies phase- and time-aligning process.  Moreover, you can use functionality PHA-979 provides to setup headphone monitoring so that it closer resembles sound stage produced by stereo speaker monitoring.

15. Voxengo Spatifier

by Voxengo

Voxengo Spatifier

Spatifier is a “mono to stereo” spatial enhancer AU and VST plugin for professional sound and music production applications.  This plugin can be effectively used to turn mono tracks into spatially-enhanced stereo tracks: it works great for clean and distorted guitars, synth instruments, piano, organ, back vocals and other sounds.  Beside that Spatifier can be used to “densify” the sound of reverb sends, and to add “body” to thin and flat sounds.

Spatifier decorrelates the signal in the left and right channels while retaining the “mono compatibility”.  Such decorrelation creates the “as wide as possible” surround effect.  This effect can be usually used in place of double-tracking technique.  The spatial impression can be adjusted in the range from the “in your face” direct to a distant reverby sound.

Spatifier achieves its result by first designing a complex impulse response that is then used by its internal convolution processor.  The impulse response is defined by means of graphic equalizer-like controls (which can be adjusted in a freehand mode with the right mouse button).  This makes it possible to set the spatial effect for each frequency band individually.  In many practical cases Spatifier adds a great deal of warmness and enriches the timbre of the sound being processed.

Features

  • 16 frequency bands
  • Stereo processing
  • Undo/redo history
  • 6 spatial impressions
  • 64-bit floating point processing
  • All sample rates support
  • Selectable random variations
  • Preset manager
  • Zero processing latency

System Requirements

This audio plugin can be loaded into any audio host application that conforms to the AudioUnit or VST plugin specification.

Loopcloud Music App from Loopmasters.com

RTAS compatibility is available by using the FXpansion VST-RTAS adapter.

This plugin is compatible with Windows (32- and 64-bit Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and later versions) and Mac OS X (10.6 and later versions, 32- and 64-bit, Intel processor-based) computers (2 GHz dual-core or faster processor with at least 2 GB of system RAM required).  A separate binary distribution file is available for each target computer platform for each audio plugin specification.

16. Propane

by SoundSpot

Propane

A Unique Mid-Side Panner for Detailed Stereo Placement

A well balanced stereo image is essential in any mix. With regular panning however, the options for placing a rich stereo track in the stereo field are limited. Propane gives you the option to pan the mid signal separately from the side signal of a stereo track. This way you can position the mono part of your track in the stereo field as you like, and use the side information to shape the width and stereo image of the track.

Besides giving you much more control in comparison to regular panning, this technique can be used very effectively for compensating for a stereo track with an unbalanced or lopsided centre, or for creative automated and tempo synced stereo effects. Also, it is a very natural sounding alternative for panning a bus reverb.

Propane can be used in combination with the SoundSpot MSW1 stereo widener for full control over the placement of your stereo tracks, and has a similar smoothed out bypass function for automation without pops or clicks.

Features

  • Fast and intuitive workflow
  • Simultaneous mid/side and left/right separation
  • Smooth bypass function for easy automation without clicks
  • Extremely light on CPU and RAM

17. MSW2

by SoundSpot

MSW2

Please Note: MSW2 is currently part of our monthly free giveaway bundle. For more information on how to claim your free copy, please click HERE

After the soaring success of our MSW1 single band mono maker and stereo expander, SoundSpot decided it was time to give this hugely popular plugin a new lease of life. With that in mind, they started the development of the MSW2.

The new MSW2 is a complete overhaul in terms of code, interface & creativity, it can be used both subtly for better mixes, or pushed to the extreme to achieve a host of creative possibilities in the stereo field.

Below are the new features of this versatile, lightweight and creative update found in the MSW2!

Features

  • Intuitive, easy to navigate user interface.
  • Designed to work flawlessly with touch controllers such as the Raven by Slate Media.
  • Advanced Fourier Transform Stereo Analysis
  • 2 Band Stereo Enhancement
  • 2 Band Mono Collapse
  • 2 Band Variable Slope Crossover network  (12dB, 24dB, 48dB and 96dB per octave)
  • 2 Band Creative LFO

Stereo Width Display

The stereo width graph shows you the real-time stereo width of your track, over a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz. It uses a short-time fourier transform to continuously analyze and compare the amount of mid and side information in your track, plotting the stereo width independent of your track’s volume.

Because the fourier transform has much less resolution in the low end than in the high end, the graph gets more accurate as you move up along the frequency spectrum, just like other fourier based graphs like the spectrum analyzer of an EQ, or the spectrogram of a restoration plug-in.

Getting a visual representation of how the stereo information in your track is distributed over the frequency spectrum, allows you to identify any frequency ranges or mix elements that need their stereo image adjusted, and gives you more control over your mix as a whole.

Dual Band Stereo Enhancer & Mono Maker

The MSW2 has received a complete overhaul in our stereo enhancer and mono maker algorithm, and now includes 2 independent bands which allow you to alter the stereo information based on frequency crossover.

This allows you greater control of the stereo field, resulting in tighter mixes.

2 Band Variable Slope Crossover Network

The MSW2 features a variable slope control ranging from 12dB to 96dB per octave, that allows you to specify how quickly one band transitions into the other, and can be set by dragging the handles on the main frequency crossover with the crossover graphic changing to reflect you new setting.

As this feature uses a total of 32 filters, it is best to set and forget this parameter, as automation may result in a clicking effect. It was possible for us to smooth the clicks, however, the increase in CPU usage proved too great to warrant including smoothing the crossover network’s slope and frequency in the final product.

2 Band Creative LFO

Whilst developing the MSW2, we found that great effects could be achieved by altering the stereo width over time. With this discovery, we decided that the plugin should feature a synced LFO control, allowing you to achieve these effects without the need to write automation lanes in your DAW.

The LFO itself has 2 bands, one for upper frequencies and one for lower. Once an LFO is activated, an orange arrow is enabled on the Imaging panel, which allows you to set the start position of the LFO.

21. Haas Snapin

by kiloHearts

Haas Snapin

Haas: Stereo Widening

Panning sound is key in mixing and sound placement, but amplitude is only part  of how humans determine the direction of sound. The Haas effect targets another  mechanism that detects small differences in time between left and right to position sound.

Bottom line, it brings stereo width to sounds where there previously was none. Simple as that.

What’s a Snapin?

This plugin is a “snapin”. That means you can use it as a regular VST/AU plugin, or you can use it with our snapin hosts Multipass and Snap Heap where you can combine effects in amazing ways.

System Requirements

These are the minimum recommended system requirements for running snapins.

CPU:

  • 2 GHz or faster

Memory:

  • 1 GB or more

Operating System:

  • Windows (7 or newer) or Mac OS X (10.7 or newer)

Software:

  • A VST / Audio Unit / AAX compatible DAW

Supported formats:

  • AAX
  • AU
  • VST2
  • Snapin

Please note: If you use a lot of snapins at the same time in your patch the CPU usage willincrease accordingly. Thus, we cannot guarantee that the snapins will work flawlessly in all use cases even if your system does meet the minimum recommended system requirements.

Expert surround-to-stereo

Simply using standard downmix coefficients can often lead to unsatisfactory results, particularly if legacy upmix practices were used for the original surround mix. Halo Downmix can quickly mitigate these issues and produce a more coherent stereo mix, for example by controlling excessive diffuse sound from added artificial reverberation, or removing delay artefacts introduced in the rear channels.

Fine-tune existing surround material

Adjust existing 5.1 or 7.1 mixes in surround-to-surround mode. Levels of individual channels, and balance of direct vs. diffuse sound can be adjusted to fine tune or re-balance existing surround audio where access to the original mix is not possible.

Parallel workflows

Halo Downmix can also be used in conjunction with the included Receive plug-in to enable a parallel surround/stereo workflow. This allows for rapid A/B listening checks between the full surround mix and stereo downmix.

Flexible, intuitive interface

Halo Downmix provides a highly creative solution for precise downmixing of 7.1 or 5.1 mixes to stereo. Intuitive, visual controls for relative levels, timing, and direct/ambient sound balance allow unprecedented fine-tuning, delivering accurate downmixes no longer limited by typical in-the-box processes.

Halo Downmix’s highly customisable interface includes both 7.1 & 5.1 modes, and advanced & compact modes, with quick-select ‘in-place’ monitoring of stereo and surround signals, as well as quick linked solo and mute functions at every stage, and clear visualisation of surround energy distribution.
