The first humbucker was the PAF by Seth Lover (the PAF gets its name from the "patent applied for" sticker which was stuck on its underside), and this was subsequently found on the legendary Gibson guitars, including Les Paul, SG, ES series, but also in the exotics like Flying V or Explorer. For many guitarists it is still the best: not a screamer - it is much too classy for that - ​​but it can sing like no other pickup. Gibson counts the P 490 pickups to the modern classics, which is also a good sound description for these parts known from many current Gibson guitars. The starting point was the legendary PAF (now available as Classic 57); this one got slightly more high mids, so that it becomes even more assertive. Before Gibson developed the legendary PAF humbucker, the P90 Soap Bar single coil was built into most Gibsons as a standard pickup. In the 70s and 80s this classic was overlooked, but in recent years the Soapbar has experienced a renaissance in many guitars. An especially popular combination: mahogany guitar with P90. Nowadays hardly any manufacturers have such a model as part of their product range.

What many guitarists love about the P90 / 94: Open sound and dynamics of a single coil pickup along with the bite and (if desired) distortion of a humbucker. The ideal pickup for Blues-/Crunch-sound. In comparison to the original, the P90 has greater output. A very hot tip for slide guitarists as well! - Black finish!
