Ligature
Next to the instrument, the ligature and the reed have the biggest influence on the sound and response of the instrument.
Each ligature is like a tailor-made suit made to fit the particular proportions of the mouthpiece and guarantee the optimal fit of the reed. A balanced tensile force is exerted onto the reed via the sophisticated mechanisms (left and right threads of the screw), so that it doesn’t move from the desired position. Arrows printed onto the body of the ligature provide guidance for the positioning of the ligature.
