Zqueezer

Zqueezer – Easy Squeezy

As producers, we’re all searching for that something special – a quick and easy way to transform sounds beyond their original forms and push them to the next level. Some of us achieve that by using complex plugin FX chains, or even by routing audio through outboard equipment. Zqueezer is a brand new way to inject a unique flavour into your synths, basslines and vocals. 

Now, this is a difficult plugin to explain – and honestly, you’re probably better skipping the science and just taking Zqueezer for a test drive to experience the twisted squelchy goodness that it has to offer. With monophonic source audio, Zqueezer can function as a kind of “adaptive filter”, squashing the sound with an emphasis on harmonics and a type of formant-shifting effect. For more complex types of polyphonic material, Zqueezer mangles the overtones, resulting in a more complex network of partial tones and intermodulations. Sounds wild, right? It is!

Overtone

This is where Zqueezer shines, with this control assigned to select and isolate the flageolet overtones of the signal. As the dial is pushed up, increasingly fierce results are heard with squeezed frequencies that rise in pitch. As this parameter is increased you’ll hear individual overtones and at extreme values, the pitch-shifting effect is similar to a band-pass filter but with far more complexity in the harmonics. Because the filter coefficients keep changing and are derived from the waveform of the sound itself, the filter constantly adapts to the audio. 

Gain

Although seemingly simple, this control boosts the “brilliance” of the signal. It corrects amplitude at the output, which is useful for higher fraction values. Think of this control as amplitude correction or normalization, as it’s very useful when balancing the source audio against the squeezed and squashed version of itself. 

Dry/Wet

For creative purposes, it’s useful to be able to mix the waveforms that Zqueezer creates with the original source audio. Use the dry/wet knob for this and conjure every kind of processing from subtle brightening to full-on mangled and harmonically distorted strangulation. 

Presets

With many included presets, it’s easy to find the perfect way to squeeze your audio. These factory options can be used on guitars, bass, drums, synths and vocals. The presets include everything from subtle transformations to full-on strangled mutations.

Our preset manager lets you A/B compare two different presets or undo the last change. TrackPlug also features preset managers per section so for example you can quickly combine an EQ preset with a compressor preset. Super handy.

Like all Wave Arts’ plugs, TrackPlug only consumes CPU for features that are enabled, so if you just need a few bands of EQ and some compression, TrackPlug has a negligible CPU load. MadMod

Control

MadMod takes modulation much further than your typical reactive filter, linking 6 different parameters to incoming audio, and each with its own custom scaling. This means you can cause the filter to fade in, skew higher, modulate more, flatten out, all at the same time and all scaled to incoming audio.

ADSR Versatility

Stagecraft has added a trigger mode which changes how the mods react to audio. Rather than tracking, in trigger mode the mods will kick in when the threshold is passed, but then go through a decay phase, and release only when the threshold is crossed again.

Display

As with all of our plugins, the displays we add are in-depth and powerful. Our design philosophy is that every knob should have a visible effect as well as audible, and that all graphs and images should be interactive.

MFilter

MFilter is a specifically altered version of our MEqualizer with four global modulators which are able to provide effects such as wah-wah, sweeps, and more, but MFilter goes much further than you could ever imagine with standard effects.

Applying stereo effects to enliven or enrich a sound can work wonders in the mid and high frequencies, but often muddies up the bottom end. Using Monofilter Elements you can add stereo effects and still retain a solid centre in the bass frequencies, by reducing the width below the point at which stereo nature of the effect has ceased to make significant impact.

During Live Recording and Performance.

When working with live material, giving attention to taming the unpredictable and treating the PA with respect can bring real benefits. Using Monofilter Elements to ensure that the subs (and even the bass frequencies in general) are centred in the mix can help share the load between over worked amplifiers and speakers as well as providing a sharper level of clarity in the bottom end. Distiller – a distortion filter from Diginoiz! Since gain of some early guitar amp was cranked up for the first time, distortion became an acknowledged tool for enhancing sound. And when a filter was added to an early subtractive synth, filtering became an indispensable way of carving timbre.

Moogerfooger MF-107S Freqbox

THE MF-107S FREQBOX IS A REINVENTION OF MOOG MUSIC’S CLASSIC MF-107 ANALOG EFFECTS PEDAL   The MF-1057 FreqBox, originally introduced in 2007, contained several complete modular synth functions: a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) with variable waveshape capable of being hard synced and frequency modulated by the audio input, and an envelope follower which allowed the dynamics of the input signal to modulate the frequency of the VCO. In addition, the amplitude of the VCO was controlled by the dynamics of the input signal, and the VCO could be mixed with the audio input. MR Hum 6

Combining hum removal, buzz removal, brickwall filtering, and spectrum analysis into one easy to use plug-in, MR Hum is the perfect tool to clean up recordings with any sort of hum or nasty buzz.

The hum removal section works by applying a set of notch filters spaced at multiples of the fundamental hum frequency, usually 60 Hz or 50 Hz.

You select the fundamental frequency, the number of harmonics you want to eliminate (up to 10), and the width of the notches (the default works fine). There are presets for the usual cases of 60 Hz hum and 50 Hz hum. You can also select any fundamental frequency continuously from 20 to 200 Hz. Sometimes it’s necessary to use a slightly different frequency in cases where the hum has been recorded on analog tape and played back on a different machine, which will cause the hum frequency to change.

The high resolution spectrum display makes it easy to see the hum frequency and the number of harmonics that are required. The spectrum display can run before processing, to see the input signal spectrum, or after processing, to see the output signal spectrum. The monitor feature allows you to hear the signal being removed, offering another way to set the parameters.

MR Hum contains a separate processor for buzz. Buzz is a periodic signal with frequency harmonics through the entire audible spectrum, which would require hundreds of notch filters to eliminate. The buzz algorithm uses a different approach which is far more efficient. Often buzz is a nasty case of hum, and hence is at 50 or 60 Hz, but sometime buzz is caused by a motor or some other kind of interference, hence the buzz processor allows any frequency from 20 to 200 Hz.

Finally MR Hum also provides brickwall filters to eliminate low or high frequency interference.

Rumble

Kick sustains became a techno standard and are tedious to create: sidechained reverb, low-end imaging, compression, eq, distortion… Rumble crafts them faster and better.

Rumble detects spurious frequencies in the low-end and chains several notch filters with specially crafted reverbs to treat them differently. These feedback reverbs can create rumbles ranging from very short to infinite.

The output is equalized, distorted and filtered again using a very steep band-pass filter.

All of those elements are customizable and allow to blend between a very rough and a very smooth rumble.

A broad range of controls are here to help you tailor the sound you need.

  • Dry Gain is the output volume of the original, untouched kick.
  • Wet Gain is the output volume of the rumble. You can choose either to blend the kick and the sustain directly in Rumble or to output only the sustain in order to post-process it, for instance with sidechain.
  • Rumble controls the length of the rumble sustain.
  • Filter controls the amount of output band-pass filtering. A higher setting will result in a cleaner rumble while a lower setting will produce a gritty rumble.
  • Drive controls the amount of distortion in the last processing stage. This distortion is only applied to the wet band-filtered signal, hence this knob will only be effective if the FILTER knob is not set to zero.
