Distorting a broadband signal may be useful, but it’s usually too overpowering and doesn’t give you many options. MWaveFolderMB lets you split the input signal up to 6 bands and use a different custom shape in each of them. You can even modulate the shapes for a real distorted madness.

MangledVerb™ is a unique effect combining reverb and distortion. Ported directly from the award-winning H9 Harmonizer®, MangledVerb is capable of creating lush reverbs, ripping distortion leads and sound-sculpting musical chaos. Guitarists have used it for years to create signature sounds and now you can have it in your favourite DAW.

A Brief History of MangledVerb

MangledVerb started life as a popular effect algorithm in Eventide’s rack-mount Eclipse and is one of the key algorithms included in our Space and H9 stompboxes. The plug-in version has been optimized for anyone working ‘in the box’ and presets can be shared between Space, the H9 and the MangledVerb plug-in.

Blue Cat’s Destructor is a powerful distortion and amp sim modeling tool capable of simulating any kind of distortion: from harsh digital destruction to smooth compression or guitar amp simulation (works for clean tones too!), and most importantly, yours!

It is delivered with hundreds of presets and predefined models, either inspired by existing gear (guitar & bass amps or cabinets, compressors, pedals, tape machines…) or created by our destructive minds.

But the plug-in is not limited to these predefined models: all parameters of existing presets are fully editable, which gives you access to an unlimited number of distortion simulations – no need to purchase extra presets or amp models to build your custom tone.

Based on a perceptual model rather than on electronic designs or impulse responses, the signal chain is reduced to its bare minimum, simplifying the process of tweaking the tone and making it fit into the mix.

The components

Forget about complex audio routing and syncing up multiple LFOs. With Screamo that’s handled for you as half of the plugin interface features a dedicated waveform shaper which can modulate resonant filters, distortion and gain to add life to any audio. Smear

Two resonant shelving filters give a talk-box-like effect when used with restraint or full-on screamer when pushed hard. 3 different styles of smear effect can be switched: either upward, downward or two-way frequency modulation.

Drive

Use the Drive control to make your percussion loops crack or synths cut through the mix. Push your signal from subtle saturation to extreme overdrive. Soft, medium and hard style distortion modes can be activated.

Sync Everything

The Smear, Drive and Makeup controls are all synced together allowing you to create tempo-synced scream effects that would normally be very complex to achieve with normal plugin routing.

Use the bottom row of Shape, Speed and Smooth dials to design your waveform, controlling the 3 parameters on the top row. It’s totally possible to create a slowly evolving talk-box effect, or crazy fluttering overdrive – and everything in between.

Fire It Up Presenting HEAT 2 – the original twin distortion powerhouse, now with a stunning refresh.

This face-melting plugin features an intuitive new interface, more accurate frequency monitoring and a host of under-the-hood improvements. 

Choose two of your favourite distortion and saturation models, and blend them together for fuzz-box fun. You can shape the two affected signals with high and low pass filters, resulting in a more musical output than many other types of distortion plugins. Tweak the parameters to your personal taste within the refreshed interface, newly designed to sit right alongside W.A. Production’s other inspiring plugins. The audio processing is now much clearer, with a top-to-bottom approach so it’s now easy to follow the signal flow and create amped-up overdrive.

Of course, W.A. Production also included loads of factory presets to kickstart your distortion discoveries, from extreme settings for smashing your audio to more tempered values for vocals, bass and drums. Use these presets as jumping-off points and then adjust the drive, blend, filters and other parameters to create your unique sound.

Blend 10 Devastating Distortion Types

The whole concept of HEAT 2 is to apply twin distortion and then shape the signals so that your audio is powerful, yet retains musicality. The starting point for this is the 10 different types of modelled distortion. These models all have adjustable drive levels. With a wide range of different distortion types, you can easily craft every timbre from subtle harmonics to blow-the-doors-off distortion. Each of these 10 types of processing will produce a different character and timbre, so experiment by blending between them using the central dial.

Twin Filters

These two filter controls allow you to shape your distortion far more musically than stock plugins. Separately adjust the High and Low frequency cut off parameters for the two different distortion modules. For example, you might only want to crush the mid-range of a synth part, giving it more crunch and power. Or maybe just distort the lowest frequencies of a fat kick drum. Combine two different types of distortion with two different filter shapes and get your audio production-ready with the precision of surgical saturation.

Input, Output & Mix Ratio

Use the Input and Output sliders to compensate for any gain boost or reduction caused by the distortion chambers with up to +/- 48dB attenuation. This allows for very accurate comparisons when A/Bing. Use the Mix ratio control at the bottom centre of the interface to dial in as much (or as little) of the distortion types as you need. Apply a conservative ratio for subtle saturation and sweetening, or push the control further to hear the 100% destroyed signal.

Visual Feedback

The new and improved live frequency meters at the top of the interface show exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real-time. This allows for accurate monitoring each time you decide to make a change to the distortion type or level. The output of the right-hand module is shown as an orange waveform, the output of the left-hand module is shown in yellow. This makes it easy to tell the difference between the two types of distortion that you’re applying to the signal and exactly which parts of the signal the filters are targeting.

Two-Stage Saturation

In a world with so many options for distortion and saturation, where do you turn when you want an effect that really slams? We have the solution to your saturation search, with Make Me Scream.

It’s a crazy sounding name for a crazy sounding plugin that contains a 2-stage effect, with 4 different distortion types and 4 alternate timbre modes. The musicality of your audio is maintained with a smart signal follower that shapes the distortion envelope in line with the transients of your track. To get the most from distortion it’s a good idea to feed the module a slightly saturated signal in the first place, so we’ve added an adjustable preamp tube at the beginning of the signal chain. This 2-stage effect results in a far more dramatic sounds then regular distortion, as the initial tube processing gives the distortion a juicy overdriven signal to latch on to.

Of course, we’ve also included loads of presets to get your overdrive odyssey off to a flying start. These include settings for vocals, drums, bass, full mixes and even some guitar amp simulations. Use them as jumping-off points to tweak the audio to your taste.

4 Distortion Types

With a range of different distortion types, Make Me Scream can handle tasks from subtle saturation and excitement to batter-the-door-down distortion. The 4 modes are; Analog tube saturation, Soft clipping saturation, Regular distortion & Folded sinus distortion. Each of these 4 types of processing will produce a different character and it’s easy to see which mode you’re currently using with the handy interface graphics.

4 Timbre Modes

Depending on which distortion type and mode you use, you’ll hear the audio mangled in different ways. The 4 mode buttons allow access to different styles of processing, with each effecting the signal frequencies in their own way. These modes are named; Fuzz, Wall, Cliff and Make Me Scream (of course). Fuzz is a balanced mode, Wall creates a more muted tone that concentrates on bass, Cliff emphasises the mid range frequencies and Make Me Scream mode brings out the higher frequencies. 

Preamp Tube & Boost

Prior to the signal entering the distortion module, you can add analog tube saturation with the Preamp Tube slider. Then feed the signal level into the distortion unit as carefully or as recklessly as you like by using the Boost dial. This increases the gain on the incoming signal by up to +40db.

Filtering, Emphasis & Envelope Follower

The smart filter controls allow you to shape your distortion far more musically than more vanilla distortion plugins. Set the filter to High, Low or Band pass modes and then set the Filter Cutoff to your taste. For example, you might only want to emphasise the highest frequencies on a whole track, or maybe just the lowest frequencies for a snarling bass line. The Emphasis dial sets the level of frequency boost, for a more pronounced effect around the cutoff frequency that you’ve chosen. The Envelope Follower dial makes the plugin react to the transients of the signal, creating a rhythmic and musical auto-wah feel.

Oversampling, Output & Ratio

Set the amount of internal oversampling from the default x1 up to x16, allowing users with enough CPU power to limit the unwanted non harmonic artefacts in the processed audio. Use the Output slider to compensate for any gain  boost or reduction caused by the distortion unit, allowing for very accurate comparisons when A/Bing. Use the Dry / Wet ratio control to dial in as much (or as little) of the distortion as you need. Use a conservative ratio for subtle top-end sparkle or push the dial further to bust your bass bins.

Visual Feedback

The live visual meter to the top right of the interface shows exactly what’s happening to the signal as it’s being processed in real time. This allows for accurate monitoring each time you decide to make a change to the parameters. The boundary lines at the top and bottom of the meter show when you’re pushing the output signal beyond 0db, so it’s easy to tell the difference between the characterful distortion of Make Me Scream and the digital peaking of the plugin being driven beyond its limit.

EXPAND

Expand mode allows you to dial in a pristinely clean sounding upward expansion. This increases the volume of signals over the threshold, giving your audio more dynamic range in a transparent way.

PUNCH

Punch mode enhances the transients of your audio to help them bite through the mix. Whether you want to subtly accentuate the high-frequency transients in the mid-channel of your master or bring out serious smack on an individual channel, Punch can handle the task.

IGNITE

Ignite mode allows you to dial in rich harmonic distortion in a dynamic way based on the input signal. Ignite can increase the perceived loudness, power and presence of a channel without the pumping effects of a compressor.

GROW

Grow mode lets you increase the width of the selected frequencies using a psychoacoustic precedence effect. Grow can be applied in a dynamic way meaning only the signal surpassing the threshold is widened. This along with the frequency selection gives you a new realm of movement to inject into your music.

The filter allows you to isolate which frequencies are processed. The frequencies of the signal will glow giving you a better idea of where to set the bands. The filters have a 24dB/octave slope and are combined with an innovative solution to dramatically minimise phase distortion.

The effects in ANIMATE will most likely increase the volume of your audio. The output slider has a level matching pointer to help you adjust the output gain to match the original perceived loudness of your audio before it passed through ANIMATE’s effects. So, when you bypass ANIMATE you can confidently determine whether your settings have a positive or negative impact on your sound.

Corrosion v2 Distortion

Corrosion is a multi-algorithm distortion effect plugin for Mac. It is based on a DSP engine built with 4x oversampling, which uses analog-style anti-aliasing filters for an unusually smooth but robust sound character.

Corrosion includes a wide selection of different distortion algorithms, from classic clippers and folders to very unique curves invented at Sinevibes.

Distortion gain can go up to 24 dB and has a tilt control for natural stereo width effects, plus the plugin also features an exponential gate which can be used for both for noise reduction on analog recordings – as well as more creatively to “chop” audio.

With its special ability to adjust the upsampling filter’s cutoff frequency and mix in the dry input signal processed via a steep high-pass filter, Corrosion delivers a huge variety of sophisticated distortion effects, from subtle boosting and drive all the way to dramatic waveform bending, warping and destruction – and it does so via extremely simple controls.

Spectral Disturbtion is a Multiband Chebyshev Polynomial Distortion Effect.

What Does That Mean?

Distortion is all about adding harmonics to your sound – thats what gives it bite.

Most distortions add odd and/or even harmonics to a signal, but with Chebyshev Polynomials, you can choose specific harmonics – resulting in some super unique, interesting, and weird sounds that can exist somewhere between distortion and pitch shifting.

Chebyshevs are complex formulas, but you don’t need to understand it at all to use Spectral Disturbtion – the interface is intuitive, musical, and easy to use. It centers around an XY pad to ‘perform’ polynomials 1 thru 9 – its expressive and fun to play!

Because its multiband, you can choose different harmonics and different distortion amounts for the bass, mids, and high frequencies. Its capable of some brutal noise, old radio crunch, and can even add weird harmonies to your sound.

To make things even more interesting, its got SLOO to slow down parameter changes, and BOO, which tangles up the internal routing – making it a little more unpredictable – and way more fun to play!

How It Works

Spectral Disturbtion starts by dividing up your sound into 3 frequency bands. Each band is saturated and then put through a Chebyshev Polynomial shaper.

The polynomial number its shaped through is controlled via the central XY pad – just drag the corresponding emoji around to perform it.

The Chebyshev’ed signals are then combined back together and saturated one last time before being run through hi and lo pass filters.

There’s a SLOO knob, which adds a slew to almost every knob and XY parameter on the plugin. This is essentially a ‘time shmear’ – meaning it slows parameter changes down: move a knob, and if the SLOO is high, it can take a full 30 seconds to shmear from point A to B. This is a very powerful performance function, particularly with drones or gestural music.

Then of course, theres BOO. The BOO knob tangles up the internal wires… The multibands send the wrong signals to different Chebyshev shapers. I’m not going to explain what this does exactly – but this knob adds a little chaos and a lot of stereo to your sound!

Grit, oomph, fatness, raw, color, or just that certain something. Sometimes your sounds need a shovel of dirt. Faturator is standing ready to tear whatever you throw at it apart violently, and then gently (but firmly) put it back together fatter and rawer than ever.

Faturator can do everything from adding subtle and warm gritty character to your sounds to slam them into a wall of heavy saturation and digital fuzz. Contrary to many distortion effects, Faturator will preserve the dynamics of your sound and work its wonders on it regardless of input gain.

For the heck of it, it can also color the input to emphasize a specific tone of the sound, or throw some stereo width into the mix. Everything to give you a fast and easy way of making any input come alive.
