PSP FETpressor is a FET feedback type compressor plug-in designed to provide accurate, almost instant compression with loads of character.

Great for vocals, guitars, bass, drums, and whenever a classic 1970s-style FET compressor is needed, PSP FETpressor contains everything you’d expect from a FET compressor: an internal side chain high pass filter to control amount of low frequency pumping, smoothly adjustable compression ratio, ability to select which channel to process, and a link switch.

Maximum Parallel Power

Parallel compression is a key ingredient that has been used by top mixers for years, but up until now, it has always required complex routing and increased clutter in your mix project to be able to utilize it on every track. Many compressors have a mix knob for blending the compressed signal with the dry signal, but we have found that this just doesn’t give enough control to really make use of the extensive power of parallel compression.

With individual wet and dry faders, along with an intuitive yet powerful EQ section, it won’t take long to recognize how much you’ve been missing out on. After using Manic Compressor on our projects, we realized that we have been missing out on a whole new world that we didn’t even know existed with compression.

6 Different Compressors

Even with so many good compressors out there, we find that it’s cumbersome to switch back and forth between different compressors with different settings trying to find the exact match for your track. With Manic Compressor, you can quickly switch between 6 different compressors without having to match settings.

Because Manic Compressor was designed from the ground up to be used in parallel, we were able to make some compressor modes that really shine in parallel.

Built for Abuse

With Manic Compressor’s innovative parallel design and Loudness Relief, this compressor was built to be abused.  Subtle compression is a thing of that past (unless you want it, of course). Manic Compressor lets you put your settings to maximum carnage and then ease it off with its unique Loudness Relief knob, which softens the compression artifacts even under super heavy load.

Down and dirty, this is our take on the classic compressor.

Filtering

We added a filter to the detector, so you can choose compression that reacts, for example, only to the bass hits. Advanced options, like the auto release, allow you to avoid pumping, or set the release longer and get the offbeat swells that are characteristic of so many techno tracks.

Schlap is a characterful, colourful and aggressive sounding program-dependent compressor. It takes inspiration from hardware RMS compressors of the past and evolves them into a modern setting.

The compressor uses a program-dependent attack and release influenced by old hardware making the compression sound characterful and dynamic.

The RMS detection means that Schlap detects the average loudness of a signal, resulting in sudden short peaks being uncompressed so that they can attack hard and sound heavy hitting. Also inherently in RMS detection, there is a slight delay in compression which allows the initial, early transients to sneak through uncompressed so they keep their punch.

You’ve got a safe, controlled track you think you’re happy with, but you have to ask yourself… “Does it Schlap?”

FirePresser – One to Rule Them All

Vacuum Tubes are the Holy Grail of audio processing. Why rely on tailored emulations when you can craft your own tube circuit?

Supertube is a variable-gain compressor that uses a triode as an amplifier, whose characteristics are fully customizable.

From tube geometry to electrical abilities, you can choose how your tube behave. Those features will affect tube color, distortion and clipping, compression scaling, recovery and punch.

In Supertube, your audio signal flows through a tube triode from its cathode to its plate (amplification). The same rectified signal is sent to the triode’s grid for dynamically limiting the output gain (vari-mu compression). Hence, the amplification stage generates warm tube coloration, while the optional compression stage offers an organic tube compression.

Many tube intrinsic characteristics can be modified. No electronical background is required, as the effect of every of them can be easily heard by ear.

Moreover, 13 presets are here to get you started.

• Plate voltage: Tube distortion comes from a non-linear relation between their input and their output. Increasing the tube’s plate voltage will increase the plate load and make the non-linearities steeper as well as giving earlier distortion.
• Charge capacitor: Voltage in a tube can drop completly, causing blocking distortion. A bigger charging capacitor will increase drop recovery time which will make the distortion more noticeable. This setting also increases cathode bias to make voltage drops more frequents.
• Transconductance: Transconductance will increase the gain reduction caused by the grid, hence making the compression more violent.
• Tube Geometry: Various physical characteristics of the tube change the way it warms the sound: glass geometry, gas type, grid spires… This setting allows to blend between two tube blueprints that sound the radically different.
• Output Impedance: The grid stopper impedance increases grid gain excursion time, resulting in a sharper compression.
• Grid Resistor: The grid resistor alters globally how the grid will react to the input signal, scaling its attack with its release time and increasing the compression recovery.

Standard knobs allow you to modify the digital behavior of the plugin:

• Dry Wet allows you to blend the original signal with the one at the end of the processing chain.
• In Gain and Out Gain control respectively the input and the output gain.
• Threshold allows you to kick-off the compressor by making it react below a gain threshold value.

More than a compressor, the Pawn Shop Comp also has a fully adjustable tube preamp, a two band equalizer, and swappable components that give you unprecedented control of every parameter of the plugin.

MAIN FEATURES

The Compressor: A Modern Classic

A unique hybrid tube/FET circuit lets the Pawn Shop Comp handle virtually any compression task you throw at it. Complete controls for all compressor parameters let you tailor response from smooth to punchy to total crush.

A Tube Preamp
Use the Pawn Shop Comp’s tube preamp to add saturation and the warm harmonic distortion that is the mojo of tubes. But push GAIN even further to add overdrive and distortion, and adjust the BIAS for total shred. The PSC preamp can add character to vocals, hype to guitars and bass, and incredible color to room mics and the drum bus.

Swap Tubes and Transformers
Swap between three different sets of tubes and three different transformers to adjust the response of the Pawn Shop Comp from timid to street thug. Combined with the preamp Gain and Bias, tubes and transformers let the PSC sound like a classic tube limiter from the early 60’s, to modern, high end bespoke compressors, and all shades in-between.

Essential Sonic Sweetening
The EQ can be used to compensate for the loss of lows and presence that happens at high compression settings, and also for more creativity and enhancement. The WEIGHT control can be set for extreme lows (think kick drums) or slightly higher to give a signal warmth. The FOCUS control is centered in the midrange and adjustments in this band can add presence and width to a track. With +/- 8dB of gain, and wide, gentle peaking curves, use the eq to beautifully sculpt a track or an entire mix.

Tweakable like no other
Want to change the compression curves of the PSC? Swap in different FET’s. Want to get a vintage sound? Swap in Carbon resistors.Need something bright and modern? Switth over to Metal film resistors.

Lift Your Voice

For a vocal to really cut through the mix and ride other instruments, it’s usually a good idea to make sure it’s loud and proud. However, the dynamics of a vocalist’s performance can vary wildly, from softly sung verses to strident choruses. Despite a comprehensive vocal effects chain, with careful volume-riding and compression, you’ll often need a final limiter to clamp down on fluctuating dynamics or to smooth slower phrases.

W.A Production designed Vocal Limiter to be the last step in your vocal processing chain and as simple to use as possible.

It’s specifically developed to target the frequencies of vocal performances so is less affected by overly high or low-frequency content. With multiple speed modes and real-time VU meters, you can use your eyes and ears to find the perfect settings… or just flick through the included presets. With Vocal Limiter you can be sure that your vocals will sit comfortably in the mix and be heard loud and clear.

Threshold

You’ll probably already be familiar with the normal functions of a limiter; set the threshold to clamp down on levels above a certain amplitude. How quickly a signal recovers after this is dictated by the Speed button.

4 Release Speed Modes

Use the central button at the bottom of the interface to toggle the auto-release of the limiter to 4-speed settings. Depending on the performance of your vocalist, each of these settings will give a different effect. Use a slow speed for smoother performances such as ballads and acoustic songs, and fast speed for quicker changes, perfect for vocal chops and raps. Medium speed is suitable for most other kinds of vocal but feel free to experiment and discover the best settings for your particular style. Ultra Slow speed has also been included as a bonus; useful for synth parts and other types of audio that require a more gentle, transparent release setting.

Input & Output

Adjust the Input and Output faders to balance vocals recorded at different volumes and dynamics. These parameters are also useful when used in conjunction with the click and pop-free bypass button, for accurate A/Bing in context.

Visual Feedback

The live VU meters of the interface show exactly what’s happening to your audio signal in real-time. This allows for accurate monitoring at every step of the chain.

It’s easy to adjust the parameters of Vocal Limiter and since this is such a simple plugin, finding the right settings is so fast. Mix Harder

Contemporary mixes need punch. And to achieve maximum impact, without killing a track’s dynamics, engineers turn to parallel compression (a technique that blends a dry track with a heavily compressed duplicate). IHNY-2 hosts a plug-and-play parallel configuration so you don’t have to set up any extra routing in your DAW.

The plugin is purpose-designed for slamming your tracks in parallel and will hit harder than your typical go-to compressors. It is not subtle, but a dedicated tool for adding energy and “slap” to drums, mix buses or even the master bus (if you dare!)

IHNY-2 is an evolution of our very first plugin, I Heart NY. The original was a favorite with many users and was picked for the SOS Awards by Sound On Sound Magazine. V2 ships with new features, surgical control – and improvements in sound.

FEATURES

Configuration:

IHNY-2 splits the incoming audio into two duplicates. One remains untouched by the plugin (Dry track), the other is subjected to all the goodness IHNY-2 has to offer (Wet track). You balance the two signals on the vertical axis of the XY pad, while setting the compression amount of the Wet track on the horizontal axis. This allows you to operate the most important controls of the plugin in just one motion.

IHNY-2 has an autogain algorithm working under the hood to give you a consistent output as you move the node around the XY pad – but if you find that it’s too loud or too quiet you can use the Autogain slider on the front panel to nudge the behavior.

While moving the node around the XY pad, you’ll see a value displayed under the “AGR” abbreviation (Adjusted Gain Reduction). This number takes into account the current Gain Reduction and Dry/Wet balance to give you a value for the compression intensity. For a good starting point, we recommend you aim for AGR levels between -10 and -20.

Tweak Panel:

HNY-2 is meant to be as fast and intuitive as its predecessor. But if you need to go deeper, the Tweak Panel gives you full control over the compressor. Here, you’ll find a number of new features that weren’t included in V1.

• Attack + Release:
  • Sets how fast the compressor engages and disengages.
• Ratio:
  • Sets the compression intensity from mild to aggressive.
• Punch:
  • Heavy compression tends to suck the transients out of a signal. The Punch control works to emphasize attack transients in the compressed track, helping it cut through even at very high compression levels.
• Harmonics:
  • Imagine a saturator that behaves like a compressor – that’s Harmonics. This feature introduces harmonic saturation controlled by the gain-reduction, meaning more compressed parts get saturated harder.
• Shape:
  • Adds our custom ‘smiley EQ curve’ to bring out the lows and highs and make the compressed signal more present. (The smiley EQ curve is what sets “New York Compression” apart from regular parallel compression. IHNY-2 can do both).
• Tilt:
  • Makes the compressor work harder on either the low or high end of your signal – which can be useful for controlling bass heavy material and letting the high end breathe (or vice versa).
• Lo + Hi Preserve:
  • Prevents the low and high frequencies from being compressed above/below the cutoff points. This is a great way to preserve the kick while squashing the rest of your drum bus.

OTHER FEATURES

• Oversampling:
  • Run the plugin in 1x, 2x or 4x oversampling modes. (We recommend 1x for better CPU performance).
• Solo:
  • Monitor the wet signal in solo. Useful for finetuning – or for using IHNY-2 as a regular insert compressor.
• Tooltips:
  • Turn on to get explanations of each parameter as you use the plugin.
• Save As Default:
  • Save your own default preset, which will load whenever you open a new instance of IHNY-2.
• Reset To Default:
  • Reset the plugin to your default preset.

It’s All About The Sound

IHNY-2 comes with a range of new features to surgically tweak the compression behavior. But a compressor should not be judged on its features (or ability to run in parallel) as much as it should be judged on its sound. Let’s get into that.

Just like its predecessor, IHNY-2 offers its own, unique sonic signature: Its style of compression is clinical and aggressive, combining the precision of a digital algorithm with a touch of analog-inspired non-linearity. It can even go into full-on saturation mode as you apply the ‘Harmonics’ control.

The plugin is designed especially with modern genres in mind – i.e. optimized for loudness and impact, without a loss of clarity.

However, some of our inspiration actually goes back in time as well. Particularly to the affordable DBX units of the 80s and 90s. You can call them basic, but these compressors had a brutal and hard-hitting nature that their more sophisticated counterparts just couldn’t muster. They are loved and used for that to this day!

With IHNY-2 we had an ambition to take the “slammy” and “squashy” behavior of our favorite old hardware compressors even further – and make it an intentional feature rather than a byproduct of design limitations. At the same time we wanted an algorithm that didn’t destroy the signal, even at high compression levels (unlike cheaper hardware compressors).

We’re sure you’ll find that IHNY-2 sounds like none of your other plugins. It’s not designed for “smooth” work. But when you need some power, you’ll have a hard time finding a better companion. IHNY-2 is everything I Heart NY was – and so much more!

Don’t lose the dynamics!

Amping/distortion/saturation are the classic methods for getting some warmth to just about any audio, but the problem is, these processes remove dynamics by nature. MPhatik analyses the input level envelope, processes your audio signal, analyses the level envelope of the output and applies a gain to make the output envelope the same as the input. In other words it restores the dynamics. Now you can finally phatten up any audio material without loosing dynamics, which is an inevitable result of using any classic methods, whether it is a digital distortion, analog saturation, tape…

All tools you need to phatten up anything…

MPhatik comes equipped with a powerful amp simulator, convolution reverb (featuring all kinds of impulse responses from plate reverbs to halls, rooms etc., plus your own files of course) and a compressor. If that’s not enough, you can still use the side-chain input to drive MPhatik and process the audio with your own tools.

Apply dynamics of one track onto another one?

So how about applying a level envelope of drums on a pad to get a rhythmical pad? Or avoiding collisions between drums? Make no mistake, this isn’t something you can do with classic tools such as gates or compressors, because these tools use only a single level detector. In other words, they don’t care about what audio you are processing. MPhatik does!

The plugin can display the measurements of all relevant values using classic meters, or it can even show them in time using the time graphs. Everything is customisable as usual.

4 exceptionally versatile modulators.

• MPhatik provides 4 fully-featured modulators which can control any set of parameters including other modulators. Each modulator works as an LFO, level follower, midi/audio triggered ADSR enveloper, randomizer or pitch detector, or even a combination and can listen to the plugin’s side-chain.
• You can make the sound move in time, be less static and more interesting. You can make various parameters depend on the input (or the sidechain) level or even listen to the input pitch.

Adjustable oscillator shape technology.

• Every oscillator in MPhatik uses the most versatile oscillator algorithm on the market. It provides mix of predefined oscillator shapes, custom waveforms edited using our MeldaProduction Envelope System (MES), a step-sequencer and several methods for algorithmic postprocessing.
• It also provides a harmonic mode, which lets you control the harmonic content instead of oscillator shape. This is especially useful for high frequency oscillators.

4 multiparameters.

• MPhatik lets you control multiple parameters using a single so-called multiparameter. This may not only come handy for automation for example, but the multiparameters are very smart units and you can use them to smartly morph between banks of settings for example. All in the name of creativity!

M/S, single channel, up to 8 channels surround processing…

• MPhatik can handle not only mono and stereo signals, but also mid/side encoding for stereo field processing, separate left & right channels, separate mid or side signal and up to 8 channels of surround audio. It is perfect for audio production for music, movies, games…

Smart Randomization

• Being creative is sometimes complicated and one often needs an inspiration. By clicking a single button you can walk through the billions of possible settings and find the best one for you. The smart randomization algorithm wisely selects good sounding combinations of parameters. It can even randomize modulators for you. And if that’s too much, you can just hold ctrl and MPhatik will just slightly modify existing settings.

Automatic Gain Compensation (AGC)

• Most plugins change loudness of the output audio, which makes browsing presets inconvenient, not mentioning randomization. MPhatik includes automatic gain compensation, which quickly adapts to current settings and ensures the output sounds as loud as the input. This even protects you from thinking that something sounds better in cases it is just louder.

Safety Limiter

• Some plugins can intensely increase gain when exposed to specific audio materials. MPhatik provides a safety brickwall limiter, which ensures the output stays below 0dB and prevents your equipment and your ears from potential danger automatically.

Adjustable Up-Sampling 1x-16x

• Digital audio provides very superior audio quality compared to ancient analog gear, but there are problems too. The main problem is the aliasing, which may be noticeable, when using nonlinear processes such as compression or saturation. MPhatik includes both minimum-phase and high-quality linear-phase upsampling algorithms, which avoids the aliasing.

Synchronization to Host Tempo

• Every oscillator and modulator in the plugin can automatically synchronize to the host. But it can be out-of-sync if you want of course.

MIDI Controllers with MIDI Learn

• MPhatik contains a powerful MIDI processor, which listen to MIDI controllers and MIDI keyboard and control any parameters realtime.

64-bit Processing and an Unlimited Sampling Rate

• MPhatik provides the maximum audio quality you can get. It uses 64-bit audio processing and can handle any sampling rate. It does not make much sense to go over 192kHz, but if you think it is a good idea, the plugin can do that.

MAutoAlign solves problems with phase cancellations when recording a single instrument using multiple microphones.
