Videogame Mania is a high-end collection of 64 authentic retro chiptune style Massive presets, created by one of Native Instruments’ own sound designers.

This soundset contains classic SID style arps, authentic videogame sound effects, gritty 8-bit basses and quirky leads which fans of such systems as the NES, Commodore64 and others will instantly recognize.

Also included are entirely original creations that strive to preserve the character of those oldschool, low-fi computer soundchips.

There is more to an authentic quality 8-bit sound than a squarewave on any given synth.

Massive’s functionality allows for the ultra-precise tuning of the finer sonic elements that allow a trained ear to differentiate between the same patch on a common VST synth, and a Commodore64 or NES.

All 8 Macro Controls have been assigned in each patch for maximum versatility and tweakability. As the original version of this set was created years prior, this new and improved version also added additional patches.

PERSONAL NOTES from the developer:

When I made this set, I didn’t want this to just be “Fear And Horror Volume 2”, so I aimed for a colder, more metallic overall sound, which is more fitting for something “post-apocalyptic” – rusted, twisted metal husks that were once buildings, biting cold nuclear winters, constant paranoia, etc. The addition of semi-real musical instruments also reflects what some musical tools fashioned from bits of wire and old gas cans might sound like. Check out the patch “KB Unprepared Piano”. It’s my personal favorite and sounds EXACTLY like a distressed, prepared grand piano!

‘Retro Synths’ contains 66 brand new presets for Cherry Audio’s DCO-106 synthesizer.

‘Neon Nights’ contains 110 retro-inspired presets for U-he Hive.

In our opinion, Hive is THE best synth for getting THAT special hard-hitting, uptempo Synthwave/Outrun sound right out of the box – fully ’80s’ in character, but with a modern coloration added, and without the limitations of vintage hardware.

Also included are 16 new wavetables which several patches make use of. Each patch has, at a minimum, the modwheel assigned for increased expression and playability.

Please note that Hive version 2.0 or higher is required for this soundset.
