1959

1959. HIDDEN ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC PIANO

1959 by Sampleson is based on the Electro-Acoustic Piano patent (lifetime expired) registered in 1959. We brought it to life using spectral modeling. Sound can be described as a CP80-like but a bit more tuned due to the fewer number of strings.

1959 AUDIO DEMOS

1959 can be described as RAW. Despite the reverb included, 1959 is minded to be heavily processed with anything you want. It will melt perfectly with choruses, flangers, phasers, etc. Demos were recorded with and without effects (factory free FXs included in GarageBand).

THE EXPERIENCE OF RECREATING A FORGOTTEN ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC PIANO PATENT.

Does it sound like the original one? We don’t know, because it has never been built. And we won’t build it (at the moment). But the experience of bringing to life an instrument that never existed, was super-exciting. The resulting sound of this virtual instrument is warm, clean and bright. The expressiveness of the piano action we emulated gives it a nice and wide range of timbres. From warm lows to metallic shines on higher velocities.

The original patent proposes an idea about string vibration direction that improves the pickup effectiveness.

Reed200 V2

WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 2

Our main modeling engine was rebuilt, and now it allows us to do thing we had in mind for more than a year.
The result is a modeled instrument that is not distinguishable from a real one.

Spectral modeled Reed-EP
The first Spectral Modeled reed EP based on real samples entirely rebuilt by modeling. Offering the real sound and feel of the real instrument in just 45MB.

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Spectral modeled full range reed EP
  • No extra purchases needed (like Kontakt, UVI, etc) or any other 3rd. party player.
  • Ready to be loaded into major DAWs (Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, BitWig, Nuendo, FLstudio, etc)
  • No layer switching (Smooth velocity curve).
  • Phaser, Reverb and Color adjusment.
  • Releases and velocity controls.
  • Win 32/64 bits and Mac VST/AU/Standalone versions included
  • Just 30MB installed.
  • No library installation required.
  • No online activation required.

SPECTRAL MODELED REED-BASED EP
Reed200 is our second spectral modeled instrument. We can say it’s all that we dreamed about. Clean and responsive timbre made out of the real model. Stacking up to 600 pure sinewaves, we achieved a perfect and accurate timbre reproducing the sound that a reed-ep generates on the line output. (Also we included a cabinet and drive emulator)

As in our Markus 88, we did most of the jobs manually. Despite the deep spectrum analysis we used to decode the timbre DNA, we focused on recreating the real feel of pushing down a key in a real model.

THE REED TIMBRE RECREATION
We discovered the Reed timbre is kind of unique. After doing our first modeled electric piano, Markus 88, we can tell electric reeds has some characteristics on the spectrum that makes it more dirty and punchy.

What we’ve learned is that the main difference between tines and reed is the perfect octaves harmonics (meaning 12 semitones up, 24, 36, 48, etc). Envelope for those partials are quite louder than in a tine-based EP and this is one of the main secrets of reed-ep timbre

You can play a bit with this characteristic with our “Color” slider on our main interface.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SPECTRAL MODELING?
Every sound in nature can be decomposed into simple sine waves. From a bird tweet to a trumpet note. Spectral modeling is the process of analyzing and creating a sound by stacking simple sine waves.

According to Julius O. Smith (Standford) Spectral modeling provides a sound representation much closer to the perception of sound by the brain because your ear and brain are in fact spectral decoders.

  • Ready to be loaded into major DAWs (Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, BitWig, Nuendo, FLstudio, etc)
  • Win 32/64 bits and Mac VST/AU/Standalone versions included
  • No online activation required.

No AAX version is included. (ProTools)

Downtown Grand Piano

About the Piano

The acoustic grand piano was sampled using a total of seven microphones placed in five distinct locations to capture the best of the piano. The microphone positions used are as follows:

  • Bass: A condenser microphone placed near the bass strings.
  • Hammers: Stereo condenser microphones positioned in front of the hammers.
  • Main: Ribbon microphones arranged in stereo in front of the soundboard.
  • Room: Condenser microphones positioned six feet away from the piano.
  • Back: A condenser microphone placed behind the piano seat.
  • Each microphone position has its own volume knob in the plugin.

City recordings: To capture the sounds of the city, we use a stereo recorder to capture various sounds such as airplanes, squares, public works, motorcycles, trains, etc. From these recordings, we selected the best samples to be used as convolution reverb, ultimately creating a plugin that integrates the piano with the cityscape.

In total there are 44 city samples that you can use as convolution reverb.

Presets: Downtown Grand Piano comes with 39 presets divided into the categories: ambient, city-based, and piano. You can also create your own categories and presets within the panel. The ambient presets were created by removing the dry piano signal and experimenting with the wet signal of the convolution reverb. The city-based presets were created by blending the piano and convolution reverb signals to generate a hybrid sound. And the piano presets were exclusively designed using the samples from the acoustic grand piano.

Features

  • Recorded at 44.1 kHz / 24 bit with seven microphones
  • 6 gradual velocity layers for the piano
  • Control for the piano’s hammer release
  • The grand piano is made with 1800 samples
  • 44 city sounds for convolution reverb

MODEL T SOUND

This was one of the most affordable and common eletromechanical piano produced in the late 70’s. Based on reeds, it generates a warm, bell-like but dark tone. It does not includes sustain pedal, due his simple mechanics and easily replaceable pieces. But we included the option to activate the sustain pedal on our modeled recreation.

Also we recreated mechanics sound, very present in every sound. (Controlable individually on our instrument)

AN 80S CLASSIC

Late in the 70’s was launched a simple yet powerful electromechanical piano. Manufactured betwen 1977 and 1982, this classic electr-mechanical piano was one of the simplest EPs in the history. Based on reeds, ands sticky pads, the it offers a “Reed” like sound but with a much more present mechanical noises due the proximity of the mechanics to the keyboard itself. It does not offers a sustain pedal or volume/tone controls. Despite this his tone makes extremely effect-friendly as many of the vintage EPs

Deeper sound design: Detailed control over your piano sounds – when you need it.

Underneath its simple layout and quick controls, Augmented GRAND PIANO offers all the flexibility and customization you need to truly make it your own. From sound layers to intricate modulation, it’s all right here.

It all starts with Augmented GRAND PIANO’s sound engines. Two layers, each containing two engines, for a total of 4 fully-customizable sound sources. With these 4 sound sources, you can assign up to 2 sample engines and 2 synthesis engines, then adjust details like filter cutoff and envelope times.

Like you’ve never heard it before

These aren’t just high-quality samples. Augmented GRAND PIANO’s library features detailed recordings of a late ‘80s Steinway Model D, widely considered to be the greatest grand piano of all time.

And that’s only the beginning. The library features familiar & authentic articulations suited to both classical & contemporary music, but it also contains a variety of unique outside-the-box recordings. Piano played with ping pong balls, with a bow, with paper in between the strings. We also went one step further by processing these sounds through tape machines, pedals, studio gear, and more.

Even before morphing, modulation, or FX, Augmented GRAND PIANO ranges from authentic piano to sounds that simply aren’t possible with the traditional instrument.

A perfect production piano library:  Evocative & professional piano sound in seconds.

Augmented GRAND PIANO comes loaded with over 300 mix-ready sounds, sorted by style, timbre, and sound designer. Unlock the inspiring piano sounds you’ve always wanted, from emotive film score tones to otherworldly video game ambience, razor-sharp synth-infused sounds to delicate modern ballad textures.

Addictive Keys: Electric Grand

CP-80 Electric Grand Piano – Acoustic. Electric. Inspired

With three distinct sonic characteristics captured in seven different ways, you’ll have no shortage of great sounds at your fingertips.

About Electric Grand

This unique instrument combines three distinct characters (acoustic hammers, direct line output, and amplified output) captured in seven different ways. When combined with the powerful Addictive Keys engine, Electric Grand becomes an extraordinarily inspiring instrument that is suitable for anything from indie rock and pop to house to R’n’B ballads.

Its unmistakable sound can be heard on classic albums from U2, Peter Gabriel and Abba, as well as contemporary artists like keane and Mike Snow.”

The Instrument and its Presets

Yamaha CP-80 Electric Grand Piano:

Our Electric Grand instrument features a meticulously sampled Yamaha CP-80, an electro-acoustic instrument that was produced from the late 1970s through the mid 1980s.

Electric grand pianos have hammers and strings just like acoustic pianos. However, unlike acoustic pianos, these pianos have pickups under the strings that feed the sound to an amplifier—just like an electric guitar or bass. The combination of acoustic, electric, and amplified sources let you craft unique piano-like textures that that are more harmonically complex and interesting than a typical acoustic piano.

The Addictive Keys engine plays back the instrument with incredible detail and the advanced studio effects accurately model the tremolo and tone controls of the original instrument. In addition, it lets you push the sonic boundaries beyond what the original instrument could accomplish.

We recorded the CP-80 in several ways to maximize options for our outstanding team of sound designers.

Direct (Line Out):

  • We recorded the direct output cleanly as well as through a well-maintained vintage Roland Dimension-D hardware chorus.

Amplified Output:

  • We played the CP-80 through a Music Man 112 RD tube combo amp with three close microphones and one stereo ambience microphone set further back to capture the room’s sound.

Acoustic Strings:

  • Although rarely heard on albums, we loved the acoustic sound of the CP-80’s strings and recorded it in stereo.

These seven different recording setups gave our sound designers the ability to craft all kinds of amazing presets. You too can easily create inspiring presets that are uniquely yours.

We Recorded Using the Following:

Music Man 112 RD combo amp (Close Mic):

  • Telefunken U47 Tube Condenser
  • Coles 4038 Ribbon
  • Shure SM57 Dynamic

Ambient (Room) Recording:

Direct Output:

  • Clean Line Output
  • Line Output through Roland Dimension D

Acoustic Strings:

  • Sela T25 Stereo Microphone

Features

MetaPiano

Spectral Modelled Grand Piano

MetaPiano is the first Spectral Modeled Grand Piano out there. It was built upon real sound captures from a Japanese Concert Grand Piano, and meticulously rebuilt by math algorithms. It’s so realistic you won’t believe it is not the real instrument. And so lightweight you can email it.

The Process

It all started with the search for the perfect piano to analyze its sound. Sampleson fell in love with a Japanese Concert Grand Piano and deeply recorded it, capturing every nuance to feed our spectral analysis with high-quality audio sources. A peaceful studio located in Patagonia gave them the noiseless scenario they needed to capture crystal-clear waveforms with top industry Mics and Preamps. Then the real process begins. A custom-made algorithm disassembles the audio and extracts the main characteristics for each note and noise. Finally, their Spectral Engine 2.0 generates the sound every time you play it, making every note unique and irreplaceable since it’s created on the fly.

Hyper-detailed Spectral Modeled Grand Piano

MetaPiano was made upon Spectral Modeling, a technique that provides realistic sounds since it’s based on real samples and not hypothetical approaches like physical modelling.
It sounds real because it is real: sound is created the same way in nature (stacking simple sinewaves together). This is why it feels organic and warm.

Sampleson mapped more than 64 groups of timbre components (releases, hammer, key noises, main timbre, resonance, etc) and recreated them by Spectral Modeling, archiving a realistic and warm sound in only 60 MB, and with very low CPU usage.

Full Decays (No Loops)

Thanks to the Spectral Engine, MetaPiano reproduces the full length of the real notes without loops. You’ll hear decays for a minute and more on lower notes.

No Velocity Sweeping

MetaPiano is built upon the full dynamics of the real instrument. There’s no velocity switching because there are no layers or regions or anything that old sampling techniques needs.

  • Spectral modelled 88 notes grand piano.
  • 60MB.

Lounge Lizard EP-4

Authentic Tone, Action and Feel.

The Lounge Lizard EP-4 plug-in delivers authentic vintage electric piano sounds in an everything-you-need package.

In the Studio

When time matters, simply pick from more than 100 custom electric piano presets. But when sound exploration is on the program, players will dig the real-time controls over hammer hardness, tine colour and decay, damper noise, and pickup placement for an unsurpassed level of customization.

Live on Stage

Gigging musicians will appreciate Lounge Lizard’s small memory footprint, instant preset recalls, and stability. Furthermore, the huge library of classic electric piano sounds as well as the complete selection of effects makes it easy to build a set list and get the perfect tone for each song.

Alive Beneath Your Fingers

There is something quite immersive when a connection develops between the player and the instrument. Whether it’s the perfectly smooth velocity progression or the interactive reaction to your performance, Lounge Lizard makes that connection happen.

Beyond the Electric Piano

Lounge Lizard achieves convincing electric piano tones with less than twenty synth parameters. That’s a quite a feat by itself, but pushed further, these parameters reveal a realm of other tones. Organs, bells, chimes, leads are all featured in the preset library’s Experimental folder.

Custom Tones

Even though famous players shared the same brand and models, they were all achieving their own signature sound. Nevertheless, that usually meant spending many hours under the hood with screwdrivers, wrenches, or even a solder iron. What’s fun with Lounge Lizard is that whether you’re looking to emulate a particular sound or simply find your own, all those tweaks are just a few knob turns away!

  • NEW Factory Library – The completely renewed factory library features the classic electric piano sounds as well as over 200 gig- and mix-ready custom electric pianos making good use of the compressor, equalizer, and multi-effect processor.
  • NEW Compressor and Equalizer – These new additions are perfect to add punch and definition to your sound, letting you cut through any dense mix or stage.
  • NEW Character Control – The new Character control provides five classic studio and stage signal path emulations – that’s the cabinet, pre-amp, microphone, and recorder chain that follows the piano’s output – to easily snug fit your electric piano part into your track.
  • NEW Limiter – The new output limiter protects your ears and monitors during experimentation with the piano’s physical modelling parameters while providing a maximum of distortion-free dynamics.
  • NEW Streamlined Interface – Redesigned from the ground up, the new interface now divides Lounge Lizard EP-4 into three panels: Play presents shortcuts to the main piano and effect parameters including bypass switches for quick edits; Edit lets you get under the hood and voice the piano to taste; while FX supplies equalizer, compressor, multi-effect, and reverb processors for final shaping duties.
  • NEW Bank and Program Manager – Lounge Lizard EP-4’s new manager allows for simple and efficient organization, backup, and sharing of your sounds.
  • UPDATED Overhauled Effects – Reinvigorated, polished, and tuned especially for the electric piano, Lounge Lizard EP-4’s multi-effect processor features our best sounding chorus, delay, phaser, flanger, distortion, notch filter, wah-wah, auto-wah, and reverb to date!
  • NEW Native 64-bit Audio Unit (AU) and VST Plug-ins – Lounge Lizard EP-4 now runs in native 64-bit on Mac OS X and Windows making it compatible with the latest sequencers.

AIR Legends Pack

This Bundle Features Xpand!2, DB-33 and Vacuum Classic!

Xpand!2

Four on the Floor

Xpand!2 is a multitimbral workstation offering four active sound slots, or parts, per patch. Each part is provided with its own MIDI channel, Note Range (Zone), Mix, Arpeggiation, Modulation, and Effects settings—an excellent method for creating individual parts.

Harnessing the four parts together to build one amazing Patch is where Xpand!2 reveals its true power. The Voice Mode for each part can be set to polyphonic or monophonic.

Polyphonic parts can have up to 64 voices; monophonic parts offer First, Last, Highest, or Lowest priority making it easy to designate a bass, lead, or solo instrument.

    • This is an Audio Plugin – It REQUIRES a HOST Software
    • THIS PRODUCT REQUIRES THE USE OF ILOK

MAIN FEATURES:

  • Four-channel multitimbral operation
  • Up to four stereo instrument parts per patch
  • Up to 64 voices per part; Mono or Poly voice modes
  • Smart Knobs provide intuitive sound editing
  • Easy Edit Knobs control the entire patch at once
  • Two digital effects processors; 50 editable effect types
  • Individual arpeggiation control for each part
  • Multiple sound generation engines:
  • Subtractive Synthesis
  • FM Synthesis
  • Tonewheels
  • Sample Playback
  • 2500+ total presets

Sounds Galore

Using everything from wavetables and FM synthesis to sample playback, the expert sound design team at Air Music Tech has carefully created thousands of ready-to-play Xpand!2 patches.

Creating your own is easy, too. Parts can be quickly browsed and are conveniently sorted into 29 categories, offering a simple path to find just what you’re looking for.

Smart Knobs and Easy Edits

Six smart knobs are provided for custom-tweaking your Xpand!2 sounds. Each knob changes function depending on the part selected, offering hands-on control of the most critical sound elements.

Select the Easy mode, and all six knobs now control all four of the common parts in a patch simultaneously for quickly performing those crucial edits.

And of course, all of your edits can be saved for instant recall.

Major Modulation

Express yourself with powerful performance features! Pitch Bend wheel and Aftertouch (pressure) modulation assignments can be made independently for each part.

Modulation rates can be tempo sync’d or free-wheeling. Numerous modulation destinations are provided, and the WAVE destination parameters are different from part to part, providing unique Xpand!2 sound-shaping capabilities.

Advanced Arpeggiation

Keep things moving with advanced arpeggiation. Simply set the Rate—including dotted and triplet values—and then select the Mode.

Using the Latch switch allows the arpeggiator to continue to play, even when your hands leave the keyboard. Each Xpand!2 part is provided with its own arpeggiator.

Many parts such as Action Pads and Loops will automatically activate the Arpeggiator, as it forms an integral part of the sound.

Dynamic Effects Duo

Xpand!2 includes two independent effect processors with fifty studio-grade effects, ranging from rich reverbs to the mind-bending Chaos Delay.

When selecting a new effect type, Xpand!2 will instantly change the edit knob functions to provide accurate control of every effect. The output of FX1 can be fed into the input of FX2 to create advanced “cascade-style” effects.

DB-33

There are very few truly unique instrumental sounds in the world of music. Sounds so distinct, so compelling, so immediately identifiable and genuine that you just have to have it.

Nothing else will do. “Close” won’t do. “Almost” won’t cut it. “Approximately” will instantly brand you as a shallow imposter.

One of these really great, unmistakable instrumental sounds is the tonewheel organ, such as the classic Hammond B3. The Hammond B3 was used by many great rock, soul and jazz artists in the 1960’s to 1980’s.

Unforgettable musicians like Stevie Winwood, Jon Lord of Deep Purple, Jimmy Smith and Richard “Groove” Holmes.

Great music, great sound, created on an absolutely great instrument. That’s what you want. And that’s what DB-33 Tonewheel Organ gives you.

MAIN FEATURES:

  • AIR-proprietary vintage organ model
  • Custom designed, extra-realistic convolution rotary cabinet, also usable as a stand-alone effect
  • Tube overdrive emulation
  • Includes over 120 presets

DB-33 Tonewheel Organ is a virtual organ that recreates the sounds and controllability of classic tonewheel organs such as the Hammond B3, and the rotary-speaker cabinets they are often played through.

It includes 122 preset sounds plus an extra-realistic convolution rotary cabinet and tube overdrive emulation.

The rotary-speaker cabinet can also be used as an effect in its own right on an audio track.

Vacuum Classic

Vacuum Classic is a monophonic vintage synthesizer featuring Vacuum Tube Synthesis with vacuum tube circuit modeling that perfectly captures the crunchy, warm sound of the analog era.

With analog oscillators, multiple filters and envelopes and built-in audio effects, Vacuum lets you dive deep into subtractive synthesis to recreate those sought-after analog sounds from the 70s and 80s.

Tweak the switches, knobs and dials to program anything from basses, leads, pads or unique sound effects.

Vacuum gives you TWO Vacuum Tube Oscillators. A nice touch with the four available wave shapes is that rather than just picking one, Vacuum lets you ‘morph’ between them. The output of the oscillators goes through a mixer, where you can apply drive/distortion and ring modulation, before being passed through high- and low pass filters.

Included are a wide range of pre-sets designed by highly-acclaimed sound designers Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden. Covering everything from Leads, Pads, Bass, Arpeggios, Percussive, and FX sounds this library provides instant inspiration for anyone to tweak to their contentment.

The filters provide a smooth sound, but each offers a saturation control if you prefer a more aggressive sound. A really nice touch can be found in the ‘age’ knobs, where you can set an amount of pitch drift to apply to the oscillators, or the quantity of dust that might make the synth sound old and noisy.

The Age function provides Drift and Dust controls adjusting the age from oscillator drift to crackling controls to slightly inaccurate keyboard triggering/pitch for that truly authentic hardware experience sought out by Synth lovers.

This is one of the most realistic emulations you’ll hear anywhere!

Vacuum also offers a number of modulation options, including two envelopes, which can be set to retrigger in the settings page. There’s also an on-board arpeggiator.

For a synth plugin, Vacuum sounds surprisingly unlike a synth plugin, exhibiting a real, dirty and analog quality.

The slick vintage synth-styled interface pays homage to some of the best vintage tube synths of the past, powerful and easy to use.

Addictive Keys: Mark One

Warm and Intimate Tones

Start playing this warm, beautiful instrument and chances are good that you’ll find yourself still playing it several hours later.

About Mark One

Our Mark One Instrument is based on a Fender Rhodes Mk. 1 electric piano. This king of electric pianos is played through a vintage tube combo amp and captured by rare vintage mics for a sublime sound. The tone can go from a smooth enthralling caress to a searing, crunchy sound that cuts through the densest mix.

The Instrument and its Presets – Fender Rhodes Mk. 1 Stage Piano:

Our Mark One instrument is based on a Fender Rhodes Mk. 1 electric piano. The Rhodes Mk. 1 has been the most popular electric piano for more than four decades and is heard on countless hit records. Rhodes pianos can vary in sound, and this particular instrument was selected for its unmistakable warmth and intimacy.

While the instrument’s line output can be recorded “direct,” it is often played through an amplifier to add some crunch and character. For this recording, we used a MusicMan 112 RD Fifty 1×12″. Different recording setups can be mixed and matched to give you endless sound design options!

With the tube combo set up in a large recording room, vintage microphones was positioned at both close and far away perspective capturing the amp close-up and with natural ambience. To add variety, three mics were positioned next up to the speaker; a dynamic, a tube condenser and a ribbon microphone. One floor and one room microphone setup were used for the option of adding depth and ambience to the recordings.

In addition to the acoustical recordings, two line signals were also recorded: One “direct” through high-voltage DI box and another through the classic Roland Dimension D analog stereo chorus.

We Recorded Using the Following:

Music Man 112 RD combo amp (Close Mic):

  • Telefunken U47 Tube Condenser
  • Coles 4038 Ribbon
  • Shure SM57 Dynamic

Ambient (Room) Recording:

Direct Output:

  • Clean Line Output
  • Line Output through Roland Dimension D

Acoustic Strings:

  • Sela T25 Stereo Microphone

Stage EP

Five Classic EP Tones – A Suite of Sweet EPs

Stage EP includes multi-layer sample sets collected from the world’s most impressive electric pianos! The AIR engineering team painstakingly sampled each electric piano model in Germany to make sure they captured the natural beauty of the instrument’s acoustic characteristics.

Rhodes: A sample of the legendary, classic EP instrument that was ultra-innovative for its time. Using the “struck tuning fork” method to generate its sound, the original instrument has a metal tone bar that adds resonance and sustain to create a full sound with a distinct growl.

Rhodes Hot: The same base tones of the standard Rhodes model, but run with additional gain to heat up the signal and amplify the sweet harmonic overtones of the instrument.

Suitcase: Part of the classic Rhodes family, the suitcase was a revolution in sound that has been heard on countless records from the 70s. The suitcase added an 80W amp and an exaggerated bell tone from the enhanced pickups of the era—great for classic jazz or funk sounds.

Wurli: Based on one of the most highly regarded and legendary EPs in history, the Wurli model for Stage EP is based on the “struck strings and reed” design that gives it a sweet, vibraphone-like tone.

Pianet: A soft and understated model based on classic “leather on metal” design that gives a distinct vibe, different from other models. Perfect for soft and articulate passages that can capture the imagination and soothe your soul.

MARKUS 88

SPECTRAL MODELED ELECTRIC PIANO

We decoded and analyzed a vintage electric piano sinewaves spectrum for every note and every velocity, and recreated it manually. When you play a note on Markus, the exact same sound for the original instrument will be generated (no samples involved)

And we did it manually. Every single harmonic was tuned by ear. Like in acoustic piano tuning, the final touch is always made manually, and no tuning software or algorithm is able to replace that.

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • 88 Notes EP.
  • No player (like Kontakt, UVI, etc) or any other 3rd. party host needed.
  • Ready to be loaded into major DAWs (Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, BitWig, Nuendo, FLstudio, etc)
  • No layer switching (Smooth velocity curve).
  • Recreated from real electric piano sound spectrum
  • Preamp, Reverb and Phaser FX included.
  • Bells and Releases controls.
  • Adjustable non-linear velocity (changes harmonic behavior)

DECODING THE ELECTRIC PIANO GENOME

Every sound in nature is a complex spectrum of harmonics. The combination of those harmonics makes every sound unique and easy to be identified by humans. Doing the reverse engineering for finding the harmonics that makes a tine-based electric piano sound like a tine-based electric piano is a complex task. We disassembled tine-based electric piano timbre into the minimal parts a sound can be split. And reassembled into a fully expressive virtual instrument.

WHAT’S NEW ON VERSION 1.5? This is more than an update.

We redesigned the entire harmonic spectrum and behaviors. Bells are more natural, low range is darker and overall velocity responses were improved.

Update Features:

  • MacOS Catalina ready.
  • New harmonic spectrum.
  • Improved response on low velocities.
  • Improved inharmonics on low frequencies.
  • Re-designed release noises.
  • Fixed channel’s gain fluctuations.
  • CPU efficiency fixes.
  • Win 32/64 bits and Mac VST/AU/Standalone versions included
  • NOT COMPATIBLE WITH PRO TOOLS
  • Any MAC OS
  • Just 25MB installed.
  • No library installation required.
  • No online activation required.
  • No 3rd party software/player needed.
  • Compatible with major DAWs.

The Instrument and its Presets

Steinway Model D Grand Piano:

Our Studio Grand features a Steinway Model D Concert Grand piano. At 8′ 11 3/4″ (274cm) in length, this majestic instrument is the overwhelming choice of the world’s greatest pianists. More than ten Steinway Grand Pianos were auditioned before finding the one with the most desirable character: a crystal clear and open timbre with a perfectly balanced resonance.

We approached Studio Grand with production in mind. We found that fitting a grand piano in a mix can be hard and often results in a compromise of the sound quality in order to make it fit with the other instruments and vocals. By offering the exact recording setup in Addictive Keys and the option of mixing and matching microphones, Studio Grand is sure to fit nicely into any production style.

Studio Grand was recorded in a large recording studio at the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation. The studio is famous for being extremely quiet and for having a controlled acoustic ambience; for such a large room the reverberation still sounds tight and airy which is a rare combination and the perfect condition for recording a grand piano.

The recordings were done using rare vintage tube and ribbon microphones capturing the instrument at several different perspectives. From close up perspective with microphones next to the soundboard to far away perspective with natural room ambience. The end result is a warm and vibrant sound that goes from intimate to larger-than-life. The vintage microphones used were hand picked from the studios impressive collection.

We Recorded Using the Following:

  • Close (Mono): RCA 6203
  • Mid (Stereo Wide): Neumann M250
  • Ambient (Stereo Wide): Neumann M269

Colorwoods Piano

Colorwoods Piano is an acoustic piano with a natural and serene taste but also powerful and crisp when you push it to the limit.

It is based on an upright piano and was recorded with five gradual velocities.

Microphone positions

To get a full sound, we used 6 microphones to record this piano: a centered large-diaphragm condenser microphone, a pair of small-diaphragm condensers in XY, another pair of small-diaphragm condensers in the front position, and a dynamic microphone.

When all mic positions are active simultaneously, the sound is super full and complete. But it is also possible to control each microphone position with an individual gain knob.

This is why Colorwoods Piano can have a soft and relaxed sound with the selection of some microphones, or it can also become more powerful with the most potent microphones.

Controls of Colorwoods Piano

  • Control for each microphone position: gain knobs for the four positions of the six microphones (two stereo and two singulars).
  • Envelope: Attack, sustain, decay, and release.
  • Settings: Gain, curve selection, mode (polyphonic, monophonic, legato), gain, pan, ambience, and glide (for legato).
  • Tone: High range and width.
  • Wave FX: LFO with different waveforms and depth/speed controls.
  • Lowpass and highpass filter.

Delphi Piano 2

Introducing Delphi Piano series, volume 2: Knightsen Boxgrand

A marvelous musical rarity with an untamed spirit. In this series, we explore vintage and classic instruments as portals into new worlds of creative sound design possibility. This time, our focus is on massive, emotionally charged textures that overflow with bombast, while ornately enriched with intricate detail and a distinctive character. It’s not just another ordinary old piano; this one possesses a wild side that pushes the boundaries of sonic exploration outward a little further than we usually go.

In this library, we explore new forms of sonic pareidolia, simultaneously conjuring illusions and revealing the ghosts in the signal. Our goal is to preserve its beauty, flaws and deeper untapped potential in an eternally playable form. Next, we reshape the source recordings into new and complex evolving tones, textures, movements, patterns, abstractions and distortions. It is a collection of playable soundscapes, and transcendent leads, with a wide selection of custom presets and options to transform the sound in an endless variety of new ways that we’re sure will surprise and inspire you.
