Zqueezer – Easy Squeezy

As producers, we’re all searching for that something special – a quick and easy way to transform sounds beyond their original forms and push them to the next level. Some of us achieve that by using complex plugin FX chains, or even by routing audio through outboard equipment. Zqueezer is a brand new way to inject a unique flavour into your synths, basslines and vocals. 

Now, this is a difficult plugin to explain – and honestly, you’re probably better skipping the science and just taking Zqueezer for a test drive to experience the twisted squelchy goodness that it has to offer. With monophonic source audio, Zqueezer can function as a kind of “adaptive filter”, squashing the sound with an emphasis on harmonics and a type of formant-shifting effect. For more complex types of polyphonic material, Zqueezer mangles the overtones, resulting in a more complex network of partial tones and intermodulations. Sounds wild, right? It is!

Overtone

This is where Zqueezer shines, with this control assigned to select and isolate the flageolet overtones of the signal. As the dial is pushed up, increasingly fierce results are heard with squeezed frequencies that rise in pitch. As this parameter is increased you’ll hear individual overtones and at extreme values, the pitch-shifting effect is similar to a band-pass filter but with far more complexity in the harmonics. Because the filter coefficients keep changing and are derived from the waveform of the sound itself, the filter constantly adapts to the audio. 

Gain

Although seemingly simple, this control boosts the “brilliance” of the signal. It corrects amplitude at the output, which is useful for higher fraction values. Think of this control as amplitude correction or normalization, as it’s very useful when balancing the source audio against the squeezed and squashed version of itself. 

Dry/Wet

For creative purposes, it’s useful to be able to mix the waveforms that Zqueezer creates with the original source audio. Use the dry/wet knob for this and conjure every kind of processing from subtle brightening to full-on mangled and harmonically distorted strangulation. 

Presets

With many included presets, it’s easy to find the perfect way to squeeze your audio. These factory options can be used on guitars, bass, drums, synths and vocals. The presets include everything from subtle transformations to full-on strangled mutations.

5 Band Compressor

W.A Production went above and beyond and rather than give you the standard 3 band EQ, they put 5 EQ controls at your fingertips. Now you have more control to master your mix. You can customize:

• Low
• Low Mid
• Mid
• Mid High
• High

You are also able to adjust the amount of Threshold of each individual band as well as the Makeup gain of each individual band. This will give you an amazingly clear and professional sound that will please the ears of not only the producer but the listener.

The Mix Knob, as a Multi-use Tool

You can use the Mix knob to toggle between hearing how much of the effect is being used and compare it to the dry mix. You can also use the Mix Knob as a parallel compressor by adding 30% of the effected sound to the mix.
Built-in Limiter

No need to use a third party limiter. Not only do W.A Production know what it’s like to have a slew of different effects open consuming your CPU or you rack space, but they know the better the organization, the more productive you can be.

With a simple flick of a switch the limiter keeps the master track, individual audio file or MIDI instrument from exceeding the 0dB mark. The 0dB mark, also referred to as “Unity Gain”, is the maximum peak anything in a song. Anything above that will result in the dreaded “clipping”.

Upward and Downward Compression

These effects are two separate knobs on the interface of The King 2.

Adjusting either the Upward or Downward Compression knob will increase or decrease either compression. Both knobs default at 100 and are capable of dropping to 0 or being increased to 200.

Time Knob

Allows producers to adjust the attack and release time of the Upward and Downward Compression. W.A Production love how both of these compression options compliment the mix of the Multi-Band elements.

Magic EQ

The King 2s Magic EQ is an amazing development that allows you to add EQ to anything being affected whether it be a master rack, individual audio file and or MIDI instrument. The Magic EQ has 3 different shapes/ curves that are designed mainly for cleaning. The 1st option is designed to clean up the muddy frequencies to give the affected element a cleaner sound. The 2nd and 3rd option on the Magic EQ is primarily meant for the master tracks of a project. 

Designed to focus on cleaning up a wide variety of elements at one time. This means cleaning up the muddy frequencies and amplifying what it has polished clean. This will make your bright tones shine and sound crisper.

Input / Output Gain

A major factor in compression plug-ins is an Input Gain and an Output Gain option. These two options are extremely important based on what you are using The King 2 on. Say you have a MIDI Instrument and you need to judge how much of the instrument gains into The King 2, you would adjust the Input Gain knob, and to judge how much The King 2’s effects push out into the mix. 

These features are important to understand and use, because they can bring the clarity of the effect and really show how amazing The King 2 is. W.A Production really hope producers abuse this feature to really get that intense sound that The King 2 provides!

What is it?

InstaScale is a newly invented, scale oriented instrument with only 16 keys to play with. But wait, is that enough? Turns out it’s more than enough. Unlike the standard keyboard instruments where each key can only play a single note, InstaScale has a set of smart keys, each one capable of playing different notes. The new note will be based on the given scale, last note’s position and the action of the key assigned to it.

InstaScale is available as a MIDI processor plugin that can be used in any DAW that supports VST instrument plugins (with MIDI routing) or AU MIDI effect plugins, given you the freedom to play any instrument you choose without any limitations regarding the sound and hardware.

What can I use it for?

• Learning. With all the scales included in the plugin and various information displayed on the interface, Instascale can be a valuable source to study and learn different scales and modes very quickly.
• Ear Training. Get familiar with the scales in different keys and modes without having to know how to play them. Train your ear to recognize intervals and distances quickly. Using the home feature you can stay on a certain note and see what feelings it creates compared to the other notes of that scale.
• Serious playing. Instascale might seem like a strange and unfamiliar instrument at first but don’t be fooled, like any other instrument with enough practice and dedication you can play a kind of mind blowing music that you could have never done with any other instrument out there.
• Experimenting and getting inspired. Considering that you can never hit a wrong note with Instascale, just play random keys and get inspired by the unpredictable but musically pleasant results. Happy accidents always happen. You don’t even have to use your MIDI keyboard, you can use your drum pad/kit, map the pads to the correct keys and start playing. You’d be surprised how cool it feels and sounds.
• Breaking the rules. The foundation of the plugin is based on doing things differently, knowing the rules first and then breaking them. So let it inspire you to go even further and find new ways to create music without limiting your mind to the concept of black and white keys and minor and major scales. The plugin guards the rules but lets you change them, bend them or break them. It lets you change the scale, root and home notes on the fly, do crazy runs, it even allows you to create your own experimental scales.

How does it work?

InstaScale works as a VST instrument and AU MIDI effect plugin. It receives midi data from the controller and swaps it with the processed one. In VST mode the output can be routed to any other instrument in the host application using the available routing functions in that host. The AU version works as a midi effect only in hosts like Logic Pro x that supports the type. There are 16 playing keys that will be used to play the target instrument. What these keys do and where they’re placed on the controller can be customized. They can have static offset values like ‘Home’ or a relative ones like ‘+2’ or ‘-3’. Using this offset value and the previous note, the plug-in calculate the actual note the key plays. you can read more about the playing keys in the manual. In addition to playing keys there are some control keys that can be used to change and control some of the parameters of the plugin like scale and octave directly from the MIDI controller.

Features

• Scales. A list of commonly known and used scales such as Major, Minor, Melodic Minor, Harmonic Minor, Spanish, Arabic, Major Pentatonic, Minor Pentatonic, Blues, In Sen, Hirajoshi and more.
• User friendly Interface: There are a lot of elements on the interface such as different readouts, virtual keyboards and graphics which help the user have a better experience and get the most out of the plugin.
• Edit or Add Scales. Users can edit existing scales or add their own scales (Full version only).
• Home Note. The home note can be changed from the root to any other note on the scale making it possible to play different modes or accompany chord changes.
• Playing Keys with lots of options. For each of the 16 playing keys, there are two menus. The mapping menu, and the action menu. First one determines where the key is placed  on the controller, and includes a list of MIDI notes. The second menu determines what the key does and includes some static and some relative options like ‘Home’, ‘Repeat’, ‘+1’, etc. You can read more about the playing keys in the manual.
• Control Keys. There are several control keys that can be set and used to improve live performance. These keys provide an easy access to control and change the scale, octave, root and home parameters using midi notes on the controller.
• Root -/+, Scale -/+, Home -/+, Octave -/+. When assigned to a midi note, these keys can be used to change the Key(root), Scale, Home Note and Octave by switching up or down the values.
• Scale, Root, Home, Octave Switch keys. These assign a series of midi notes to be used to switch between specific values just by hitting a single note. For example by setting Root Switch to ‘C2-B2’, C2 on the controller will set the key to C, C# will set the key to C# and so on.
• Poly: Multiple notes can be played simultaneously. Same notes can be stacked on top of each other to build chords. For example in C major, Home key plus two stacked +2 key will produce C major chord (C+E+G). The order of notes are important. So even if you’re using MIDI editor in your DAW and placing them at the same point in time or even on top of each other, the first note created will be the first one processed and so the second note’s value is based on the first ones.
• Octave Shifter: Shifts the output octave up and down. Input octave can also be shifted to a more preferable playing position or to match the host’s labels, using ‘C2’ menu.
• Pass through mode: By changing the mode to pass through, users can bypass the plugin play the target instrument normally.
• Map Playing and Control Keys: Instascale allows users to change the default settings and map all the keys to desired midi notes. Different keys can have the same offset value making it possible to set interesting playing modes.

Smooth Talking

Capturing that perfect vocal take is difficult, but knowing how to process vocals can be even trickier. The first step in the chain is often compression, but with so many different types of compressors to choose from which is the perfect solution for your vocals? W.A Production has created Vocal Compressor to solve that problem, featuring a compression chain that’s transparent, balanced and adds a subtle flavour, colour and grit to make vocals sit perfectly in a mix.

The 3-stage compression passes your audio through 3 distinct types of compressors to tame troublesome peaks, balance dynamics and add flavourful saturation. Throw in gating & colour controls alongside options for parallel compression and you’ve got an all-in-one compression tool that suits vocals perfectly but will also work well on synths, bass, leads and other audio.

Peaks

The first step in the signal chain; the Peaks compressor removes amplitude spikes from the signal to make it sound smoother. It aggressively clamps down on the rogue dynamics of your vocal, preparing the signal for the next stage. You’ll only need to push down the threshold by a few dB to hear the effect in action and at it’s transparent best.

Balance

This is a parallel compressor that leaves loud transients intact whilst making the softer parts of your audio louder. This results in a reduction of overall dynamic range to make the vocal sit better in the mix. Use the Mix and Makeup dials to set the balance between the lightly compressed Peaks output and the heavily compressed Balance processing of the same signal. Don’t hold back on the gain reduction as this compressor needs a threshold of around 20dB to work. Keep pushing that threshold down until things sound good.  

Flavour

This compressor has an integrated tape saturation curve to add harmonics, grit and flavour to the audio. Start subtly and then adjust the threshold until you can hear the bite of your vocal, so it clearly rides over the top of your track.

Gate & Colour

Remove unwanted and distracting pops, clicks and noise with the Gate dial. With the Colour slider, dial in a frequency curve that’s specifically tailored to vocal processing, making your vocal performance sound as professional as possible.

Bypass, Output & Master Mix

The bypass control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered A/B testing when combined with the Output dial. Choose to mix the compressed signal with your original raw audio via the central Master Mix ratio control, allowing you to dial down the compression ratio for parallel effects.

Visual Feedback

The live visuals of the interface meters show exactly what’s happening to the signal as it travels through each compressor in real-time. This allows for accurate monitoring at every step of the chain.

Presets

With many included presets, it’s easy to find the perfect starting point for your own compression adventures. Categorised into distinct themes, these presets can be used on all sorts of audio, not just vocals. They include everything from subtle shaping to more full-on saturated compression effects.

We’ve done it again… after the release of “Pumper” we wanted to step up our game and give you even more control over the punch and power of your sounds. The sequel, Pumper 3, has been long in development as our team toiled away to retain the stellar performance parameters of the original plugin whilst adding new features. Compressor

The compression module has 4 flexible modes:

• Punchy Mode gives you that direct punch and clarity. This is great for kick drums or percussion.
• Fat will help to bring out the bottom end of your audio and make it sound big.
• Clean is more transparent and perfect for adding cohesion. Great for softer vocals or acoustic instruments.

Saturator

Add warmth and depth with subtle saturation settings, or push the dial up high for pronounced distortion with a harder edge.

The new Rise and Fall settings allow you to shape transients and smooth out the character of the saturation, both essential controls for fine-tuning the performance of any audio.

Stereo Imager

Bring your tracks to life with the Stereo Image control, adding beautifully clear width and depth. Unique to Pumper 3, the dedicated Low and High shelf modes, alongside frequency and resonance controls, allow you to focus the width processing to specific frequency ranges. Use these settings to emphasise the unique characteristics of a sound.

Using these 3 modules simultaneously within one plugin is quick, easy and inspiring.

Semi-Modular Multi-Effect

W. A. Production are always looking for clever ways to add movement and excitement to your tracks. However, it’s tiresome to keep loading up the same effects chains again and again. This is why they have created SphereQuad as an easy and extremely flexible solution for bringing complex rhythmic movement, filter sweeps and stereo madness to your mixes.

The concept behind SphereQuad is a combination of stereo flanger, phaser and chorus effects fed into a stereo filter, combined with an onboard step sequencer that controls the filter. However, the execution of these effects is far more interesting as you can control the left and right filters independently to push sound around the stereo field. The flexible routing between the different modules can be quickly dialled in to create a huge variety of special effects.

Each of the Flanger, Phaser and Chorus modules has multiple parameters for adjusting the main characteristics. The modules can be activated individually, or mixed and routed in various combinations to create a wall of unusual effects.

This inspirational plugin keeps getting better and better. After the release of the original “Chords”, we developed “Chords Pro” to include lots of user requests. Now it’s time for another innovative update, with CHORDS PRO + NOTES taking the concepts of the original and turning the features and functionality up to eleven.

This plugin creates chords and arpeggios from simple ideas at the click of a button, all fully customizable within an intuitive circular interface. Originally designed for EDM productions, but useful for a variety of genres, this upgraded workstation will manufacture chords and note progressions with flair and ease. Try out new ideas within the intuitive interface or click “create” to instruct the plugin to conjure unique concepts, from suggesting single 4-note chords to producing complex 8-chord multi-note arpeggios.

Place this MIDI effect ahead of any MIDI-triggered audio generating plugin and hit your DAW’s play button. With such a great reception to the original plugin, we’ve upgraded CHORDS PRO + NOTES with many new features:

The most notable functions relate to the new “Notes” mode, an entirely separate interface page. This is a note-pattern editor embedded into the framework of the chord playback. So as well as playing 4 notes simultaneously for each chord, Notes mode can partition each chord into up to 8 segments with independent control over each note of each partition. This makes it easy to program piano melodies, plucked arps, trance-gate chords and much more. Along with the preset sequences, there are Copy / Paste controls and Repeat functions to help you program quickly.

Global Chords: Use the global controls to adjust chord inversions, length, speed and root key of the entire playback, making on-the-fly adjustments to your entire riff a simple process. To get into the detail, click a segment for more granular control over chord shapes (including major / minor variations), individual inversions and velocity.

Create & Compare: Use the A/B comparison toggle to lock-in a favorite sequence, whilst experimenting on another version of it. Hit the “create” button to intelligently randomize one or more chords in a sequence, based on the starting chords of your riff. CHORDS PRO contains 30 different chord types, with musical-sounding progressions for natural transitions.

Simple Segments: With up to 8 chord segments, each with up to 8 partitions, you can choose to trigger between one and four notes per chord. Then choose how to play these notes. The playback syncs to the host BPM of your DAW, always remaining locked in time. You can add and subtract segments with ease and change a range of parameters, independently for each segment.

Essential Parameters: Each segment can be programmed with inversions from -6 to +6, transforming chord shapes and placing the root note inside of the chord itself. Experiment by pushing the lowest notes up an octave, or highest notes down an octave, turning your chords inside out. These inversions also apply to the Note playback, enabling a wide range of different playback options for each chord.

Just The Tonic: With your chords loaded and a segment chosen, use the range of chord shapes in the centre of the interface to choose between 30 different chord types: Tonic, Subdominant or Dominant, from simple triads to mind-bending shapes like Dbm7b5! The plugin automatically finds the right notes for any related chord.

Granular Notes: Open the new Notes window to split chords into partitions, drawing in the playback of the 4 chord notes to create melodies, arpeggios and shorter chords. With options for Copy / Paste and Repeat, it’s easy to sketch out ideas for just one chord and then apply that playback to the others, experimenting as you go.

Export MIDI: To get the chord progressions and arps into your own projects, simply drag and drop from the plugin to your DAW. Then you can edit to your heart’s content, editing the MIDI, transposing and twisting the suggestions to suit your own style of music.

You can transpose all the chords to any other key you want using the ‘transpose’ button. In addition to having access to chords and being able to set a progressions, one of the other great thing about InstaChord is it’s playability.

• Chords with different voicing: We have Included almost all the common chords (maj, min, sus2, 6th, 7th, etc) in 5 different voicing (basic, 1st and 2nd inversions, guitar and wide). Each voicing mode has a unique sound due to the order of notes and might be a better choice to fit with the other chords in the song.
• Playing chords:There are a lot of ways that you can play the chords. You can Hit or strum the chords with different combination of notes, speeds and directions. For example a key can be assigned to strum top 3 notes of the chord and another one to hit 2 middle notes. You can also play individual notes of the chord separately. So it’s possible to arpeggiate the chords or strum them manually as well.
• Hold mode: This feature allows the fretting hand (chord changer keys) to control the sustain. So as long as the chord key is held down any note you play will ring out, just like a guitar or using a sustain pedal.
• Chord Keys: Set up to 24 different chords and switch between them using the chord keys.
• Action Keys: Set your own functions for the 24 action keys provided and tell them what you want them to do. Play a full strum, hit first two notes, transpose, etc.
• Transpose: Transpose the current chords to any other key you want with just a few click. This is also useful when playing live when the key of the song changes.

So it’s possible to manually arpeggiate or strum chords.

Action Stations

Newly integrated into the main playback keys, action keys can be set to transpose by octave or semitone, providing an easy way to move chords away whilst playing live.

Transient Shaper

The ‘Transients’ section lets you shape the transients and sustain of your tracks. The main mix control lets you set the intensity of the effect, while the advanced settings give you control over the stereo linking, bandwidth and envelope length of the detection signal, as well as the maximum boost overage or cut that you want to apply to your signal’s transients or sustain.

Multiband Compressor

The ‘Multiband’ section divides your track into 4 bands with subtractive IIR filters, creating a real-time linear phase Multiband split. Every band has its own compressor that applies logarithmic attack and release directly to the required gain reduction value, instead of to the detection signal, smoothing out the compression effect in an analogue fashion.

Parallel Compressor

The Parallel section lets you apply smooth parallel compression to even out the dynamics in your track in a very natural way, or create a powerful compression effect. You can also reduce the dynamic range without reduction to the peak level. The compressor has a continuous RMS time control and a knee width control that will let you fine-tune the compressor’s sensitivity to react aggressive and digital, or silky and analogue. By adding a parallel compressor to work with the Multiband band compressor this increases the effective compression ratio and makes the processing more obvious and effective.

Low & High Frequency Split

The main concept behind Put Me On Drums is in the way it splits audio into high and low frequency modules for independent processing. Adjust the crossover from 20Hz to 20kHz to find the perfect mid-point for your drum processing, with different effects applied to each of the frequency bands.

Low Module

Controls for the low frequency band include Belly, Punch, Sub Tail, Length and EQ adjustments. Saturate your low end with “Belly” and control the transient level sent into the saturator with “Punch”. Drum characteristics can be tweaked and tails extended with the “Sub Tail” button and “Length” dial, making 808s shine with upper harmonics or kicks ring out for longer. Focus the processing on a particular band, or notch out problematic frequencies with the EQ controls.

High Module

Controls for the high frequency band include Frequency Shifter, Dimension, Width and EQ adjustments. This plugin makes it easy to shape the upper frequencies of hi-hats and snares, using a clever combination of formant shifting additional voices. Select your target frequency with the “Frequency Shifter” dial, then control the overall formant feel with the “Shift” knob. This makes it easy to retune high percussion to fit with the key of your track, or just push the harmonic content a little more for shimmer and sparkle. Spread the dimension effect around the stereo field with the “Width” control and focus top-end processing on a particular band with EQ adjustments.

Compare & Contrast

With two profiles, A & B, it’s easy to compare presets or your own tweaks. Copy and paste between the two profiles and select each with a single click, to analyse changes to your adjustments, fine-tuning each until you reach the perfect settings. If you make a mistake, or want to go back to previous settings, just use the Undo & Redo buttons, or Randomize for a fresh and unexpected take on drum processing.

Mix & Balance

With independent gain controls for Input and Output, plus a master Mix ratio dial for parallel processing, you can use Put Me On Drums for either small surgical changes or dynamic destruction. The master Limiter toggle smooths out the dynamics of the outgoing audio and the output level slider allows you to set a level for accurate A/Bing with the pop-free Power control.

Visual Feedback

The live frequency display at the top of the interface shows exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real time. Simply drag the frequency crossover to shift the perspective between high and low modules. Visually monitor what’s happening each time you make a parameter change, with precision and accuracy.

Delay: Dodged & Defined

‘Mutant Delay’ is a host-synced delay plugin with a built-in ducker, perfect for vocal processing and many other applications. In the studio, we’ve lost count of the number of times we’ve had to set up convoluted sidechain and compression routing, just to achieve a ducked delay for our vocal lines. With Mutant Delay all that complexity is a thing of the past. Now you can easily replicate this popular mixing technique with just one plugin and a couple of clicks, allowing you to dial in extreme delay effects whilst maintaining clarity of the original signal. If you want to keep things simple, just load up Mutant Delay on your vocal track, choose a preset and voila! Need to get deeper? Adjust the delay and ducking parameters to your own taste, with clear visual feedback provided in real time, showing exactly how the ducked delay is being performed.

So what’s going on under the hood? Essentially, the ducker listens to the dry source, and ducks the wet delay signal making space for the source signal. This setup is very useful when using more pronounced delay effects that have a lot of feedback. For example; vocals, synths and percussion. Quickly dial in extreme delay effects without losing the definition and clarity of the source signal.

Power: The Mutant Delay logo acts as a bypass control for the whole plugin, and is smoothed to be click and pop free for unhindered A/B testing.

Visual Feedback: The waveform graph at the very top of the interface shows the dry source and the wet delay signal in different colours. You can clearly see what the plugin is doing in terms of delay and ducking.

Synced Delay Section: The Synced Delay section of Mutant Delay offers flexible host-synced delay for the left and right channel independently, including High & Low pass filters and a Ping-Pong setting.

Mix & Time: Use the Mix dial to set the wet delay level. Used in conjunction with the Threshold and Ratio dials within the Internal Ducker section, this parameter can give precise control over the performance of the delay and feedback. Independent delay time controls for the left and right channels can be set from 1/1 to 1/16 with straight, triplet or dotted notes.

Feedback & Ping-pong: The Feedback dial mixes the output of the delay back into the input of the delay line, creating a repetitive delay effect. For more complex delay combinations, you can cross-mix the feedback paths of the left and right delay channel using the Ping-Pong routing option.

Frequency shaping: A common delay technique; shaping the frequency of the delay tail adds movement to the feedback and helps with mix clarity, reducing high and low end clutter. Mutant Delay’s High & Low pass filter dials can be used to filter the output of the delayed signal in two different ways. Mode A limits the entire delayed signal to the upper and lower frequency limits. Mode B will introduce the frequency shaping slowly as the delay feeds back – an interesting and creative effect.

Internal Ducker Section: The ducking section of the interface works similarly to a standard compressor and the Threshold and Ratio dials are the main controls for shaping how the ducked signal is processed. Threshold sets the intensity level at which the compressor starts working and the Ratio dial dictates how much gain reduction is applied.

Advanced Controls : Attack / Hold / Release: You can fine tune the behaviour of the ducking effect with the Attack, Hold and Release dials. Attack allows you to ignore transients in the delay signal. Hold stabilises the generated gain reduction. Release set the fade out time for the gain reduction. Adjusting these parameters is the key to shaping your bespoke delay. Try setting Attack to zero and dialling in a long Release time for a really atmospheric effect.

Presets: Including a wide range of factory presets, Mutant Delay is designed to get you up and running quickly. The specially tailored settings include many types of delay chains, from standard processing right through to special FX. These are all easily accessible from the plugin menu and of course, you can save you own settings as user presets too.

SphereComp – A dual mode compressor plugin

W. A. Production has created the perfect way to approach and achieve proper compression. All producers know compression can either be an award-winning tool if used properly, or it can totally destroy your mix. Audio students are introduced to compression and most are left confused or scared to death of it. SphereComp is capable of catering to the seasoned pro and the beginner.

To get the same results you get with SphereComp you would have to spend thousands of dollars in high end rack gear, invest time getting acquainted, making adjustments over and over until you get the result you want. Not to mention installation and routing your patch bay. Breathe a sigh of relief. Don’t dread compression. Embrace it.

What is dual – mode?

Dual mode allows YOU to switch from peak compression (regular mode) to RMS compression (buss mode).

If you route your drum tracks (or any other group of tracks) into a group track, you are able to compress this group as a whole. Tying or “gluing” the individual elements to perform as one. The Buss mode is designed especially for that, It reacts to the RMS (root mean square) or the average of the signal, creating a smooth and musical compression. Regular mode reacts to the peaks of the signal, with it, you are able to dynamically shape the individual tracks. Keep in mind that some individual tracks will benefit much more from RMS compression and some groups or mixes will benefit more from peak compression, so experiment and see what works best for your track

Features

• Input – Control the input gain by +/- 15dB.
• Threshold – Threshold (dB), when the signal level exceeds the threshold the compressor goes into action.
• Ratio – (ratio/1) As an example, a 3:1 ratio means that for every 3dB the input signal exceeds the threshold, only 1dB will be allowed to pass by the compressor.
• Output – Control the output gain by +/- 15dB.

Now that you have your set your levels as a basic start, lets adjust the timing and behavior. When you’re done, you can come back and fine tune everything to make your track seat perfectly in the mix.

• Buss – Switch between Regular mode (peak compression) and Buss mode (RMS compression).
• Attack – Time in milliseconds that it will take for the compressor to reach its destination gain reduction, after the signal has crossed the threshold.
• Release – Time in milliseconds that it will take for the compressor to reach 0 gain reduction after the signal returned below the threshold.
• Auto Gain – Auto Gain matches the output volume to input volume automatically.
• Stereo – Switch between stereo and mono modes.
• Punch – Parallel processing to add punch to the signal before the compression stage.
• Saturate – Add tube style saturation to the compressed signal.
• Clean – Make the compressor sound as clean as possible. If Punch or Saturate are on, it will reduce their effect giving you different timbre options.
• Side Chain – Signal from the right channel input goes to the detector and the signal from the left channel input goes to the compressor.
• Soft Clipping – Use to round the signal when it approaches 0.0dB and ensures it does not exceed it.
• Bypass – Allows you to engage and disengage the compressor.

Syllables That Shine

However hard you try, capturing a perfect vocal is an almost impossible task. Contending with plosives and pops, crackles and clicks, has driven many a producer to distraction.

The first hurdle is getting your dry vocal track as pristine as possible and fixing all those troublesome little audio imperfections. This is way before you can even think about compression or reverb.

Vocal Cleaner puts your vocals through a rinse cycle, subtly taming harsh sibilance and removing intermittent noise. With simple threshold sliders and Amount dials for easy operation, this should be the first plugin in your vocal effects chain, taking the pain out of that initial stage of vocal processing. So load it into your DAW and get ready to really clean up.

De-Noise

Applying an intelligent algorithm to the incoming audio, this process splits the signal into voice and noise and allows you to strip away the background hum, hiss and other extraneous noise. Experiment with the main fader and the Amount dial to reduce the noise to a manageable level without compromising the vocal quality.

De-Ess

Hissing mouth sounds created by “sss” and “shh” sounds are known as sibilance. These can be exaggerated by some microphones and result in a recording that sounds unbalanced and is difficult to listen to comfortably. The De-Es unit within Vocal Cleaner detects these harsh high frequency sounds and creates an intelligent and adaptable EQ curve, reducing the volume of these unwanted artefacts. 

Noise Gate

Setting a minimum threshold of amplitude, the Noise Gate clamps down on quiet sections of audio whilst letting louder parts through. This is ideal for cutting out breath sounds and room noise. Fine-tune the effect with the Amount dial to maintain a natural sound.

Bright, Natural & Dark

The signal algorithms are optimised for audio with different qualities, so you can click the B/N/D buttons to tailor the processing to your individual needs. Choose either Bright, for high frequency noise, dark for noise in the lower register or Natural for a balanced effect.

High / Low Filter & Presence

Using the high and low pass filter helps to roll-off unwanted hum and upper frequencies, balancing the audio in a comfortable centre-ground. The Presence control restores some of the definition with a combination of saturation, compression and EQ. 

Bright, Natural & Dark (B/N/D)

The signal algorithms are optimised for audio with different qualities, so you can click the B/N/D buttons to tailor the processing to your individual needs. Choose either Bright, for high frequency noise, dark for noise in the lower register or Natural for a balanced effect.

Bypass, Output & Master Mix

The bypass control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered A/B testing when combined with the Output dial. Choose to mix the cleaned vocal signal with your original raw audio via the central Master Mix ratio control, allowing you to dial down the impact of heavier processing for parallel effects.

Visual Feedback

The live VU meters of the interface show exactly what’s happening to the signal as it travels through each stage of cleaning in real time. This allows for accurate monitoring at every step of the chain.

Character

The GLUE control changes the behaviour of the compressor’s detector and processor. When set to 0%, Presser will act as a fast peak compressor, taming transients. At 100%, the compression model will behave like a classic bus compressor, providing more sustained changes and a smoother sound. Use the PUNCH dial to introduce transient punch using a built in dynamic equaliser. Kicks, snares, basslines and more can be made snappier and tighter with this control. HEAT adds analog style saturation both pre and post compressor, introducing harmonics and sonic artefacts. Adjust the dial from subtle warmth to gritty overdrive.

Detector

The CHANNEL LINK dial allows you to choose whether the stereo channels will be processed independently or together. This feature allows for greater control over the compressor’s behaviour, enabling subtly different processing on each channel or preservation of the stereo image. HIGH-PASS controls the frequency of a high pass filter for detection. This helps to reduce the unwanted pumping effect of more delicate compression settings. It’s a common technique to SIDECHAIN a compressor to a different audio trigger. Of course we had to include it as part of Presser, but with a special twist. The variable control can be set to any level between 0% (normal compression) and 100% (sidechain input only), making for some creative sidechain possibilities.

The Basics, Done Right

With all the compressor controls you know and love, Presser is the first compressor plugin you should fire up. As well as Aiden Kenway’s innovative additions, it features all the basic compression parameters you need for everyday use. This makes Presser a versatile and powerful tool for shaping the dynamic range of a wide range of different types of audio. Choose to mix the compressed signal with your original raw audio via the MIX ratio control, allowing you to dial down the wet / dry for parallel compression effects. Click the LIMITER button to limit the output of the plugin. Push more signal into the limiter using the OUTPUT setting, resulting in more limiting and a louder result. The BYPASS control is smoothed to be as click and pop free as possible for unhindered A/B testing.

InstaScale

What is it?

Instascale is a newly invented, scale oriented instrument with only 16 keys to play with. But wait, is that enough? Turns out it’s more than enough. Unlike the standard keyboard instruments where each key can only play a single note, Instascale has a set of smart keys, each one capable of playing different notes. The new note will be based on the given scale, last note’s position and the action of the key assigned to it.

Instascale is available as a MIDI processor plugin that can be used in any DAW that supports VST instrument plugins (with MIDI routing) or AU MIDI effect plugins, given you the freedom to play any instrument you choose without any limitations regarding the sound and hardware.

What can I use it for?

• Learning. With all the scales included in the plugin and various information displayed on the interface, Instascale can be a valuable source to study and learn different scales and modes very quickly.
• Ear Training. Get familiar with the scales in different keys and modes without having to know how to play them. Train your ear to recognize intervals and distances quickly. Using the home feature you can stay on a certain note and see what feelings it creates compared to the other notes of that scale.
• Serious playing. Instascale might seem like a strange and unfamiliar instrument at first but don’t be fooled, like any other instrument with enough practice and dedication you can play a kind of mind blowing music that you could have never done with any other instrument out there.

Blend 10 Devastating Distortion Types

The whole concept of HEAT is to apply twin distortion and then shape the signals so that your audio is powerful, yet retains musicality. The starting point for this are the 10 different types of modelled distortion. These 10 models can be loaded into the two chambers, each with adjustable drive levels. With a wide range of different distortion types, from Browning to Bazooka, you can easily craft everything from subtle saturation and harmonics to blow-the-doors-off distortion. Each of these 10 types of processing will produce a different character and timbre, so experiment by blending between them with a flick of the bullet chamber.

Twin Filters

These two filter controls allow you to shape your distortion far more musically than stock plugins. Separately adjust the High and Low frequency cut off parameters for the two different distortion chambers. For example, you might only want to crush the mid-range of a synth part, giving it more crunch and power. Or maybe just distort the lowest frequencies of a fat kick drum. Combine two different types of distortion with two different filter shapes and get your audio production-ready with the precision of surgical saturation.

Input, Output & Mix Ratio

Use the Input and Output sliders to compensate for any gain boost or reduction caused by the distortion chambers with up to +/- 48dB attenuation. This allows for very accurate comparisons when A/Bing. Use the Mix ratio control at the centre of the interface to dial in as much (or as little) of the distortion types as you need. Apply a conservative ratio for subtle saturation and sweetening or push the control further to hear the 100% destroyed signal.

Visual Feedback

The live visual meters around the perimeter of the interface show exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real time. This allows for accurate monitoring each time you decide to make a change to the distortion type or level. The output of the right-hand chambers is shown as a bouncing orange waveform, the output of the left-hand chamber shown in yellow. This makes it easy to tell the difference between the two types of distortion that you’re applying to the signal and exactly which parts of the signal the filters are targeting.

New to CHORDS PRO

With such a great reception to the original, we’ve injected CHORDS PRO with many new features: Use the A/B comparison toggle to lock-in a favourite sequence, whilst experimenting on another version of it. Hit the “create” button to intelligently randomise one or more chords in a sequence, based on the starting chords of your riff. The original plugin has only 18 chord types, but CHORDS PRO contains 30. Under the hood, the programming has been refreshed to take account of these new chord shapes, so that progressions sound musical and natural. This also applies to the refreshed and expanded selection of factory presets.

Global or Granular

Use the global controls to adjust inversions, length, speed and root key of the entire playback, making on-the-fly adjustments to your entire riff a simple process. To get into the detail, click a segment for more granular control over chord shapes (including major / minor variations), individual inversions and velocity.

Simple Segments

With up to 8 segments, each containing a different chord type, you can choose to trigger between one and four notes per chord. The playback of these segments syncs to the host BPM of your DAW, always remaining locked in time. You can add and subtract segments with ease and change a range of parameters, independently for each segment.

Essential Parameters

Each segment can be programmed with inversions from -6 to +6, transforming chord shapes and placing the root note inside of the chord itself. Experiment by pushing the lowest notes up an octave, or highest notes down an octave, turning your chords inside out.

Just The Tonic

With your chords loaded and a segment chosen, use the expanding range of chord shapes in the centre of the interface to choose between 30 different chord types: Tonic, Subdominant or Dominant. From simple triads, right through to more complex shapes, let CHORDS PRO find the right notes for any related chord. Fancy a Cmadd9 or a Am7b5? Just let this plugin find the correct notes and work out the difficult stuff for you.

Export MIDI

To get the chord progressions into your own projects, simply drag and drop from the plugin to your DAW. Then you can edit to your heart’s content, chopping up the MIDI, transposing and twisting the CHORDS PRO suggestions to suit your own style of music.
