Italian brothers, Alessandro & Andrea Vinai, are known for their hands-in-the-air Big Room EDM sound. Coming together as a music production duo over a decade ago, they are currently signed to Spinnin’ Records and dominate the Beatport charts. In their careers as DJs they host sell-out club nights and pack in partygoers from all around the globe. Now they finally bring their production talents and distinctive sound to the software realm, with this versatile compression plugin. Over a year in development, this innovative collaboration with W. A. Production brings a piece of VINAI into your own studio.

5-band Compressor: The 5-band compressor passes your audio through low, low-mid, mid, mid-high and high bands, all with adjustable crossovers. Each band has its own tweakable threshold level and make-up gain dial. These settings give an unparalleled level of control to your compressed signal. Intuitively drag the threshold levels and frequency crossover points to shape your sound, all whilst watching the real-time frequency analyser display the results of your adjustments.

Surgical Shaping: Each of the 5 bands has an optional surgical shaping section to control the specifics for that particular band. Solo it, mute it, adjust the RMS, the Attack and Release or tilt the Mid / Side information.

Upward & Downward Compression: With independent controls, upward and downward compression can be dialled in simultaneously – up to 200%. This allows for sound-shaping fixes, such as balancing vocal levels or clamping down on drum transients whilst simultaneously bringing up the level of the room ambience. Using these two types of compression also offers up creative possibilities, emphasising the splashy explosiveness of transients or creating room tone out of thin air.

Time: For a quick and easy way to scale up the attack and release times of all of the 5 different bands, use the Time dial. This applies timing changes across the board, useful for previewing what might happen with the more surgical per-band attack and release settings.

Limiter: No need to use a third party limiter as XTT’s built in Brickwall Limiter adds unique saturation to the signal, without introducing unwanted distortion. It’s transparent behaviour can be dialled in with an adjustable Boost setting, to ensure that your outgoing audio is as punchy and loud as possible without sacrificing the fidelity of the sound.

Linked In & Out Faders: Gain staging is a really important factor in effective plugin processing. With that in mind, the Input and Output faders can be linked, so that you can tame the signal going into XTT whilst simultaneously keeping control of the output volume. The meters allow accurate visualization of the incoming and outgoing signal whilst you finesse your settings. Keeping a close eye on the meters whilst you tweak your compression values makes it easy to preserve the theoretical loudness of the sound.

Bypass & Master Mix: The bypass control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered A/B testing. Choose to mix the compressed signal with your original raw audio via the central Mix ratio control, allowing you to dial down the compression ratio for parallel effects.

Visual Feedback: The real-time frequency display shows exactly what’s happening to the signal as it travels through each stage of the compressor in real time. This allows for accurate monitoring for each of the 5 bands and at every step of the signal chain.

Presets: With many included presets, it’s easy to find the perfect starting point for your own compression adventures. All with distinct uses and expertly-designed settings, these presets can be used on all sorts of different audio to instantly preview a wide range of creative effects. For decades, audio engineers have used a certain processing trick on vocals to help lacklustre mono vocals leap from stereo speakers. Now you can replicate that secret technique with one simple plugin. Vocal Splitter is a handy one-stop unit for turning mono vocals into thick, modern-sounding stereo. When we developed this plugin we went one stage further, including frequency and drive parameters to help your vocal performances stand out from the crowd. Under The Hood

Feel free to skip this part if you like, but here’s what is going on under the hood: Vocal Splitter uses a combination of a phase-offset vibrato effect (that splits the left and right channel by asymmetrically detuning the channels)  and an asymmetrical rectification of the left and right signal (creating a better defined stereo image). Combining these two effects in one plugin is an especially effective way to create a defined stereo split vocal signal with minimal phasing.

Mix

The central mix dial sets the dry / wet ratio of the original source signal and added stereo signal. If you want to listen to the added stereo signal in solo mode or use the plugin on an effects bus, just press the Mute Source button, muting the source signal so that you only hear Vocal Splitter’s processed audio.

Speed & Depth

These dials work together to control the behaviour of the phase-offset vibrato effect that splits the left and right channels. The channels are asymmetrically detuned and these dials adjust that effect so that you can achieve any intensity of processing, from subtle thickening to full-on doubling.

Drive

The drive feature lets you control the intensity of the asymmetrical rectification of the left and right signal, creating a better defined stereo image. If that sounds technical, don’t worry. All you need to know is that pushed hard it provides a saturation-like effect and brings the stereo image back in towards the centre.

Filters

The high pass and low pass filters allow you to filter the added stereo signal, especially important if you want the effect to only apply to a specific frequency range and avoid unwanted phasing in the low end.

Bypass

The Vocal Splitter logo acts as a bypass control for the whole plugin, and is smoothed to be click and pop free for unhindered A/B testing.

SphereComp – A dual mode compressor plugin

W. A. Production has created the perfect way to approach and achieve proper compression. All producers know compression can either be an award-winning tool if used properly, or it can totally destroy your mix. Audio students are introduced to compression and most are left confused or scared to death of it. SphereComp is capable of catering to the seasoned pro and the beginner.

To get the same results you get with SphereComp you would have to spend thousands of dollars in high end rack gear, invest time getting acquainted, making adjustments over and over until you get the result you want. Not to mention installation and routing your patch bay. Breathe a sigh of relief. Don’t dread compression. Embrace it.

What is dual – mode?

Dual mode allows YOU to switch from peak compression (regular mode) to RMS compression (buss mode).

If you route your drum tracks (or any other group of tracks) into a group track, you are able to compress this group as a whole. Tying or “gluing” the individual elements to perform as one. The Buss mode is designed especially for that, It reacts to the RMS (root mean square) or the average of the signal, creating a smooth and musical compression. Regular mode reacts to the peaks of the signal, with it, you are able to dynamically shape the individual tracks. Keep in mind that some individual tracks will benefit much more from RMS compression and some groups or mixes will benefit more from peak compression, so experiment and see what works best for your track

Features

• Input – Control the input gain by +/- 15dB.
• Threshold – Threshold (dB), when the signal level exceeds the threshold the compressor goes into action.
• Ratio – (ratio/1) As an example, a 3:1 ratio means that for every 3dB the input signal exceeds the threshold, only 1dB will be allowed to pass by the compressor.
• Output – Control the output gain by +/- 15dB.

Now that you have your set your levels as a basic start, lets adjust the timing and behavior. When you’re done, you can come back and fine tune everything to make your track seat perfectly in the mix.

• Buss – Switch between Regular mode (peak compression) and Buss mode (RMS compression).
• Attack – Time in milliseconds that it will take for the compressor to reach its destination gain reduction, after the signal has crossed the threshold.
• Release – Time in milliseconds that it will take for the compressor to reach 0 gain reduction after the signal returned below the threshold.
• Auto Gain – Auto Gain matches the output volume to input volume automatically.
• Stereo – Switch between stereo and mono modes.
• Punch – Parallel processing to add punch to the signal before the compression stage.
• Saturate – Add tube style saturation to the compressed signal.
• Clean – Make the compressor sound as clean as possible. If Punch or Saturate are on, it will reduce their effect giving you different timbre options.
• Side Chain – Signal from the right channel input goes to the detector and the signal from the left channel input goes to the compressor.
• Soft Clipping – Use to round the signal when it approaches 0.0dB and ensures it does not exceed it.
• Bypass – Allows you to engage and disengage the compressor.
• Dry/Wet – Mixes between the processed signal and the input signal creating a parallel compression effect, which leaves the peaks untouched while boosting the lower part of the signal.

To help you out there are also 45 presets that focus on individual instruments and drum sounds as well as groups, mix buss and mastering presets.

Syllables That Shine

However hard you try, capturing a perfect vocal is an almost impossible task. Contending with plosives and pops, crackles and clicks, has driven many a producer to distraction.

The first hurdle is getting your dry vocal track as pristine as possible and fixing all those troublesome little audio imperfections. This is way before you can even think about compression or reverb.

Vocal Cleaner puts your vocals through a rinse cycle, subtly taming harsh sibilance and removing intermittent noise. With simple threshold sliders and Amount dials for easy operation, this should be the first plugin in your vocal effects chain, taking the pain out of that initial stage of vocal processing. So load it into your DAW and get ready to really clean up.

De-Noise

Applying an intelligent algorithm to the incoming audio, this process splits the signal into voice and noise and allows you to strip away the background hum, hiss and other extraneous noise. Experiment with the main fader and the Amount dial to reduce the noise to a manageable level without compromising the vocal quality.

De-Ess

Hissing mouth sounds created by “sss” and “shh” sounds are known as sibilance. These can be exaggerated by some microphones and result in a recording that sounds unbalanced and is difficult to listen to comfortably. The De-Es unit within Vocal Cleaner detects these harsh high frequency sounds and creates an intelligent and adaptable EQ curve, reducing the volume of these unwanted artefacts. 

Noise Gate

Setting a minimum threshold of amplitude, the Noise Gate clamps down on quiet sections of audio whilst letting louder parts through. This is ideal for cutting out breath sounds and room noise. Fine-tune the effect with the Amount dial to maintain a natural sound.

Bright, Natural & Dark

The signal algorithms are optimised for audio with different qualities, so you can click the B/N/D buttons to tailor the processing to your individual needs. Choose either Bright, for high frequency noise, dark for noise in the lower register or Natural for a balanced effect.

High / Low Filter & Presence

Using the high and low pass filter helps to roll-off unwanted hum and upper frequencies, balancing the audio in a comfortable centre-ground. The Presence control restores some of the definition with a combination of saturation, compression and EQ. 

Bright, Natural & Dark (B/N/D)

The signal algorithms are optimised for audio with different qualities, so you can click the B/N/D buttons to tailor the processing to your individual needs. Choose either Bright, for high frequency noise, dark for noise in the lower register or Natural for a balanced effect.

Bypass, Output & Master Mix

The bypass control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered A/B testing when combined with the Output dial. Off The Chain

We’re all familiar with the concept of sidechain processing; ducking the amplitude of one audio signal when another is playing. This studio technique is the basis for modern dance music and creates an energetic rhythm that gets hearts beating and feet moving.

Dodge Pro takes this simple concept and pushes it into the stratosphere with not just sidechain ducking functions, but also rhythmic motifs, gated rhythms and special fx. Choose from the many presets or draw your own amplitude shapes using point-and-drag nodes, surgical drawing tools and 3 independent frequency bands. Assign up to 12 scenes via MIDI and tweak to your hearts content, with multiple curve types and note divisions.

Dodge Pro is the flexible and creative tool you’ve been looking for to take control of your sidechain shapes and make volume automation as simple (or as complex) as you want it to be.

Presets

With many included presets, it’s easy to find the perfect starting point for your own volume shaping exploits. There are specific global presets dedicated to sidechain ducking, trance gates, arps and special FX. These are useful and broad settings, ripe for tweaking to your own liking. Each of the 3 EQ bands and the master volume automation have simple one-click solutions to quickly access the most common shapes, providing shortcuts to basic ducking, gating and rhythmic shapes.

MIDI Scenes

Advanced Line Editor

Simply click the automation line to add a node then drag it to define the shape and curve. Quickly copy/paste lines and scenes and select common transformations with the easy access buttons. For an extra layer of programming, each primary automation line has a second layer that can be independently drawn and these are summed together to create more complex shapes for really creative effects.

Independent & Adjustable 3 Band Automation

Whereas most volume shaping plugins process the entire signal, Dodge Pro can split the audio into 3 frequency band ranges and apply different volume shape automation to each band. Simply drag the multicoloured band graphic at the top right of the interface to define the low, mid and high-frequency crossover points. The processed audio can be seen as a waveform in the centre of the interface, either by full frequency or split into the 3 bands. The live ducking is also shown via the mini-meters. Other options for UI feedback include a scaleable interface and left / right monitoring.

Spread It Around

This is chorus on steroids. Taking inspiration from the thick and wet studio processing of the 1980’s, Orchid is your quick-fix way to solve the problem of thin and weedy audio. Fatten up synths, basses, guitars, vocals or drums and add depth, richness and harmonic structure. Whereas most other chorus plugins only double the signal, Orchid quadruples your audio with four-way chorus processing, taking your productions to the next level.

You’ll be familiar with the standard controls for speed and depth but Orchid pushes the envelope for what you should expect from a chorus plugin. Introducing new ways to process feedback with reverb, delay, shimmer, spread and filtering. Some of the changes are applied separately to each of the 4 chorus modules which pushes the sound into phase and comb-filtered territory.

So whether you want to bust out some authentic 80’s synth leads or add a new level of depth to more modern productions, Orchid should be your first choice for chorus processing. Speed, Depth, Feedback & Spread

These familiar parameters are the first steps of your chorus adventure. However, instead of just doubling the signal as most other chorus processors do, Orchid duplicates the audio 4 times for maximum depth and thickness. Set up the Speed and Depth of the processing and then dial in Feedback to determine the amount of signal fed back into the input, changing the character and intensity of the effect. Then use the Spread control to smear the sound across the stereo field for brain-bending imaging.

Shimmer & Space

This special Shimmer effect adds up to two octaves above the original audio, generating harmonics and sparkly top end with a slow phasing effect. Use this for brightening the sound and drawing attention to the upper frequencies.
The Space dial adds a little (or a lot) of reverb to each individual chorus effect, gluing them together simultaneously.

Delay & Filter

Delay the processing by up to 100 milliseconds, useful for carving out a space between the original audio and the chorus signal. The high and low pass Filter dials help to define the processed audio, very handy if you only need some bass grunt or top-end sheen.

Mix, Mute Source, Bypass, Input & Output

Choose to combine the chorus signal with your original raw audio via the central Mix ratio control, allowing you to dial down the chorus ratio for parallel processing effects. Easy Controls

With just a couple of simple controls, Punchy Worm keeps you concentrated on the most important thing about your music… the sound. Simply drag the dials to operate and double click to reset them to default. Trust your ears to tell you what sounds good and let the dancing worm take the strain.

Punch & Saturation

Depending on if you set the main dial to the left or right of centre, you’ll hear punch or saturation, combined with smooth and responsive upward and downward compression. With more subtle settings you’ll hear more presence and power. Pushed harder will result in more brutal transient shaping and saturated harmonics. 

In / Out / Bypass

Use the Input control to drive more signal into that rosy red apple, increasing the amount of the effect and resulting in more aggressive processing (and a more frantic freakout from the bewigged worm). The Output dial can be used to volume match the original signal so you can hear exactly what effect the plugin is having on the audio, without artificially increasing the loudness. Oversampling

The leaf at the top of the interface acts as a toggle, which can be set to x1, x2 or x4 interval oversampling. Careful use of this control will reduce unwanted noise from digital aliasing.

Mix, Target, Gate & Gain

These 4 main dials give you flexible control over the fundamental parameters of Outlaw, meaning that it’s easy to make broad-stroke adjustments to the performance of the plugin. Adjust the intensity of the effect with the MIX dial and set the RMS target level with the TARGET dial. Use the GATE control to set a relative level so that the gain-rider ignores softer sounds. The master output is controlled by the GAIN dial, very useful for setting accurate levels for precise A/B signal comparison.

Advanced Settings

Fine-tune the gain algorithm with advanced settings, accessible from a secondary panel. Outlaw can perform in band-pass mode with high-pass and low-pass filters and 4 different slope settings. For example, this means you can perform effective gain-riding on audio with a low rumble, high-hat bleed or other problematic frequency information.

The Attack and Release options let you mould the transients and sustains of the processed audio to create a smoother signal. The Direction parameter can be set to control the attack and release direction, operating upwards, downwards or in both directions. Maximum values can be set to adjust the intensity of the gain-riding. A variety of RMS options determine how quickly Outlaw reacts to the incoming signal another way to help smooth or sharpen the response.

Visual Feedback

In real terms, what you need to know is that many of these modules are interlinked, with transformations from one module affecting others in weird and wonderful ways. Inspiring, unusual and always musical; the output from Neon Glow will overhaul individual instruments, vocals, or even your entire mix with characterful transformations that bring Arcade’s own bespoke FX chains into your productions.

Lo-Fi: The central Lo-Fi control remixes your sound with new-retro vibes by using an elaborate network of processors and two extra submodules, Redux and Space. In the final mix, the Lo-Fi parameter controls the mix of Redux and Space as well as its own processors.

Redux: Controls a complex series of filters and bit reduction processors which are part of the Lo-Fi module, to add a digital retro sound to the signal. When set at 0, the effect has a minimal impact on the sound, only audible in specific material. Move the control clockwise or counterclockwise to hear the real magic, introducing bit reduction and filtering, both warmer and cooler, depending on which way you turn the dial.

Space: Neon Glow houses a complicated network of chorus effects as part of the Lo-Fi module, and the Space control is where you’ll introduce these transformations for a unique sense of spaciousness. When set at 0, the effect is a retro multi-chorus chain. Twist the dial counterclockwise to add a more traditional multi-chorus effect. Move the control the opposite way to degrade the signal using the micro delays of the module.

Wash: The Wash fader adds a spatial wash effect with spatial elements, using a configuration of filters, stereo expanders, and psychoacoustically widened diffusion generators. Use the Wash Character dial to change the essential attributes of the Wash effect. A whole rack of effect parameters are altered; from the sense of width, to late reflection values on the diffusion generators. Be sure to experiment with these two controls to give your audio the unique character it deserves.

Build: Neon Glow includes a powerful Build fader, crafted to transform your tracks with sonic tension and release. This effect harnesses a combination of strong filtering, diffusion generators, and psychoacoustically enhanced stereo delays, creating an intensifying wave of energy that builds up to a dramatic climax when pushed hard. The Build Character dial sculpts the essence of this effect, allowing fine-tuning. Explore the versatility of this control, from the gentle saturation of specific frequency bands, to the nuances of the introduced spaciousness.

Input, Output, Bypass, Limiter & More: Click the LIMiter button to limit the output of the plugin. Feed more signal into the plugin by adjusting the input level, resulting in more limiting and a more compressed result. Output level can also be adjusted. The Bypass control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered comparison testing. Two versions of your settings can be saved and copied with the A / B options, along with undo and redo controls.

Lift Your Voice

For a vocal to really cut through the mix and ride other instruments, it’s usually a good idea to make sure it’s loud and proud. However, the dynamics of a vocalist’s performance can vary wildly, from softly sung verses to strident choruses. Despite a comprehensive vocal effects chain, with careful volume-riding and compression, you’ll often need a final limiter to clamp down on fluctuating dynamics or to smooth slower phrases.

W.A Production designed Vocal Limiter to be the last step in your vocal processing chain and as simple to use as possible.

It’s specifically developed to target the frequencies of vocal performances so is less affected by overly high or low-frequency content. With multiple speed modes and real-time VU meters, you can use your eyes and ears to find the perfect settings… or just flick through the included presets. With Vocal Limiter you can be sure that your vocals will sit comfortably in the mix and be heard loud and clear.

Threshold

You’ll probably already be familiar with the normal functions of a limiter; set the threshold to clamp down on levels above a certain amplitude. How quickly a signal recovers after this is dictated by the Speed button.

4 Release Speed Modes

Use the central button at the bottom of the interface to toggle the auto-release of the limiter to 4-speed settings. Depending on the performance of your vocalist, each of these settings will give a different effect. Use a slow speed for smoother performances such as ballads and acoustic songs, and fast speed for quicker changes, perfect for vocal chops and raps. Medium speed is suitable for most other kinds of vocal but feel free to experiment and discover the best settings for your particular style. Ultra Slow speed has also been included as a bonus; useful for synth parts and other types of audio that require a more gentle, transparent release setting.

Input & Output

Adjust the Input and Output faders to balance vocals recorded at different volumes and dynamics. These parameters are also useful when used in conjunction with the click and pop-free bypass button, for accurate A/Bing in context.

Visual Feedback

The live VU meters of the interface show exactly what’s happening to your audio signal in real-time. This allows for accurate monitoring at every step of the chain.

It’s easy to adjust the parameters of Vocal Limiter and since this is such a simple plugin, finding the right settings is so fast. Get Low – As a famous vocalist once sang, “It’s all about the bass” and in as far as most genres of music are concerned, she’d be correct!

Bassline balancing has always been a big challenge for producers, especially at the mixing stage, as the dynamic range of low-end material can be huge. If you leave bass lines as they are, then they’ll threaten to unbalance the rest of your mix, but apply compression too liberally and a lively bass sound will have the life sucked out of it. So what to do?

That’s where Fundamental Bass comes in, giving you a quick way to tighten up the dynamics of your low end whilst keeping the snap and sparkle of mids and highs. The processing is achieved with an adjustable frequency split which feeds to two separate modules for processing. The low band features twin-compressors and imaging adjustment for clarity and mono compatibility. The high band compresses and adds grit, enhancing natural harmonics whilst keeping the bounce of the bass. 

With a clutch of useful parameters and a comprehensive range of presets, all you need to worry about is where to set the frequency split for maximum dance floor destruction.

Low & High-Frequency Split

The main concept behind Fundamental Bass is in the way it splits audio into high and low modules for independent processing. This way of mixing bass ensures that the low end is smoothly compressed without losing the excitement of mid and high-frequency dynamics. Green (low) and yellow (high) coloured modules make it easy to see which range you’re adjusting, and each has separate on/off buttons, gain sliders and mix ratio dials.

Low Module

The Balance dial sets a compression level with up to -60dB attenuation. Make-up gain is automatically applied. The Flatten dial is a more aggressive compressor, used for evening out the dynamics of really bouncy bass lines or acoustic material with a wide dynamic range. Experiment with these two compression types to control your bass whilst still maintaining the groove. 

High Module

Use the Balance dial to introduce gentle compression and the Drive dial to add a little (or a lot) of grit to the sound. You get tube-style saturation at low levels and full-on distortion when pushed harder. Careful tweaking of this control can add sparkling top-end to bass lines whilst keeping the low end clean and clear.

High & Low Pass Filters

Manoeuvre your bass line out of the way of your kick with the high pass filter handle – simply drag to determine a lower frequency limit and your kick and bass separation will sound much clearer. You can also ditch troublesome high frequencies that might be conflicting with other instruments. Just use the low pass filter handle to set a limit.

Split-stereo Imaging

An age-old producer trick is to collapse bass lines to mono. This ensures that they will mesh with the kick more effectively and better translate to a wider range of playback systems. Fundamental Bass can perform this trick easily, with independent stereo imaging sliders for the low and high modules. Set the low module to mono and high module to stereo to maintain the lively top end whilst centering any wandering low frequencies.

Mix & Balance

With independent gain controls for both the high and low modules, plus mix ratio dials for parallel processing, you can use Fundamental Bass for either subtle changes or powerfully expressive makeovers. The master clipper smooths out the dynamics of the outgoing audio and the output level slider allows you to set an accurate level for accurate A/Bing with the pop-free bypass control. 

Visual Feedback

The live frequency display towards the top of the interface shows exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real-time. Separate green and yellow meters correlate with the coloured high and low modules so you can visually monitor what’s happening each time you make a parameter change, with precision and accuracy.

With many included factory and artist presets, it’s easy to find the perfect starting point for your own bespoke bass tone. Chord Mode: A broad range of playback options for each chord can be manipulated using straightforward controls. Program each chord segment with inversions ranging from -4 to +4. Transform the chord shapes with the Range parameter, spacing out the notes more widely. Push the lowest notes up an octave or the highest notes down an octave to turn your chords inside out.

Tensions & Extensions: With your chords loaded and a segment chosen, use the range of chord shapes in the centre of the interface to choose between 21 chord types: Tonic, Subdominant or Dominant, from simple triads to more advanced chord shapes. Apply chord Type and Tension with 9 transformation buttons, new to Loop Engine’s Advanced Mode.

Creation Station: Click “Create” to randomly generate one or more chords, on which the note and loop playback is based. Loop Engine offers 30 diverse chord types and tensions to produce harmonic progressions for natural sequences.

Simple Segments: Create up to 8 chord segments, each with up to 8 partitions. Trigger between one and four notes per chord and choose how to play them. Playback is locked to the BPM of your DAW, and you can add/subtract segments and modify parameters individually.

Partition Playback: Split chords into partitions, drawing in the playback of the 4 chord notes to create melodies, arpeggios, shorter chords and loops. With options for Copy / Paste and Repeat, it’s easy to sketch out loop ideas for just one chord and then apply that playback to the others, experimenting as you go. Don’t forget the voicing options, which can send up to 8 loops to 8 different DAW tracks.

Overlap Mode: The POLY button creates patterns that loop indefinitely. These patterns can be longer or shorter than chord segments and loop iterations and will create intertwining arps that reach beyond the normal chord structures. Whenever a portion of a poly pattern enters a new chord segment, the notes of that section will adapt to the new harmonic environment. Go wild and create self-generating melodies with poly mode, multiple voices and all their recombinations.

Export MIDI: To customise your chords and riffs even further, drag and drop chords and arps from the plugin directly into your DAW. Making your original chords ripe for MIDI editing, transposing, and tweaking to fit the sound of your music.

Originally designed for EDM productions, but useful for a variety of genres, this clever workstation will conjure chords of all shapes and sizes with just a couple of clicks. Try out new ideas for your tracks within the intuitive interface and let this plugin take the strain, from suggesting single 4-note chords to producing entire 8-chord riffs.

CHORDS must be assigned to a MIDI track or instrument track on your DAW via MIDI In. For the required routing setup, follow instructions in the manual of your DAW. The innovative software will generate looped options for up to 8 chords with full control over chord shape, inversions, velocity and more. Then just drag the MIDI straight from the plugin to your project, letting your creativity flow freely, guided by the suggestions from CHORDS.

Global or Granular

Use the global controls to adjust inversions, length, speed and root key of the entire playback, making on-the-fly adjustments to your entire riff a simple process. To get into the detail, click a segment for more granular control over chord shapes (including major/minor variations), individual inversions and velocity. 

Simple Segments

With up to 8 segments, each containing a different chord type, you can choose to trigger between one and four notes per chord. The playback of these segments syncs to the host BPM of your DAW, always remaining locked in time. You can add and subtract segments with ease and change a range of parameters, independently for each segment. 

Essential Parameters 

Each segment can be programmed with inversions from -6 to +6, transforming chord shapes and placing the root note inside of the chord itself. Experiment by pushing the lowest notes up an octave, or highest notes down an octave, turning your chords inside out.

Just The Tonic

With your chords loaded and a segment chosen, use the 18 buttons in the centre of the interface to choose Tonic, Subdominant or Dominant chord shapes. From simple triads, right through to more complex shapes, let CHORDS find the right notes for any related chord. Fancy a G7sus4 or a Bm7b5? Just let this plugin find the correct notes and work out the difficult stuff for you.

Export MIDI

Spectral Shifting

When reverb and delay just aren’t enough, reach for Venom. This powerful spectral processing plug-in twists raw audio into many types of sounds from subtle granular movements to unrecognisable soundscapes. Two stage processing

Venom processes audio in two stages: Firstly a ‘freeze’ stage captures and accumulates a snapshot of the incoming sound, applying the audio effects to the continuously and creating feedback. This causes the output signal to change over time (like the reverb tail of an echo). The subsequent direct output stage applies a user-defined spectral operation to the signal.

Seven transformations

The 7 creative audio effects shape all sorts of spectral processing: Focus, Feaze, Decay & Damping for the creation of unusual, beautiful sounding ambiences. Mirror, Pitch & Slope to generate experimental spectral transformations. Any combination of these is possible for other unique soundscapes.

Hot-swappable FX

The user interface of Venom is completely modular: Drag an individual effect into the desired position in the processing chain to define the order of effects processing.

Live or Studio

Venom comes with multi-core support to prevent any glitches and audio dropouts. It also features user-controllable parameters for various aspects of spectral resolution that allow you to find the best settings for any environment; in the studio, on the road, or in a live setting.

Power

The Venom logo acts as a bypass control for the whole plugin, and is smoothed to be click and pop free for unhindered A/B testing. Use it to swap between your original audio and the Venom transformations.

Fire It Up Presenting HEAT 2 – the original twin distortion powerhouse, now with a stunning refresh.

This face-melting plugin features an intuitive new interface, more accurate frequency monitoring and a host of under-the-hood improvements. 

Choose two of your favourite distortion and saturation models, and blend them together for fuzz-box fun. You can shape the two affected signals with high and low pass filters, resulting in a more musical output than many other types of distortion plugins. Tweak the parameters to your personal taste within the refreshed interface, newly designed to sit right alongside W.A. Production’s other inspiring plugins. The audio processing is now much clearer, with a top-to-bottom approach so it’s now easy to follow the signal flow and create amped-up overdrive.

Of course, W.A. Production also included loads of factory presets to kickstart your distortion discoveries, from extreme settings for smashing your audio to more tempered values for vocals, bass and drums. Use these presets as jumping-off points and then adjust the drive, blend, filters and other parameters to create your unique sound.

Blend 10 Devastating Distortion Types

The whole concept of HEAT 2 is to apply twin distortion and then shape the signals so that your audio is powerful, yet retains musicality. The starting point for this is the 10 different types of modelled distortion. These models all have adjustable drive levels. With a wide range of different distortion types, you can easily craft every timbre from subtle harmonics to blow-the-doors-off distortion. Each of these 10 types of processing will produce a different character and timbre, so experiment by blending between them using the central dial.

Twin Filters

These two filter controls allow you to shape your distortion far more musically than stock plugins. Separately adjust the High and Low frequency cut off parameters for the two different distortion modules. For example, you might only want to crush the mid-range of a synth part, giving it more crunch and power. Or maybe just distort the lowest frequencies of a fat kick drum. Combine two different types of distortion with two different filter shapes and get your audio production-ready with the precision of surgical saturation.

Input, Output & Mix Ratio

Use the Input and Output sliders to compensate for any gain boost or reduction caused by the distortion chambers with up to +/- 48dB attenuation. This allows for very accurate comparisons when A/Bing. Use the Mix ratio control at the bottom centre of the interface to dial in as much (or as little) of the distortion types as you need. Apply a conservative ratio for subtle saturation and sweetening, or push the control further to hear the 100% destroyed signal.

Visual Feedback

The new and improved live frequency meters at the top of the interface show exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real-time. This allows for accurate monitoring each time you decide to make a change to the distortion type or level. The output of the right-hand module is shown as an orange waveform, the output of the left-hand module is shown in yellow. This makes it easy to tell the difference between the two types of distortion that you’re applying to the signal and exactly which parts of the signal the filters are targeting.

Freq & Hype Matrix

The XY pad at the centre of OBSIDIAN is where the magic happens, with a central node that can be dragged or automated in your DAW to creatively move between different processing styles. FREQ controls the frequency and shape of the audio-rate modulation. HYPE sets the modulation depth and other special parameters. This secret combination of FX creates additional harmonics that add excitement and colour to your sounds. In essence, the incoming signal is modulated at a very high rate and then formant shifted, before being passed through a spectral delay line.

Creative Spectral Delay

The delay unit within OBSIDIAN is something rather beautiful. Containing controls for TIME, MODE and FEEDBACK, this module returns audio to the main matrix to create ever-shifting feedback. This is a delay with deceptively simple controls that has many creative uses; rhythmic effects, ambient textures, subtle vocal thickening and big-room synth echoes. Delay TIME can be changed, from 10ms – 2s to straight, triplet and dotted note partitions. Change the MODE time to freeplay, or sync to the BPM of your host project. Adjust FEEDBACK from 0-100% with precise control.

Randomization

When you’re stuck for ideas, or just want OBSIDIAN to suggest a magical metamorphosis, hit the central dice icon. The XY pad will be randomized, automatically choosing some stunning effects to shape your audio.

Mix

For creative purposes it’s useful to be able to mix the effected audio that OBSIDIAN produces with the original source audio. Use the Mix slider for this and conjure every kind of processing from subtle transformations, to full-on dub-style modulations that spin into infinity.
