Ting is an instrument providing 28 different percussive sounds originating from everyday t(h)ings laying around at home – such as silverware, a sofa, a toy drum, or a pair of car keys. Each sound is carefully multi-sampled and processed with the common goal to be musically playable.

Ting is intended to be a creative tool and a substitute for the ordinary drum and percussion instruments. Altogether ~1500 individual samples are used to make this instrument.

In addition to the sounds, there is an EQ, a room simulator, a reverb, and a compressor.

Trigger outs

The original machines featured analog trigger outputs to control external gear using the internal sequencer. Producers often used this output musically, adding a trademark short pulse sound that became a hallmark of electro music, a sound you can get with Drumazon too.

The DMC-12 has sample controls and FX settings for its 12 individual drum sounds: Sample Start, Volume, Pitch, Pan, Decay, EQ, random settings and controls for the insert and send effects.

New drum samples can be imported via drag and drop or they can be loaded with the onboard sample browser. The DMC-12 library contains 460 classic digital drum sounds.

All effects settings can be accessed on the FX page. There are six different high quality reverb modes, six different delay models, a Flanger, overdrive and a compressor.

The DMC-12 comes with a bespoke selection of factory drum kits of classic drum machines, all instantly loadable. It has eight user drum kits for customised or newly created drum kits.

The mixer page features basic sample and FX controls for all 12 drum sounds at once.

The 12 programmable patterns can be combined to a song. Pattern steps can be created or edited by clicking and dragging with the mouse (TR system) or can be recorded in real time (like in DMX or LinnDrum machines).

Swing and Humanize percentages can be applied to patterns and songs and single patterns can be exported as MIDI files.

From Seattle with love attitude

In the early 1990s, a guitar-heavy new musical category set out to conquer the hearts and ears of the audience. A new generation of artists would unleash distorted guitars, angry drums, and bucketloads of attitude onto an audience that was suddenly keen to rock out again.

Influenced by classic rock of the 1960s and ‘70s, and in opposition to the synthetic aesthetics of the prior decade, bands like Rage Against The Machine, Nirvana, Soundgarden, or Alice in Chains popularized the next incarnation of Rock music. Its playbook is still today the go-to for guitar-heavy hard rocking styles.

Punchy, crisp character

What makes BRUTE special? First and foremost it has been designed, recorded and processed to do one thing really well: Compete with layered walls of distorted guitars while maintaining character and detail. This was a tricky challenge… The solution was to record with three different sets of microphones that emphasize different aspects of the drum sound.

Each of the three microphone sets has a specific sonic purpose:

1. Click/Smack
   • The vintage Sennheiser MD21 from the 1960s emphasizes the attack transients. The source signal was processed with a Manley Voxbox.
2. Grit/Dirt
   • Vintage tube and ribbon overhead mics. This is where the character is captured. All the organic noise and resonances that give a warm, coarse and natural quality.
3. Clean/Nice
   • Modern high-spec Schoeps microphones that capture the sound ‘as is’. With as little colorization and distortion as possible. For an expensive and glossy character.

Using the Smack and Grit controls, you can adjust and blend these different characteristics seamlessly to find the perfect mix:

• Smack: Turns up the clicky microphone to make the sound cut through the mix.
• Grit: Blends between 2) and 3): Basically adjusting how clean or dirty your signal sounds.

Kit Rock

The five drum kits in BRUTE have been composed with specific styles in mind.

• DARK The Stoner: Fat, wide, lower tuning. Slow-roll with this!
• DIRTY The Punk: short and punchy for aggressive double-time fun.
• TIGHT The Crossover: More expression and detail, using e.g. a high-tuned piccolo snare.
• NOBLE The Radio Rocker: Full-bodied, refined and punchy, for alternative anthems.
• PRIME The Mainstreamer: Superb and well balanced for sold-out stadiums and rock royalty.

Mix Presets shape the overall sound by swapping out an entire multi-bus effect chain for every channel under the hood. Saves you time and nerves wrestling with the bus system of your DAW.

Mix Presets:

• Gentle: Polishing and pleasant, use this for ballads or power pop.
• Slam: For that garage sound, too much compression. Pumping & cranked.
• Bite: Less bass, more lower mids, aggressive. Super fast punk anthem anyone?
• Crush: Distortion and saturation, think tape machine and valve distortion. Fast FOO’d, if you know what I mean.
• Bounce: More warmth, modern, Hip-hop-inspired, Rick Rubin might enjoy this one, if he’d ever touch a plug-in. Sound-designed by Richie Beretta in NYC.
• Wide: Stadium-Rock, big and expensive, more subtleties, less punch.

Mininn Drum is a drum machine plugin, an adaptation of the Linn Drum.

We created three different sound ROMs with a selection of different sounds to get a global approach of the famous drum machine. The ROM 1 is a selection closer to the LM-1, the ROM 2 closer to the 9000 Version, and the ROM 3 is a custom adaptation of the 80’s drum sounds.

We also added a custom pad with the possibility to embed an additional drum or bass or any sample in your preset. You can modify each sound separately, change the tune, the volume and the panoramic.

The Linn LM-1 Drum Computer (conceived by Roger Linn) was the first drum machine to use digital samples of acoustic drums.

A lot of artists and bands like Human League, Michael Jackson, Prince, Kraftwerk, Phil Collins, Genesis, Herbie Hancock and a lot of others used this drum machine on their records.

We adapt these sounds on a new instrument to offer the possibility to get the sounds of these rare drum machines embed in your setup.

BFD3 introduces modelled tom resonance and bleed which provides a natural-sounding ‘glue’ which blends the sound of the kit together. The modelling varies with the characteristics and tuning of any combination of drums – something that cannot be achieved only by using samples. BFD3 also includes improved dynamics matching across drums and a swell-modelling algorithm for more realistic cymbal washes.

These features can be applied to your existing BFD libraries if you’re upgrading (and to any expansion packs you buy in future).

Reel Machines is a collection of four mint-condition drum machines and a Simmons electronic drum kit from the eighties. All instruments were recorded on analog tape using some of the finest recording gear in the world. Each kit also includes actual plate reverb and real room ambience you can blend in for maximum sonic possibilities.

Reel Machines is a collection of the most iconic electronic drum sounds of the 80s. Unlike many sample libraries that simply record a machine’s output, we recorded the instruments through a variety of analog tape machines for added warmth and punch. To make it even more special, each instrument includes a real room ambience as well as vintage plate reverb that you can blend in to fit your needs.
