WHAT’S NEW IN MIXCHECKER PRO?

Everything! Even though the interface has the same elegance and ease of use as the original MixChecker.

• New simulations. All characteristics are newly measured, the processing engine is completely different with lower latency and phase linearity. No simple impulse responses inside.

• Create sets of simulations. Drag the selected simulations in any order to the MixChecker button. Save your selection to several button sets together with stereo base width and volume level for each button.

• Custom settings and labels for buttons. The MixChecker buttons have several adjustable parameters. You may even assign the same simulated device to several buttons, each with unique settings. To distinguish between them, there could be a custom label placed to each button.

• Distortion. We are experts in exact modeling of distortions and saturations, either of speakers or of amps, preamps and other circuits. We used this experience and we added modeling of these distortions to MixChecker Pro.

• Background noise. MixChecker adds a possibility to add some audio background with adjustable volume. The combination with simulated devices is quite sophisticated: When you select simulation of phones, the path of the noise through the headphones and ears is simulated, so you hear the realistic combination of the mix playing from headphones and of the nose, coming through headphones from outside.

• Auto Advance. You don’t need to browse through simulations manually. The adjustable auto advance function does it for you.

• Advanced stereo modes. Except of simple Mono mode, MixChecker offers channel swap, listening to each channel separately in both monitors. Furthermore, each simulation has adjustable width of the stereo base.

• Web browser, iOS and Android remote control. MixChecker Pro comes accompanied by web browser, mobile phone or tablet control. You may walk around your studio when checking the final mix, save the valuable screen size.

• And more improvements, like interface zoom, calibration, and so much more.

THE SCIENCE POWERING THE SIMULATIONS

The original MixChecker contains only the simulation of the linear behavior of the devices. We not only added the modeling of non-linear behavior, we have also completely rewritten the original processing to achieve phase linearity, lower latency and better resolution in all parts of the frequency spectrum.

NEW BUTTON SETTINGS

The magic of MixChecker Pro is that it has so many new features while it´s still as easy to use as the original MixChecker. Why? Because it offers the new Edit mode. In Edit mode you can assign any simulated device to any device button, set the distortion amount for that exact device, adjust the stereo base width as well as the volume of the device. The simulated devices are organized in categories, so the searching is super-fast and intuitive. Once you have your button set ready, close the Edit mode and work just as with the original MixChecker.

NEW PRO FUNCTIONS

The default view of the new MixChecker Pro has a small secret socket (options panel) at the bottom of the plugin GUI. Here you can adjust some handful settings for the background noise, setup the mono button and if you are not sure if you have reached the distortion threshold or if you are afraid of any hard-clipping during the work, there are 2 LED indicators to show you.

We’ve spent weeks measuring the frequency responses and behaviour of all the devices in laboratory conditions to create the true models you can rely on. We were precise in definition of all the background sounds which could disturb the listener from hearing the flawless tune. With many more features, MixChecker Pro is the best plugin for double-checking your mixes and making your sound masterly.

Faithful and unique emulation of an old German broadcast compressor/limiter unit U73b. The device was often used for mastering between 1960 and 1980. It is an all tube vary-mu compressor/limiter with adjustable release time option. We kept the circuit exactly as it was originally designed and only added input and output gain (before and right after compressor circuit) to help with proper adjustment of the compression. The plugin effect has been also supplemented with a VU meter and selectable side-chaining. U73b is great for mastering, mixing drums, bass, guitar, vocals and voice overs. Controls The compressor’s controls are very easy, but the effect of this unique device is audible at the same moment you turn it on:

• Compressor/Limiter switch – is the upper U73b knob and it switches between Compressor mode (Kompr), Bypass (Durchschalt) and Limiter mode (Begr). The compressor mode has lower threshold setting and very gentle increasing ratio, in opposite, the limiter mode provides higher threshold setting with higher ratio but still with smooth knee.
• Release time – the first three positions offer fixed release time, the other three positions (marked red) provide adjustable program content dependent release time option.
• IN – adjust input gain before the compressor/limiter circuit
• OUT – adjust output gain after the compressor/limiter circuit.
• Key input – selects the signal source used for controlling the gain reduction
• HPF – U73b is a vintage device and as such it may not meet present mastering demands. We added a bass management button that simply switches between original sound and desired modern sound (without low frequencies bypass).

Valve saturating based on the circuitry of the U73b Compressor. Almost anything is possible in the digital world. With the right skills and technology you can create absolutely anything you like… like the U78 Saturator. So we took the circuitry of the legendary U73b compressor and played around a bit to come up with some seriously satisfying saturation! More than modelling To start with, we removed our award-winning U73b Compressor plug-in’s compression function. Filters were added, together with the tone control, and, finally, a strong gain control completed the U78 Saturator. We kept the heart and soul of the machine to deliver the beautifully musical tube sound. The result is a saturator that sounds like no other. The U78 Saturator is even better than the real thing, being blessed with the things that dreams are musically made of. U78 Saturator Controls

• Gain – adjusts the input gain of the saturation circuit. (The higher the settings, the more rich the sound that can be achieved.)
• HiPass – sets the cutoff frequency of the high-pass filter, which comes before the saturation circuit in the signal path. (The range is from 30 Hz to 800 Hz – turn the knob to minimum to turn off the HiPass filter.)
• LowPass – sets the cutoff frequency of the lowpass filter, which comes before the saturation circuit in the signal path. (The range is from 1 kHz to 8 kHz – turn the knob to maximum to turn off the LowPass filter.)
• Tone – controls the U78 Saturator’s unique tone filter. (Lower settings produce darker sounds with more low frequency content; conversely, higher settings result in brighter, sparkly sounds.)
• Mix – controls the dry and wet signal ratio. (The dry signal is delayed to match the wet signal path latency to prevent phasing issues.)

The original

The RZ062 Equalizers were originally (in the 1960s) designed in Germany for installation in mixing consoles. They were supposed to permit arbitrary modification of frequency response in sound recording and reproduction in order to eliminate undesired studio acoustics, noise, or to produce certain acoustic impression or tonal colouring. Soon they accommodated in top European studios. Now, these 6lbs 300V powered units are extremely rare. Due to their inaccessibility and unmistakable sound, their price climbs over $12.000 per pair. But thanks to our precise circuit modeling technique, these jewels can return to your projects.

Common EQ vs RZ062

Nowadays producers tend to surf through various frequencies and spend hours on trying to find the sweet spot of their mix. But the vintage gear worked differently. The RZ062 EQ‘s controls adjust precisely selected fixed parameters. They are perfectly sonically balanced to give the immediate and no compromise results. In addition, the circuitry adds wonderful colour to the entire material. RZ062a The RZ062a and RZ062b modules differ in the function of the central knob. The a-module middle handle rotates the entire frequency curve by around the central point (650 Hz). When the bass frequencies are raised, the trebles are simultaneously lowered. RZ062b The b-module is even more complicated. Its presence knob lets you choose one of four frequencies (1.4, 2, 2.8 and 4 kHz) and adjust their gain at the same time. This parameter helps your sonic material to cut through very gently and sensitively.

The Model To create these amazing plug-ins we had to emulate more than 200 circuit components. That includes 3 triodes, input and output transformers. It is not just any circuit but someone did a great job focusing on the details. Each part has its own thoughtful meaning. For RZ062 we used so called white box modeling. We described the whole circuit with complex math equations based on the circuit analysis. Eventually, the overall model was fine tuned by measurements and component-values fitting algorithm. to find as the closest model to the real device as possible.

In use RZ062‘s place is everywhere where extra bass, treble or presence is needed while improving the overall colour, smoothness, and tightness of the sonic material. RZ062 is incredible on vocals, bass or acoustic instruments. But due to the advanced controls – the independent left/right channels tweaking or mid/side operation – the main point of the RZ062 EQs is the top quality mastering purpose.
