Diva

The Spirit Of Analogue

DIVA – Dinosaur Impersonating Virtual Analogue Synthesizer

The oscillators, filters and envelopes closely model components found in some of the great monophonic and polyphonic synthesizers of yesteryear. Modules can be mixed and matched so you can build hybrids, but what sets DIVA apart is the sheer authenticity of the analogue sound. This comes at the cost of quite a high CPU-hit, but we think it was worth it.

Diva is the first native software synth that applies methods from industrial circuit simulators (e.g. PSpice) in realtime. The behaviour of zero-delay-feedback filters when pushed to the limit clearly demonstrates the advantages of this groundbreaking approach.

Check out more than 1200 presets. If your computer can handle it, try them in “Divine” mode.

MAIN FEATURES

  • Authentic, unrivaled analogue sound
  • Up to 40% less CPU-hit than version 1.0
  • Multithreading support for modern CPUs – more polyphony, less overload
  • Even bigger library of gorgeously organic presets
  • Resizable editor window, alternative skins available shortly
  • The essence of 7 or 8 vintage synths for about 1% of the cost
  • …and so much more!

Filters
This is where a LOT of Diva’s magic happens – Diva’s zero-delay-feedback filters set a very high standard of authenticity.

Each filter type closely models a classic analogue hardware filter (or two): You can already choose between Ladder, Cascade, Multi-Mode, Bite… and more are planned!

Envelopes
Two envelopes, one for the output amp and the other general-purpose. Again, there is a choice of several different models based on classic hardware synthesizers.

The characteristics of amp and filter envelopes within the same synthesizer often differ. This important detail has also been carefully modeled.

Mix & Match
All modules in the upper rack can be replaced – send any of the oscillator models through any filter model to any amp / envelope model.

The rack also offers highpass filter models (pre or post main filter) or feedback from output to input.

Effects

  • 3 Analogue chorus
  • 2 Analogue phaser
  • Plate reverb
  • Stereo analogue delay
  • Rotary speaker emulations.

The two effects are arranged in series – you can even use two plate reverbs, one after the other.

Modifiers
Modulation processors: Rectify, quantize, multiply, invert, lag, add modulation sources before using them.

There are also several modulation options here that aren’t available in all the main panels (e.g. filter resonance, feedback).

Trimmers
Diva shows her most esoteric side here as she saucily flashes those voice activity indicators!

As well as detuning individual voices, a voice-specific offset is applied to cutoff, envelope times, pulse width and glide.

Scope
Every synth needs an oscilloscope! Diva has a no-nonsense scope that only requires two knobs – frequency and scale.

Patches
Diva comes loaded with over 1,200 presets sorted into various categories . Select a folder from the bottom left panel, then a preset from the main area.

Scenic Vibrations

Picturesque Tonal Resonations Synth – Unique Scenic Sounds

An Organic Synth
The sound of Scenic Vibrations is primarily organic in nature – with intriguing harmonics and natural swells of intensity. But at the same time, it is not wholly familiar to the ear. This dual-character makes Scenic Vibrations fit well with both your synthetic sound design and real instrumentation.

As well as a companion synth, Scenic Vibrations can take the lead too. Melodic lines played with Scenic Vibrations are ear-catching and thoroughly unique sounding.

Surface Transducer
The 30 instruments that make up Scenic Vibrations are created from a set of recordings of metal objects resonating with a surface transducer. Objects such as sheets of metal, koto strings, bass guitar strings and suspended steel frames were used. A surface transducer is a small electronic device that can be placed onto any resonant surface. When a signal is sent to the device, it causes the surface to audibly vibrate and resonate; in essence, turning the object into a speaker. Each sample is roughly 20 seconds long and has been tuned and made into a seamless loop.

30 Categorised Instruments
Each sample has been made into a separate ‘instrument’ in Mirage. This means you can control each aspect separately, and layer up different sounds in Mirage’s three-layer architecture. These instruments are conveniently categorised based on timbre.

  • The first category is called Basic, which contains waveform-like samples. These samples don’t have a massive amount of movement in them. They are the bedrock sounds, perfect for blending with other layers.
  • Secondly is the Core category. This is the largest. It features a set of tonal resonations, most of which are musically consonant. Here you will find fluttering vibrations, swelling oscillations and tonal hums.
  • Lastly is the Dark category. This contains sounds that are more edgy, experimental and sometimes dissonant. These are an excellent component for creating dark ambiences and tension.

Customisable Sound Design
It is easy to create custom sounds or edit presets with Scenic Vibrations. Mirage, the VST/AU engine that powers it, features a three-layer core. On each layer, you can load up one of the 30 instruments and control its volume envelope, EQ, LFO, pitch and much more. By blending together multiple sounds, you can create new timbres. And with the ‘randomise all instruments’ button, you can quickly trial a whole new set of instruments and see what fits in your track.

Sound Design by Si Begg, utilising two decades of experience
Si Begg has been working in the music industry for over two decades. His work recently has been in part on wide-ranging scores for film, TV and trailers, including Netflix show Lovesick. His technical skill and ear for usable sound design shine through in Scenic Vibrations. The sampling, editing and lots of the presets are made by him. Scenic Vibrations already plays a part in his professional work.

Over 100 presets
Scenic Vibrations comes with everything you need for adding production-ready sounds to your track. Just use the preset browser to try some of the included 107 factory presets which were designed my Si Begg and Sam Windell. There are many types of sounds among these. Including suspenseful keys, dark ambiences, fluttering pads and droning bass-pads. Once you find the sound you like, it is possible to further customise it with Mirage’s easy-to-use interface.

Specifications

  • 107 presets, saved as separate mirage-scenic-vibrations files

  • Mirage sample-based synthesis engine included

  • Scenic Vibrations Mirage library (closed format mdata file) which features 30 instruments

  • ~77MB file download

What is Mirage?

Mirage is our sample-based synthesis engine. It is a VST/AU synthesiser plugin that features a powerful set of controls for processing our custom sample libraries, such as Phoenix or Wraith (currently libraries can only be made with our internal tools).

Mirage is designed for rapid, flexible sound design and for ease-of-use.

A rack of built-in Effects

Another technique that sound designers use to shape the character of sounds is by applying effects. Mirage features a rack of such effects for this purpose. Built-in effects such as distortion, bit-crush, chorus and stereo widener can be used to enhance the sound with extra harmonics or extra simulated width.

The compressor can be used to control dynamics or add punch, and the filter can be used to isolate just the frequencies you need. Mirage also has reverb and delay effects for real space simulation. These are great for sound design too.

One of the reverb effects is a convolution reverb, this is typically used to add a real-sounding reverberation effect to the signal by using samples of real spaces (impulse responses). However, by substituting the sample of a real space with an abstract sample, interesting effects can be produced. Mirage features both realistic impulse responses and abstract ones for creative sound design.

Minimum friction from your mind to your DAW

Mirage is designed to not get in your way. It is fast to load up and is CPU efficient. It has a vector-based GUI that can be resized so that it will work on any size screen. The controls are laid out in an intuitive way, and a full description of what each control does can be viewed by hovering the mouse over it for a moment. Mirage also comes with a PDF user manual with all of the nitty-gritty details covered.

  • Windows 7 or higher, 64-bit only (the plugin has a 32-bit version but the installer requires a 64-bit machine – virtually all Windows machines are 64-bit)
  • Or MacOS 10.12 or higher, both Intel and M1 chips are supported (universal binary)
  • A DAW that can host a VST2 or AudioUnit v2 (AU) plugin. Examples of such hosts are Cubase, Ableton Live, Studio One, Reaper, Reason, FL Studio, Logic X, Garage Band, and many more. Logic 9 and Pro Tools are not supported.

Phoenix

A Cinematic Synth based on Smooth Synth Strings and Choirs

A toolkit of cinematic sounds

The core sounds of this library are six synthetic strings and choirs instruments. These sounds are useful even before processing. Ethereal choirs and lush string pads can be made instantly. However, the three-layer structure of Mirage allows you to take these sounds even further. Complimentary sounds can be layered together and modulated with LFOs and filters, and reverbs can be applied. Using these features, it is easy to create rich textures and soundscapes with movement. But this is by no means the extent of Phoenix’s capabilities.

Keys and bass sounds can also be produced. In the included presets you will find many examples of these types of sounds such as low rumbles, plucky staccatos and clean subs. Phoenix also works excellently when layered with real instruments. The smoothness of the sounds of this product gell superbly with them, enhancing their richness and width.

Uses of Phoenix

You might make use of Phoenix in a film/TV/video game score. A preset such as Shimmering Cavern could be used to create a sense of wonder and beauty. This preset uses three sound layers spread across three octaves. LFOs subtly modulate the volumes of these layers, and a touch of bit-crush distortion is used, resulting in a sound that shimmers in the high frequencies. Similarly to this, there are many other presets included in this product that have an emotional character. This track could be added to by using the Bass Pluck preset with a low pass filter applied to it. This would work excellently as a driving ‘underscore’ element.

Another possible use for Phoenix might be in an ambient track. A preset like Smoothest Pad might be used to play wide-spanning chords, gently transitioning into each other in the background. A Keys preset like Melody Drops could be used on top of this for a distant emotive sounding melody. A Bass preset such as Sub Bass Repeater could be used to fill out the low end, and give drive to the track with its pulsing pattern.

A third possibility might be in a track outside of the ambient or cinematic genres. Phoenix can be used to add character to your electronic/rock/hip hop track. It can be used as something to bring depth to the background or to layer up with your real performances. The various strings presets of Phoenix, in particular, might be useful in these situations. These synthetic strings have a smooth organic sound to them, similar to their real counterparts, but with a softer character. Phoenix might also be useful in writing a breakdown in a track – add atmosphere and a sense of open space – before bringing back the drive of your track.

Specifications

  • 80 presets, saved as separate mirage-phoenix files

  • Mirage sample-based synthesis engine included

1959

1959. HIDDEN ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC PIANO

1959 by Sampleson is based on the Electro-Acoustic Piano patent (lifetime expired) registered in 1959. We brought it to life using spectral modeling. Sound can be described as a CP80-like but a bit more tuned due to the fewer number of strings.

1959 AUDIO DEMOS

1959 can be described as RAW. Despite the reverb included, 1959 is minded to be heavily processed with anything you want. It will melt perfectly with choruses, flangers, phasers, etc. Demos were recorded with and without effects (factory free FXs included in GarageBand).

THE EXPERIENCE OF RECREATING A FORGOTTEN ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC PIANO PATENT.

Does it sound like the original one? We don’t know, because it has never been built. And we won’t build it (at the moment). But the experience of bringing to life an instrument that never existed, was super-exciting. The resulting sound of this virtual instrument is warm, clean and bright. The expressiveness of the piano action we emulated gives it a nice and wide range of timbres. From warm lows to metallic shines on higher velocities.

The original patent proposes an idea about string vibration direction that improves the pickup effectiveness.

Reed200 V2

WHAT’S NEW IN VERSION 2

Our main modeling engine was rebuilt, and now it allows us to do thing we had in mind for more than a year.
The result is a modeled instrument that is not distinguishable from a real one.

Spectral modeled Reed-EP
The first Spectral Modeled reed EP based on real samples entirely rebuilt by modeling. Offering the real sound and feel of the real instrument in just 45MB.

PRODUCT DETAILS

  • Spectral modeled full range reed EP
  • No extra purchases needed (like Kontakt, UVI, etc) or any other 3rd. party player.
  • Ready to be loaded into major DAWs (Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, BitWig, Nuendo, FLstudio, etc)
  • No layer switching (Smooth velocity curve).
  • Phaser, Reverb and Color adjusment.
  • Releases and velocity controls.
  • Win 32/64 bits and Mac VST/AU/Standalone versions included
  • Just 30MB installed.
  • No library installation required.
  • No online activation required.

SPECTRAL MODELED REED-BASED EP
Reed200 is our second spectral modeled instrument. We can say it’s all that we dreamed about. Clean and responsive timbre made out of the real model. Stacking up to 600 pure sinewaves, we achieved a perfect and accurate timbre reproducing the sound that a reed-ep generates on the line output. (Also we included a cabinet and drive emulator)

As in our Markus 88, we did most of the jobs manually. Despite the deep spectrum analysis we used to decode the timbre DNA, we focused on recreating the real feel of pushing down a key in a real model.

THE REED TIMBRE RECREATION
We discovered the Reed timbre is kind of unique. After doing our first modeled electric piano, Markus 88, we can tell electric reeds has some characteristics on the spectrum that makes it more dirty and punchy.

What we’ve learned is that the main difference between tines and reed is the perfect octaves harmonics (meaning 12 semitones up, 24, 36, 48, etc). Envelope for those partials are quite louder than in a tine-based EP and this is one of the main secrets of reed-ep timbre

You can play a bit with this characteristic with our “Color” slider on our main interface.

WHAT EXACTLY IS SPECTRAL MODELING?
Every sound in nature can be decomposed into simple sine waves. From a bird tweet to a trumpet note. Spectral modeling is the process of analyzing and creating a sound by stacking simple sine waves.

According to Julius O. Smith (Standford) Spectral modeling provides a sound representation much closer to the perception of sound by the brain because your ear and brain are in fact spectral decoders.

  • Ready to be loaded into major DAWs (Cubase, Logic Pro, GarageBand, Cakewalk, Reaper, BitWig, Nuendo, FLstudio, etc)
  • Win 32/64 bits and Mac VST/AU/Standalone versions included
  • No online activation required.

No AAX version is included. (ProTools)

OB-Xd

OB-Xd is based on the Oberheim OB-X. It attempts to recreate its sound and behavior, but as the original was very limited in some important ways a number of things were added or altered to the original design.

OB-Xd was designed to sound as good and as rich as the original. It implements micro random detuning which is a big part of that sound.

However, it was not designed as a self-contained completely independent soft-synth. It needs to be contained within a VST framework where things like transposition, automation, layering, arpeggiation, etc., are available.

While not copying originals, some of the features were taken to a better point. Continuous blendable multimode filter (HP-Notch(BP)-HP in 12 dB mode and 4-1 pole in 24 dB mode).

Also, like many synths of the OB-X’s generation, the OB-Xd has no internal effects so its sounds and textures can be greatly enhanced by the use of additional processing like chorus, reverb, delay, etc.

Full 64-bit compatibility:

  • 32 / 64-bit Audio Units and VST for Mac.
  • 32 / 64-bit VST for Windows.

macOS 10.11 or higher

Compatible with all versions of Windows.

A Four Operator FM Synthesizer Instrument

Hello Operator, Get me OPx-4! OPx-4 is a groundbreaking four operator FM synthesizer with advanced sound editing and an easy-to-understand control layout. In addition, the system has one of the most profound FM engines ever built with a 4×4 FM matrix that includes tone shaping and filtering and a 32-slot matrix for modulating your FM tones.

Deep FM Sound Design Functionality

A Groundbreaking FM Synth Engine: With its flexible wave shaping, dual-mode filter path with 23 different filter types, six envelopes with tempo-synced looping, two LFOs, and two ramps, the OPx-4 will become your go-to FM synth. It includes three insert FX and two global FX for use with 27 included AIR effect plugins, such as reverb, delay, distortion, modulation effects, and more.

Leave Your Sound Design Ph.D. at the Door. OPx-4 Makes FM Synthesis Easy: FM synthesis works by taking classic oscillator waveforms and modulating them until they sound like something brand new. If you’ve ever experimented with FM synthesis, you know it can be complicated to understand how to make great sounds. OPx-4’s simple layout and easy controls make it a breeze to experiment with FM functions without needing a deep understanding of how it works behind the scenes. An easy-to-understand control scheme makes experimenting as easy as turning knobs until it sounds great!

Four Operators, Two Filters, Thirty-Two Mod Sources, ONE Great Sound: Using four FM operators and an FM operator matrix, you can craft almost any FM sound you’ve ever heard—or even those you haven’t heard of yet! You can adjust the values of each operator using specific on-screen controls for pulse width, formant, FM filtering, and FM shaping, as well as specific ADSR and FM oscillator envelope controls.

Built-In Effects Engine to Stylize your sounds: OPx-4 includes multiple effects like EQ, amp sims, reverb, delay, and modulation. Create brilliant shimmers, dark haunting echoes, or spacey washed-out DX-style electric pianos with a cutting-edge effects engine built right into the instrument.

Unlock these sounds in Akai MPC/FORCE for FREE: Purchase this plugin and you’ll get the ability to unlock it within your Akai Professional MPC / FORCE Standalone hardware as well as using within your favorite DAW. Seamlessly move productions from standalone hardware to your DAW with the same great sounds.

RYM2612

RYM2612 Iconic FM Synthesizer

Synth of Rage

RYM2612 is a software FM synthesizer in VST, Audio Unit and AAX formats. It’s an emulation of the Yamaha YM2612 sound chip, best known for being the vibrant voice of the Sega Genesis/Megadrive videogame console.

More than a simple sound-alike, the emulation is cycle-accurate to the original chip, that allows reproducing every unique possibility of the synth.

On top of this, the amp circuitry of the console has been reproduced too, in order to obtain the same grain you’d get if you plugged the real hardware into your DAW.

Key Features

  • Cycle-accurate emulation of the YM2612 FM soundchip
  • Genuinely reproduces the unique and characteristic sound of its hardware counterpart (digital saturation, huge feedback amount, natural distortion, …)
  • Audio input for adding 8-bit PCM sweetness to any signal
  • Low CPU usage
  • Switchable output filtering and ladder effect
  • A couple of limitations from the soundchip have been taken away: up to 16 voices of polyphony, dedicated PCM channel (you can of course stick to 6 simultaneous voices if you want to experience the real thing)
  • 100+ various, sorted, evocative patches to start with

The 16-bit Legacy

Not many people were aware of this, but unlike other videogame consoles, the Sega* Genesis/Megadrive had a complete FM synth onboard. The Yamaha* YM2612 provided enough features to produce complex, evolving tones, as well as crazy sound effects and PCM samples playback. This is your chance to get your hands on this altered beast, combined with the rich control and modulation possibilities offered by your modern DAW.

*Sega and Yamaha brand names are the trademark of their respective owners. This product is in no way affiliated with these companies.

Insert Extra Patches

Meet RYMCast, the perfect companion app for RYM2612. It’s a Genesis music files player that has the special ability to let you mute/solo each channel of your favourite soundtracks and to drag & drop the sounds directly to an RYM2612 instance. Also, RYMCast is free and runs on Windows, macOS and GNU Linux.

Feel the FM vibe for your retro and modern needs, with a lively and authentic tone, taking the RYM2612 Iconic FM Synthesizer as a bonus weapon in your synth arsenal.

Use automation to create unique soundscapes, from that dubstep-characteristic wobble to voices coming in and out at random intervals, and effects fading in and out with perfect quantized precision.

Intuitive and user-friendly interface
The philosophy behind Stagecraft’s design principles is that the software should show you visually what it does. Because of that, every knob or button produces a visual change as well as a sonic one. This unique approach lets you see exactly how the sound is changing and evolving throughout the track.

Integrated Sample Marketplace
In addition to its integrated bank of free high-quality sounds, Infinity Synth gives you the ability to try out and purchase additional sample banks from Stagecraft’s large and ever-growing library. The synth automatically connects to Stagecraft’s library through wifi giving you access to an almost infinite amount of sounds without ever having to leave the synth’s interface.

Babylon

One Page Wonder

W.A Production have been wanting to create a synth like Babylon for years, after struggling with synths that overcomplicate programming with multiple windows and menus. Babylon keeps things sleek and simple with a one-page design, featuring all major parameters on a single interface page. Of course, a synth is only as good as it sounds and they’ve included hundreds of waveforms and presets to choose from. Babylon can turn its hand to any kind of instrumentation including different types of leads, basses, pads, organs, keys, FX and more. With powerful multi-voice oscillators, stereo unison & detuning, high quality filters, effects and an internal modulation matrix Babylon can stand with the big boys because it’s powerful, but perfectly formed.

Microtonal Tuning: Very unusual for a soft-synth, with Babylon you can tune every individual note to its own frequency and play quartertone and microtonal scales. These would not normally be able to be played in standard tuning and make for some extremely fun experimental harmonics.

Scale Helper: Babylon comes complete with 23 standard and 34 traditional scales and modes from the Middle East. You can choose a scale, a key and see the notes of the scale highlighted on the virtual keyboard. Microtonal tuning is also set up automatically. Using a modern synthesizer to play scales from all over the world has never been easier.

Presets: With 257 high-resolution waveforms, you’re sure to find the perfect starting point for your own sounds. Alongside many variants of the classic oscillator shapes, W.A Production have included formant, gritty, voice and instrument waveforms for maximum versatility. These can all be inverted and reversed (or both). Over 2300 preset sounds have been expertly programmed and are catalogued into themes within the onboard browser so you can easily find what you need in a hurry.

Effects: A full range of FX are included: Distortion, Bit rate and Sample Rate Reduction, Filter, Chorus, EQ, Delay and Reverb. These can be reordered by simply clicking and dragging, making for a logical approach to FX routing.

Unique Features

W.A Production could list all of the great features of Babylon, but instead, allow them to point out some aspects which they think are unique in the world of soft-synths. The filter section features not only standard controls but also 5 characterful poly effects: drive, distortion, saturation, crush and LoFi. There’s a dedicated Vibrato LFO with delay & attack settings for smooth vibrato transitions. Babylon has 12 different curve types for ADSR and Filter programming. Visual unison feedback shows the exact width and depth of your voicing and detuning choices. And did they mention the scales and microtuning? Oh yes, so they did.

W. A. Production are real-life producers making creative plugins to help you achieve studio quality processing quickly and easily. Enjoy!

Dreamsynth

Dreams Brought to Life

Cherry Audio’s Dreamsynth is a tribute to the celebrated hybrid analog+digital synthesizers of the mid-to-late 1980s. The innovative design blends flexible dual-wave morphing oscillators, stereo filters, fully polyphonic analog strings, extensive and easy-to-use modulation, studio-quality effects, and MPE support, all in an elegant vintage-style synth interface.

An Era of Innovation

Dreamsynth draws its inspiration from renowned synths including the Ensoniq ESQ-1, the Kawai “K” series, and the Sequential Prophet VS. In the second half of the ’80s, music production was rapidly transitioning from analog to digital. These “hybrid” synthesizers bridged the gap, combining the precision and flexibility of sampled digital oscillators with the warmth of analog filters. The combination of digital and analog sound produced instruments with character and a unique sonic fingerprint that still resonates today.

A Dream Come True

With the magic of these vintage classics in mind, we set out to create Dreamsynth. Dreamsynth is a “What if…?” synthesizer incorporating the distinctive qualities of this remarkable era with the best features of modern software instruments to create a uniquely 21st-century hybrid.

Dreamsynth Features

  • Three dual-waveform oscillators, amounting to six simultaneous virtual analog or PCM sample-based oscillators with up to 16 voices of polyphony
  • Authentically modeled virtual analog waveforms and 430 looping, one-shot, and single-cycle waveforms
  • Fully polyphonic 16-voice string synthesizer which can be layered and split across the keyboard independent of the primary synth
